Hey @mattytrog, I'm really digging the red splash screen to differentiate the type of booting. A few minor things:
  • The text on the info screen has a red background while the rest of that screen has a black background. The info is still readable, though it's a bit harder to see. I'm guessing that's a byproduct of the splash screen implementation. At your leisure, any way to get that back to black?
  • I think this was previously mentioned, but if you go into the + menu and back to the main screen everything but the battery and SD card icons is missing.
  • Super duper minor, but you mentioned you would fill the framebuffer with FF0000, but the Nintendo Switch red color is E60012. Any possibility of using the Switch red here?
As always thank you for the work you put into this stuff for us!
Excellent feedback sir!

I'm genuinely grateful. Thought I'd ironed out all red artefacts :( yep easily sorted.

Noted about the switch red colour.

The only thing that disappears is the "buttons" legend. It is a single asset.

My logic was people only need to see it the once. O they than that, keep it a stock look.

Should I keep it showing all the time? I can do.

I'm really enjoying doing this. A few tinnies and notepad++ is a good evening for a middle aged idiot!

I just need to know what to improve. But that few people use this, or a chip, it's hard getting feedback!

I think your work is amazing and I am sincerely VERY grateful - perhaps you'd consider adding that vol + option as standard for everybody to have the option to boot a 2nd payload - it's brilliant mate !!

I could do. But what about if people run bootloader/update.bin?

I thought about putting it on VOL-. But then it starts getting complicated.

If people hold down VOL+ or VOL- for too long, autoboot is overridden and it goes to SXOS / Hekate / Nyx menu.

I don`t know. I don`t really use the bloody things!

Would VOL+ for payload1(or payloadx) work for everybody?
Would VOL- for bootloader/update.bin work for everybody?

I just worry that it will get too confusing for people thats all. Will definitely put it in a special though. Got a bugfix to do on that special. Red background text is coming up red. Bloody artefact. Thought id shotgunned all those...

Just my 2 penneth worth for what it's worth

Having read what you've just written and bearing in mind the whole idea of this version of the suite is to keep things as straight forward as possible I just wanted to say that adding options on vol + and vol - is not really that complicated - if you think about it it's not any more complicated than 3ds Luma users who hold down Start to enter godmode9 or other button combinations. Luma is a CFW for people of all levels including complete noobs

Perhaps put it to a poll and see what people want ?

Could put it to a poll, but probably only me and would vote in it Pete.

Never used Godmode9. I think I installed it on someones DS. Or was it 3DS? Forgive my ignorance. But I don`t remember.

Having the buttons legend persist would be nice. I thought it locked up or I did something wrong the first time I didn't see it. Would also be good for the people who hardly ever use this boot menu since they might forget what buttons do what from the main screen.

FWIW regarding payloads, I'm indifferent on that topic since I just use Hekate as my payload.bin and chainload whatever I want from there.

EDIT: I forgot to mention Hekate already uses Vol - to enter the menu, so as long as this doesn't interfere I could go either way.

Thats what I assumed people would do.

OK what I`ve done for v5.1 (it will be "finished". at least one fookin day) is:

Fix text BG asset showing red bug
Changed the button legend graphic(for controls) to persist across main screen
Change red bootlogo asset to E60012, Stock Switch red colour.

Manual override option added...
PWR + VOL- boots bootloader/update.bin(mirrors Hekate VOL- to enter menu, so should be seamless)
PWR + VOL+ boots payload1.bin (or payloadx.bin), for SXOS users maybe? Also seamless...

Nothing else changed. Everything still autoboots etc... Just a usability improvement.

@mattytrog
As I am not sure what I am typing explains what I mean, I've done a picture haha.

I use Komos (as I rarely use the switch anymore so its easy for lazy people who forget) so pressing Vol - boots into Hekate.

@mattytrog weirdly, I cannot get the chip to go back to dual boot after installing V5.
Holding down vol + until first flash in both RCM, emuMMC and your info page doesn't change it from chip based.

Maybe a bug?

Hmmm... Working here.

emmc based autoRCM isnt enabled is it?

I don't have autoRCM enabled, have you flashed the red version of V5 to your trinket? I cannot get it to switch to dual boot, only chip based RCM. Tried setting from emuMMC, RCM and OFW (via hekate) but still doesn't change from chip based.

unrelated: Can you do 2 variants of your V5.1? With boot logo and without, I know it only adds a second but give people the option to have without :)
Might also be worth changing the text from "Browse" to "Tools" as you have all your payload management setup there along with restore eMMC

See my quick video here:

You held it down too long. See it turn green at the last second?
It turned green because that is the next colour in the sequence.

Let go during the flash...

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Phew... Right...

V5_030120...

Changelog...

So much for not many updates!

override enabled for VOL- / VOL+ (update.bin on VOL-, payloadx on VOL+)
Background text fixed in info
Red changed to original Switch red.
Sped up boot for animation users
Bugfixes...

OK... I changed the timings slightly. Forgot to put in OP.

Anyway, you know how you changed from dual boot to autoRCM or visa-versa?

Well... Keep holding. Other rapid blinks follow. Let go on the one you want.

1) Hold down VOL+. Nothing willappear to be happening chip-side... Keep holding...

2) LED will light... Keep holding...

3) LED will rapid blink (this is dualboot / autoRCM switch)... Keep holding

4) After a few more seconds another blink(this is for payload1.bin, payload2.bin selection)...Keep holding

5. Next, you will see yet ANOTHER blink, just like in step 4... only this time, we need to let go DURING the blink.

OK...You have let go...

You will see small blinks counted out...
1

then 2 blinks

then 3 blinks etc...

Blink 1 is Black, non-animated
Blink 2 is Black animated
Blink 3 is Red non-animated
Blink 4 is Red animated.

Hit VOL+ on your chosen "blink".

Done.
