Getting into this universe super late after replacing the drive on my parent's Wii.

Spent most of Christmas break trying to debug black screen loading issues on USB Loader GX, but finally realized that after taking good dumps with CleanRip (hashes come out okay), using Wii Backup Loader (build 78) makes the WBFS without an error, but the game either doesn't load at all or hangs within a few seconds of starting. Also just converting to an ISO using the individual part files (using `wbl`) doesn't work, and the hash doesn't match compared to if I combine the part files manually.

I finally tried Dolphin and realized the same issue occurs with the WBFS file but doesn't occur if I manually join the ISO and run it from the dump.

Last night I tried looking at Wiims ISO Tools and appreciate the verify command and realized it makes a usable WBFS, but it's so much more convenient to use Wii Backup Loader.

The handful of WBFS files I've checked with `wit` that `wbl` has converted from good ISOs have all shown checksum errors in the H0 table.

Is there a secret version of Wii Backup Loader or am I alone with these problems? Perhaps a mystery setting in the app?

Thanks!

External hard drive, but I've tried an SD card too. FAT32 usually, but I've tried all three. Though none of that seems to matter because if I convert to a wbfs file on my computer and just try to run the game with Dolphin, it fails, and then checking it with `wit` I see checksum errors.

Is there perhaps a setting I'm missing?

Hello,

Your game is corrupt (bad).

Redo your dump ==> (original copy of the game)

That's what I'm saying: my dump appears to be good as CleanRip reports no issues with the when it verifies the dump. Additionally, I can play the original disc just fine and I can play the dumped ISO just fine, and the checksum matches.

I've dumped and redumped multiple times to multiple drives and enclosures (self powered and wall powered), and to SD cards as well. Tried a FAT32 partition, NTFS partition, and WBFS partition.

It's just when I convert it to a WBFS using `wbl` that I have problems and checksums start to fail.

Hello.:)

It has maybe to do with some of these Components.:(

- USB Device
- USB Cable
- PC/Windows

Are you really sure you use the latest Version of the Backup Manager ?

I've tried different USB devices and different USB cables. I'll try a different computer and see what that does, but what's the most confusing is that `wit` appears to be working without issues.

The version of Wii Backup Manager I'm using is the same as your screenshot.

The disc dumper from USB Loader GX is pretty flawed and can freeze your system very often, keep using CleanRip to avoid issues.

I've been using Wii Backup Manager 0.4.5 build 78 for years (the Win32 version) without any issue, so I don't get where the problem could be. Do you transfer the ripped ISO to your computer's hard drive, or you try to convert it on the USB device you ripped the game with? I always transfer them to my PC just in case.

I don't think I've ever changed any setting...

Maybe I'll try the Win32 version instead of the Win64 version...

I feel like I've tried all the combinations. I've brought the file to my local drive from the USB and converted it there, and I've tried USB drive to USB drive. I feel like I've even tried just making the WBFS file and copying it. Getting super close to just using the raw ISOs, but I'm also not entirely sure how to do that...

As an update to this, no difference using the Win32 version.

However, converting to wbfs files using `wit` and then transferring them to a FAT32 drive appears to be working for me, so at least I have a solution for now! There are a few games that aren't working, but I'm guessing that might be a different issue.

Hopefully, if someone else has the same problem in the future this will give them an option to try!

Hello.:)

I am sorry that we have no Solution for you at the Moment...:(

May I ask you some Things else please ?

- Which Windows did you use with the WiiBackup Manager ?
- Did you run the WiiBackupManager_Win32.exe/WiiBackupManager_Win64.exe as Administrator ?

Thank you.:)

Thanks for reaching out!

- Win10 1809
- Yes, ran as Admin

What I see when things aren't working are:

- Loading games on the Wii via USB Loader GX just give me a black screen
- Loading games on Dolphin (latest beta or stable) also fail with a black screen
- using `wit verify` reports !H0-ERR on the DATA partition of all the WBFS files that were converted with WII Backup Manager

I really hope,I do not overlooked it,your USB Device is a HDD,correct ?

Formatted with FAT32 with ONE SINGLE Partition ?

And recognized as MBR Drive and not as GPT ?

Correct, I've used Wii Backup Manager to format the drive as a single FAT32 partition on GPT, but also tried NTFS and WBFS partitions. HDD, both USB powered and external powered. I've also tried an SSD. HDDs were thoroughly checked with Western Digital's diagnostic tool to confirm no issues with the drives.

You could try using Wiims ISO tools if you're not afraid of using the command line. https://wit.wiimm.de/

Please try to use MBR.:)
