I'm that type of gamers who don't really play DLC, as they are more of extra levels using the previous game resources. They kinda make u excited especially when you finish the game and you want to play it longer, yet when u play those DLC especially after finishing the game you don't feel as much fun as playing the main game. Anyone else feel the same?

I don't normally play any dlc as you often forget about it when it's released few months or more later - though dlc you hav to play is bioshock 2 minerva's den and bioshock Infinite dlc burial at sea episodes

I quite like DLC, and have done ever since it was called expansion packs.

The best stuff is usually made after the fact, when the devs have stopped having to iron out issues, that probably know the game inside and out*, that can have a bit of fun with the game's lore, might be able to expand the base game mechanics/weapons/items/quests beyond what was "just get it working" when originally shipping, in the case of more free form games can have a nice linear story told with it or go the other way and a massive new area.

*if design your first level last is a generally good policy in game design then imagine what goes when they know it better still.

Much like anything there is an awful lot of horse armour shit involved, with the base game meaning fairly little in it all, and it has trained me to wait either for the next gen remaster, ultimate PC version or the eventual gold/game of the year edition but that is less my problem and more the devs/publisher.

I can't recall a DLC that was free. Maybe you could enlighten me?

All of Shovel Knight's DLCs have been free, and they've introduced three more campaigns with unique characters and mechanics, and at least one more game mode along the way.

Cool! I never played Shovel Knight but I've heard great things. Not sure why I haven't pulled the trigger, I love me some 16 bit sidescrolling action games.

As i said:

DLC with no EXTRA Costs - I like it.
DLC with EXTRA Costs - No,thank you.

Bruh, that literally didn't help me :glare:

Depends. Some DLCS are worth to playing for and some aren't and waste my time like Luigi's Mansion 3 multiplayer DLC online because it is useless. Yeah, it depends.

DLCs are cool when done properly - quite often, it's more of the game that I already like a lot, so I don't mind paying a few bucks to squeeze several more hours out of the game. Besides, some DLCs are so amazing that they become a crucial part of experience with the game (case in point, Artorias of the Abyss).

It really boggles down on how much you like the game. I put in over 60hours of gameplay towards Xenoblade 2 and I have to admit some of the DLC only added more grind time, but I love the game so much I didn't mind it. If you have neutral feelings for a game or just want to play the story 1 time then a DLC is not necessary to have.

Depends on the kind of DLC, but for the most part I can't stand them, especially if it's paid DLCs that have content that should be in the game already but instead got cut out just for extra money... I'm against all the BS ones like character DLCs, but as for playable ones like more missions/levels in a game and whatnot, it depends honestly. If they actually have a decent story that complements the base game, then I'm fine with them, but if it's just shitty additional levels with boring standard objectives (eg: more maps with just "take out enemy bases") then not only do I never play them, I actually dislike the game as a whole if it has them, ESPECIALLY if paid! For example, I really like Jimmy's storyline in Mafia II or Flying Fortress in Two Worlds II because they add a LOT of story and gameplay to an already great base game. On the other hand, "popular" games' season passes and all that BS is a complete turn off to the point I skip all games that have them, even if the base might be good.

I have played good games with bad DLC (both generally, that serves to break the base game and that served to undo the story in some way), bad games that got good DLC (usually games with decent engines but rushed production) and bad (or at least mediocre) games that got good by virtue of DLC (or expansion packs as the case may be -- back when if a game did get a gold edition with all the expansion packs, some enhancements and bugfixes it often elevated it into a classic). This on top of the good games that get even better with good DLC.
Wind in some fan made game mods, or indeed fan made expansions, to that mix and things change even more.

I feel that DLC is a poor excuse to get more money after the main games has become un-popular.

I still remember when you had to unlock characters, levels and other stuff within the game.

Take for instance:
Smash Brothers Melee and Smash Bros 4...

Was it really that necessary to take out ROY? And later introduce the character once again as a DLC?
No! Absolutely not!
As a Roy main (Roy's my boy! Roy's my boy) I felt that using Ike in Brawl as a replacement was a terrible choice, and taking it out of Smash 4 was the worst thing (until I downloaded the DLC and installed it ilegally that is)
Nowadays, Sakurai can't stop adding fricking Fire Emblem characters! They're fucking clones of Roy and Marth!

DLC is a trend that has to end anytime in the future!

It really depends on the DLC. It's really quite rare i will go out of my way to buy DLC at full price and to be quite honest a lot of publishers are using paid DLC to give us stuff that should have been in the main game.

DLC done right would for me Enter the Gungeon by Dodge Roll hit the nail on the head. Over the course of 3 years they did 3 massive updates - For free - supply drop update, advanced gungeon and dragons and a farewell to arms - and this really did add a lot of content to the game over the 3 expansions.

It really comes down to how much I enjoyed the base game tho. I think there are a lot of companies out there now, were once they would have given us some free costumes for playing a previous game, now they are too happy to charge us 7.99 for the pleasure ( I'm looking at you bandai namco!)

Totally, I would have definitely paid metal gear solid DLCs and enjoyed them (my favorite game of all time)

I agree, I guess sometimes it depends on how much efforts did the developer put into those DLCs...the more the better

Maybe English isn't your first language and you misunderstood me.

You said

Which means there are DLC that are free.
And I said

Which means I'm asking what games have free DLC.
So reposing doesn't answer my question. Furthermore I don't need help deciding which DLC to get, or which to like. That's not what I asked.

Maybe you'd be less hostile if I started a new thread where I ask you which games have free DLC.
