Tempmas 2019: Event #1 - Gaming Quiz!

Event 1.png

The time has come at long last, the Tempmas Season begins today! Father Tempmas has many gifts for Tempers young and old, provided they're willing to answer his riddles and complete his competitions! We're starting off with a good warm-up - a gaming quiz to test your gaming knowledge! See? All that trivia you've memorised over the years finally comes in handy! Today's prizes include digital credit or Amazon gift cards ($10, $15 and $25) for three randomly-drawn lucky Tempers who submit the correct answers by December 15th 9PM GMT!

Listen now, and listen well! Participating in subsequent events will award you points, and points are pretty important - the more points you collect throughout the season the higher your likelyhood of winning the grand finale - a raffle with awesome prizes, including a game of your choice, digital credit for your console of preference and a brand-spanking new Nintendo Switch Lite! Answering all of today's quiz questions correctly nets the participants 1 point towards their tally! Patreon members are automatically entered into the final draw with 1 point and we encourage everyone to participate in all events to increase their chances! If you happen to win an event, fret not! You're not disqualified from the grand finale - every participant can win one small prize and still take part in the final draw!

Now, without further ado, time for our questions!

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog is a well-known mascot of SEGA, but that's not how he was originally called - what was Sonic's original name?

  3. A "heart" is universally understood as an item that restores a character's health, but there's one particular spooky game which uses hearts as ammunition for special weapons - what game is it?

I knew like 3 answers, the rest requires a Google search, but that's cheating.
It's not cheating its just a bit of fun and you gain some knowledge of video game history - it's hardly an exam or trying to achieve an Olympic medal - and sure some will hav difficulty in finding all the answers

Do we need to get them all correct?
---
I couldn't figure out #3 even googling
That's correct - let me clarify the rules a little.

The winners will be drawn from the pool of users who answered *all* of the questions. Everyone who succeeds in this task is also awarded 1 point towards the final draw. Since you can win one small prize and still play in the final event for a chance to win the big one, winners can either choose to accept the prize *or* press their luck and "pass the buck", in which case we will draw the next random winner - this way they can still win a different small prize later down the line. It's a risky gamble, but it's more fun this way as well. :P

#2 I didn't know I knew, #4 I knew at one point and then forgot, #5 was the only one I actually knew immediately, #7 I read about it and forgot (I haven't played the game yet), and finally #8 I do not know if this was a secret CODEC call or it just happened routinely, so I either knew and forgot or never knew. I Googled all of them!!

So if I figure the answer out, can I send a correction to the Elf?

I'm afraid that once you've submitted your answers once, that's that - you can't correct yourself after the fact. Don't worry though - if you got it wrong, be sure to participate in the next event, there will be several in the next few days, plenty of chances to fill up your stockings. :P

Those questions are easy: here are my answers! :D

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog is a well-known mascot of SEGA, but that's not how he was originally called - what was Sonic's original name?
Blue-skinned hedgehog banging chick with big boobs
  2. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is a beloved RPG by Bethesda Softworks, its claim to fame is an expansive map. How large is it, in km²?
Hah! It's a trick question: skyrim doesn't do kilometers, let alone square kilometers. In skyrim, the main length measurement is "acre" which amounts to the size a regular-sized dragon can devour in a single fire-breath. Seven acres amounts to a chart. There are nine charts in a range, and each 20 ranges form a scope. Skyrimmians have been floated the idea of switching to a metric system, but it was deemed to complex to understand. As such, the size of skyrim is about 582.12 to 1120.51 square scope.
  3. A "heart" is universally understood as an item that restores a character's health, but there's one particular spooky game which uses hearts as ammunition for special weapons - what game is it?
    Hellblade's return to painkiller: vendetta.
  4. New Super Mario Bros. 2 is all about collecting coins, and there's a lot of them! What happens when you collect 9,999,999 coins?
You become aware of how much time you've wasted on playing video games
  5. Tingle is a flamboyant recurring character from The Legend of Zelda series, he quickly became a fan favourite and even received his own spin-off games - how old is he?
In our time, he's as old as the release date of the first Zelda. Known to no one but Miyamoto (and myself, obviously), but it's actually Tingle who gives you the sword in that first room.
In game time...he's about as old as he acts...so about 5. He's like Benjamin Button in that regard.
  6. Thanks to her powerful equipment and sharp bounty hunter skills Samus Aran is a force to be reckoned with, but who designed her Power Suit?
Good question! :D That should be the Bratislava-based dominatrix who goes by the artist name "Iron Hellscream". More interesting is the little tidbit on how her kinky blue design ended up in the kid friendly nintendo environment, which...What? Oh, her POWER suit? Heh...I dunno. Your local comic convention, probably.
  7. Tom Nook is the recurring real estate tycoon in the Animal Crossing series, best-known for his lust for Bells. What is the total cost of the mortgage in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, all expansions included?
The price is your soul, your little brother's soul and the ritual sacrifice of your beloved pet dog (note: it should be beloved). That's why most people don't go that far
  8. Pokemon Sword and Shield include a new and unusual culinary mechanic - what kind of meal can you cooks in these latest installments in the series?
Freshly baked Pikachu with Ash sauce.
    ...It's an acquired taste.
  9. Solid Snake, the protagonist of Metal Gear Solid, struggles with a nasty tobacco addiction - how did he manage to smuggle a pack of cigarettes into the Shadow Moses facility?
He kept in...the shadow of the facility. :creep:
  10. In the classic First Person Shooter DOOM the anger of Doomguy reaches its zenith when he discovers that the demons murdered his pet rabbit - what was his pet's name?
    John Romero.

EDIT: @ignare: believe it or not, but I hadn't seen your post before I posted mine. Great minds think alike, I guess. :)

(...except that my answers are CORRECT :tpi:)
