Grand Theft Auto IV has been delisted from Steam

A game from Rockstar's biggest franchise has just been suddenly delisted from Steam, with no explanation or reasoning. Grand Theft Auto IV has been removed without warning from Steam, leaving fans guessing as to what happened to the game. The most likely cause for this is due to music licenses, which were an issue for GTAIV in 2018, where a patch went out to remove songs from the game, however, it would be questionable that instead of issuing an update again, that Rockstar would just remove the game entirely from sale. Another outlying cause could be linked to Games for Windows Live, but even then, most titles that still use GFWL are still sold, such as Fallout 3, or Lost Planet 2. If you're one of the many people who already owned Grand Theft Auto IV, you'll still be able to download and play it, but if you don't own it, there's no way to get your hands on it through the Steam storefront at this time.

I really, really hope it was delisted just to push an updated version of the game without the need for Windows Live. Iirc the game is unplayable without a patch that removes windows live from the game, because you need to log in to save the game. Problem is, you can't login, because the service is dead.
Rockstars support for its legacy games is quite frankly shit. Just TRY to play any of the old GTA's without patches on a modern machine. Also instead of updating their game, they just remove music from it. I'm never buying a rockstar game ever again.

It is starting to get tedious to have to type out the "they said downloadable games would be available at any time, anywhere, for years after other sources dry up" every time this happens.
They still are if you own GTA4 already and if you activate the game through a steam key, you can still get it.

Are there issues playing ports of GTA III, Vice City, or San Andreas on PS4, Xbox One, Android, or Apple? I mean, I guess the controls on mobile suck but that's almost always an issue.

I know for a fact that the San Andreas port they made for mobile (which was then ported to consoles) is completely broken. Some essential missions are broken due to glitches, which is why you basically can't complete the game. There's actually a good video about it.

I don't know about the other ports. From my memory, the vice city and III versions on Android ran fine. Best way to play the original GTA's is with a modified, downgraded steam version (or a pirated version ;)) with mods that enable widescreen support. Or through a PS2 emulator if your computer is good enough.

Worth noting for those who haven't picked it up yet and now suddenly regret not doing so, that you'll most likely be able to find it on key sites like G2A for the foreseeable future, so you still have options. Even if the legitimacy of the keys on G2A is questionable I've never had any issues with them and often buy games there if it's something I want to try out, but not enough to pay what Steam is asking.
