Oh. Sorry! This is not the one I expected. I don't know all of the R4 clones out there. R4i Gold 3DS Plus looks different. You are not supposed to open this one (no switch inside). It could still be compatible with ntrboot but is not preflashed like the cart I meant. It would require manual flashing (all on the guide).

I recommend trying Soundhax first though.

Again: I'm really sorry. There are too many different R4s.
Soundhax worked, thanks
Now got games installed and running, son is happy :D

I just got a 2ds today ver. 11.2.0-35u what are my best options for installing a bunch of games on the sd card?

Try the Soundhax path of the guide first.
https://3ds.hacks.guide/

If Soundhax fails for unknown reason (there had been some issues in the last few months) the alternative is updating to the latest firmware followed by Seedminer.

Please upgrade to B9S. [The guide: A9LH→B9S – or – French version followed by finalizing setup]. The guide will instruct you to update the official firmware anyway. Installed games and saves will not be affected.

This does not sound good. Popping sound when turning off usually means a hardware component is not found or does not respond properly (mostly ribbon cable issues). Hardware troubleshooting the N2DSXL is harder than the other models. Things to try:
  • Turning on while shell is not fully opened (only to the first click or even less).
    • Don't try booting a 100 times when hardware issue could be the reason. The immediate ("violent") shutoff is not good for the motherboard.
  • Check if all ribbon cables are seated properly (or if any cables and/or connectors show obvious damage).
    • Refer to the ifixit guides.
    • N2DSXL requires a triwing/tripoint screwdriver to open and the shell is "clicked" together.
    • When separating the two halves pay attention to the cables that are still connected to the motherboard.
Such problems can occur after accidentally dropping the console or spontaneously (wear and tear). In my collection is an example for the latter case. A lot of usage has damaged one of the ribbons going to the upper screen assembly over the years. The O3DSXL will not turn on when fully opened (and make popping sound) or will turn the upper screen backlight to the maximum regardless of the settings.
A few days before the real problem "cannot turn on" occurred I had a lot of random crashes (ErrDisp) while playing.

Comment: Replacing the upper screen on the N2DSXL is hard (they used a lot of glue).

It didn't work, maybe it could be my 2ds version with the cfw?

Anyone knows if i can dump a save from a 3DS cartridge game with CFW ? Maybe with godemod ?
Yes you can do it with FBI.

1. Open FBI
2. Go to "Titles"
3. Choose the 3DS game (The Game on the Cardridge is always the first one which shows up)
4. Click on the game
5. Go to "Browse save data"
6. Click on "Current directory"
7. Click on "Copy all contents"
8. Now go back to the main menu
9. Go to "SD"
10. Choose a directory (I recommend to create a new directory)
11. Select "Current directory" and then "Paste"

Now you have all save data on your SD Card!
But you can also use "Checkpoint", a tool where you can get all save files very easily! It creates a new folder in /3ds/Checkpoint/saves/. You can find all saves there. :)

Trying to backup gateway gamesaves so I can update 3ds using the 3ds.hacks.guide (via boot9strap (MSET)) and still be able to use saves. I could not find an official FBI thread so i am posting issue here. My goal was to use FBI and JKSM to backup saves.

I am having no luck getting FBI.3ds to load on my 3ds. Here is what happens:

I go to the gateway games menu on top screen, and the FBI.3ds shows up as a blank icon (and no name) along with the other games. When I press a the blank game icon in the gateway top screen, a loading bar shows below the game list and then goes back to previous screen of the icons going around in a circle. And then i have to select the select the lower screen icon to get gateway game list back on top screen. It never loads the file like it does games.

Here is what i know of the 3DS and the current gateway.

System settings 4.2.0-9U
Gateway Omega 2.6

One other question, without the red gateway card in 3ds there is a menu option to backup saves. Would that be useful or not applicable to the upgrade i am wanting to do?

Any help or point to the right direction is appreciated.

Have a question I have two of the same games and I wanted to switch to the other (it's a re balance) I know that installed two of the same game will delete the save file but does it happen also to VC injects?

Hello GBATemp, I have an ambassador 3DS which I homebrew'd with NinjHax and Pasta CFW back when they first came out, messed around with them a little bit, and then I didn't touch my 3DS for like 4 years. Now I'm getting back into 3DS but I discovered none of my eShop games worked anymore so I decided to give up on NinjHax (which I assume is totally deprecated at this point) and updated to current official firmware so that I could redownload my games from the eShop, This fixed them all, except for my GBA ambassador games which still won't boot. I vaguely remember when installing Pasta CFW that it overwrote some system file which allows the 3DS to boot in GBA mode, which caused the official ambassador games to break, and I guess updating back to official firmware didn't restore this file. Is it possible for me to restore my 3DS's ability to play the ambassador GBA games or am I SoL?

OK back for more schooling
I've just bought another 3DS, this time. it's a 3DS XL pikachu edition
I did the soundhax method on this one too.
I've set it all up exactly the same as my son's last week.
He's got a lot of games installed through CIA.
I took his SD card out and put it in the XL and it doesn't even display any games or even the FBI installer
Put it back n his and it's fine
Am I missing something ?

You cannot swap SD cards between 3DS devices. When you install a game using a CIA file, for example, it will only work on that device.

oh no what about his saves ? Can I reinstall all the games and then transfer the saves ?
I don't know what your goal is. You're going to need to be more specific if you want my help.

If you want to use a new SD card, you must clear it and copy the files/folders from the old SD card to the new SD card.

Ok
Bought my son a regular 3DS last week and used soundhax.
Installed a few games on it and he's played them and has save files.
Today bought a 3DSXL and again used soundhax
I don't mind installing all the CIAs again on the XLs SD card but how do I transfer his save files from his 3DS to the new XL ?
