Personally i think the scene is dead. Nothing happens for a long time then what does is scratching the surface. Until a fully loadable CFW comes out then i wouldn't bother with games from yesteryear. You're basically cutting off your nose to spite your face. I kept mine on 5.05 for months. never played on it. soon as i updated i play on it daily.
PS scene is dead, even when the PS5 comes out it will be all about the PS5 and the PS4 will get put on the back burners because they keep updating the system firmware for many years after

I am not convinced a persistent CFW will ever be possible on PS4, but if you only want to play current games then don't wait & maybe one day you'll be able to hack your console.
At some point I'd like to play around trying to get PSVR/move homebrew working but it's unlikely going to be soon. Maybe by the time I can then I'll have lost interest, but I really don't care much about modern games so I'm not really losing anything.
I’m tempted to go all in on MOVE-BREW / AIM-BREW, though Dreams is out in less than 2 months and should contain PSVR sandbox tools.
I get ya, the scene moved quick at first then it just hit a stand still. Now its been dead for years with the exception of minor tweeks, the system is locked down good because of the way the PS3 went with CFW and modding they made sure this wasn't going to be easy lol.
By the time its opened the console will prob be gathering dust and even cash generators wont accept them lol

I've thought about using them hooked up to a PC, but actually I find that pretty boring. There is something irrational about consoles.
I'm more likely to write something for 80's consoles than a PC.
I think they still have 360 and ps3 at my local one, so I'm hoping that it happens before they stop selling ps4.
it really feels dead due to 5.05 being a hard fw to find, and also the lack of homebrew tools. i bet whenever the exploit release and more homebrew tools are available, i think the scene will be alive again, just like the vita.
There are loads on ebay in my country. Slims aren't expensive, Pro's are quite a bit more rare.
I'm surprised there isn't more homebrew built with official tools.
It is kinda insane that we're stuck with a two year old firmware, which was exploited 18 months ago.

I wouldn't update. just sell the system, and buy a new one. you'll probably get more for it. also, remember: this can't be undone, so I hope you don't regret it later. a lot of people updated when we were stuck on 3.55 with the ps3, and some updated within weeks or even days of when the system was compromised.

I bought a PS4 5.05 and I sold it within the same week because I wasnt aware that you couldnt play newer games. The scene seem dead to me and I already have a legit PS4 with all the major games. I mean if people wanna wait on old firmware more power to you but to miss out on newer games isn't worth it. Sony said they still going to support PS4 when PS5 comes out.
Switch hacking scene I can say is one of the most best and impressive scenes since you have the option to use dualboot and play between OFW and CFW
I have PS4 , Xbox One , Gaming Latop , and Switch so I know exactly what I'm talking about. 70% of the newer games get released on PC so I have access Xbox Gamepass Exclusives are free on gamepads.
I had PSP/PS2/PS3/Ps vita/PS4 and honestly my PS4 been collecting dust for 5 months I mainly play my xbox and gaming PC. The switch is there lol but I mainly play my Xbox I always tell people just skip the PS4 5.05 and just get a gaming laptop or Gamepass
PS4 scene been dead for a while now I asked in 2018 on another forum for progress and we are in 2020 just waiting if people wanna wait I'm assuming they only have the 1 console but the majority either moved on. I dont think there is a hack passed 5.05

Heh, back porting method. Technically any game that we can obtain a dump of or dump (or get debug build leak of) could be back ported to 5.05... once we get the tools.
Everything relies on leaks. Keep em peeled.

I still have my old school Ps3 4.46 rebug I think and it can play games above higher firmware and I remember PSP could do the same thing back in the day (2009) so when I bought the PS4 on Ebay I thought I could do the same thing but I couldn't I ended up selling it and buying the Laptop, Xbox, and the switch. If it had worked 9/10 I wouldn't have bought the 3 additional units.

I only just installed it. it works, which is all I care about. I may not play it. I'm at the final stage in final fantasy vii on the switch, so I'm hesitant that the remake will disappoint me. remember when ted turner tried to add color to black and white movies, then no body liked it. that's how I feel especially after square enix really f'd up final fantasy xiii.
