Hacking Question Bought everything I needed, how should I start? Is it possible to still stay on firmware 3.0.1? :)

Fuses are about being able to downgrade. You don't know what the future holds. See my previous statement about not being a dick to Future you and making decisions that you don't understand. Just use autorcm. It is the standard. All of the smart people do it. And if you don't listen don't come crying to us when you burn your fuses. You can't downgrade. You missed out on some hacked that's only available on low firmware. Infact, don't come crying to us at all. Since you're so smart and you know more than the community combined you should be telling us how to do things.

And by that's it I meant the fuses can never be unburned dude

I was just interested because when I was new to Switch hacking and asked what to do, I was told to update my Sysnand:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/setting-up-my-switch-for-the-first-time.549995/#post-8823158

Anyways, now that I've already updated my Sysnand and burned my fuses, there is no real advantage in using autorcm or is there?

UMMMM n that thread as well you were told to update EmuNAND.... eventhough you kind of argue with everyone. It seems once again you are the expert.

Are you sure the fuses are burned? Hekate can check. Check it and see how many fuses are burned. Check against the chart below. If you updated and enabled AutoRCM before the official loader ran you are okay. If your fuses burned autoRCM removes the need for a jig and protects from more fuses burning in the future. Use it. Stop screwing future you. What's the malfunction? There is nothing wrong with it. Using it for years now. Stop trying to complicate things and just do what you are told. Future you will appreciate it.

If too many fuses are burnt the bootloader will panic immediately.

check the chart at the bottom of this page under Anti-Downgrade to see if your fuse count is too high.
https://switchbrew.org/wiki/Fuses

If you are on 3.0.1 you should have 4 burned.... CHECK WITH HEKATE before you make a big mistake

In that thread, I wasn't trying to argue but to understand.

I think, it's too late now, unfortunately. I booted directly into Sysnand (without autorcm) and updated to 9.0.1

Wish I had known better but at least it works...

Thanks for the help!

Fully charge your battery or place on charge during all of the below.
Download Tegra Gui payload sender --- Install apx driver within options.
Download Hekate payload -- Transfer extra files to sd card.
Download LockpickRCM payload

WITH HEKATE PAYLOAD
BACKUP NAND(EMMC RAW)
BACKUP BOOT 0 AND BOOT 1 .

WITH LOCKPICK RCM
BACKUP YOUR BISKEYS (AND OTHER KEYS)

The Two methods above are the crucial and most important methods to do on a new switch if you plan to mod it.
And should be the very first steps you ever take, in case of soft brick to the device.
The above are or is not a complete guide to the process, so for everything you download read the latest instructions or ask a member of the community.

Wow thank you for the information!! :D
But do i need to follow those steps even though i use SX OS Pro?
At this point i'm leaning towards Atmosphere since it feels "safer" to backup stuff since i haven't seen SX OS Pro use LockPickRCM :/

AutoRCM>>>
Your battery will be fine, it will discharge if not connected to a charger..
The reason for this is AutoRCM will keep your console in RCM mode on soft power down. Which of course drains battery.
To avoid this either,

Leave the console in the dock on charge, or via direct charger cable (not usb charging).
Or
hold the power button and in power options and select power off. this will hard power down your console and should not drain if not connected to dock....
(Now if you put your console in the dock, The dock will turn the switch on and hence autorcm and will discharge battery if the charger is not connected to dock)

Keep AutoRCM, Keep that console on the lowest version of Fw(SystemVersion ) You can.
Install Emunand Method and use that..

Alright then, i guess i will use AutoRCM since everybody seems to do it! :)
But let say that the battery life has been all drained out since i haven't charged it for 1 week. Will that increase the risk of the console being bricked? I've read that some peoples Switch got bricked after the battery life got drained out when using AutoRCM.

And if i hard power down the console wouldn't that just be same of not having AutoRCM enabled since i have to use the jig and the RCMloader again? :)

The worst part about noob threads isn't that all this information is already out there and available with a simple search, but that the noobs are always trying to skip some part and want validation for their feelings. Well ,kid, just use AutoRCM. Why write a check that can't be uncashed? Once the fuses are burnt that's it. So just follow the guides.

OP have you done ANYTHING unofficial with your console yet?

If the answer is no then BACKUP YOUR NAND, BOOT 0 AND BOOT1.. This is called a clean backup. It's THE ONLY WAY TO GO ON TO THE ONLINE SERVICE AND NOT BE BANNED IS TO BE COMPLETELY CLEAN IN THE SysNAND. THIS BACKUP GIVES YOU AN OPTION AS LONG AS YOU NEVER GO ONLINE WITH THE HACKED SYSTEM. No matter how you feel now, you'll always be able to restore a clean backup if you preserved your fuses and don't go online in CFW Don't be a dick and make decisions for future you that you don't understand. Setup EmuNAND and do all your pirate, cfw fuckery in the EmuNAND ONLY and leave your SysNAND for legit stuff.

Did you back up the NAND, Boot1 and Boot0 BEFORE DOING ANYTHING UNOFFICIAL?

If the answer is no then you are probably screwed when it comes to online play. Still good to preserve fuses.

HONESTLY, USE AUTORCM. IT WILL PROTECT YOUR FUSES. YOUR CONSOLE WILL LIVE IN SLEEP MODE ANYWAY 99% OF THE TIME SO IT WON'T MATTER EXCEPT YOU WILL HAVE A WAY TO DOWNGRADE IN THE FUTURE BACK TO YOUR CLEAN BACKUP STATE(if it was clean).. 3.0.1 might get cold boot someday so there is that as well.

Don't be a schmuck. Do what every experienced member here will tell you to do and use autoRCM. And don't listen to the Atmo Crew. SXOS is better. It's funny they mention the drag-n-drop installation but not the real best feature ever. USB HDD. I have a 5TB HDD on my switch. Never run out of space.

Ill look for a tutorial for you.

That comparison chart is outdated shit BTW

Quick read over this and it is mostly up to date... mostly. The part about install is right on. I don't think there is anything missing. I gtg for now but I will read it more in depth later and let you know...

If I were you OP I would choose to install EmuNAND as hidden partition. Less corruption (none AFAIK)...

Wow thank you so much for the information! :D
I might as well use AutoRCM if it won't burn any of my fuses :)

I haven't touched my Switch yet... I dont even think i have booted it up yet. The only thing i did before put it back in the package again, was to boot into recovery mode just to see which version it was, and that's it. So basically it's an untouched console (so far)...

But how should i backup my NAND? Should i do it through SX OS Boot menu? Or with Hekate through TegraRCMGIU using the PC?
Also is it really necessarily to set the Switch to 90DNS? I mean i won't connect to Wifi like ever, i don't want to risk the console download an update in the background and nag that there is an update available and that someone might accidentally press update... :/

Thanks to this thread i now know that if i for instance update my SysNAND and boot up normally, i will burn fuses. But the thing i don't understand is that let say that i never update my SysNAND, since i won't ever connect my device to a Wifi network... Will the fuses still be burned if i boot the device to SysNAND? :/
I think i will use AutoRCM, but it's also good to know this..

"Too bad, it's 11 burnt fuses.

My question: Is there still any reason to use autorcm?"

How ignorant. That's like saying, "I've already been burned with a DUI... I might as well keep drinking and driving."

Learn your fucking lesson and correct your action!

@Kafluke ROFL.

@theasker

SO yes still use the sxos as your cfw if you wish,
And yes you still need to make a complete backup.
Regardless if you're using sxos, atmosphere reinX etc

So you're partly correct..
So..........
Launch Tegra Gui and send the LockpickRCM payload..
to Backup your keys to the console..

Launch Tegra Gui and send the Hekate payload..
Follow a backup guide, or backup Boot0 and Boot1.
And backup Emmc/Nand

After a great backup you should have 5 files.

PROD.KEYS
TITLE.KEYS
BOOT 1 (file)
BOOT 2 (file)
RAWNAND.BIN

Keep these some were safe as these will get you out of trouble after a soft brick.

Also keep or install AutoRCM with hekate.
I noticed you seemed a little confused about AutoRCM in your reply.
AutoRCM will not drain ya battery if your console is hard powered off.
But it will if you trigger it on(By putting it in the dock for instance)
With AutoRCM installed and not hard powered off you can maintain battery level or issues by just keeping it on charge in dock or via direct charger cable (Not USB)
In the dock even tho the light is not on the switch is still charging...
Hope that's a bit clearer.

Keeping your fw (System version) on version 3.0.1 Would be great

Last thing...
You're gonna want to install EmuNand.
So to keep your stock system of nand safe. or safer.
With emunand you can keep your switch main system or nand on 3.0.1
And use Emunand say on the latest system version 9.0 so you can enjoy and play games updates that require you to be on latest or higher system version without updating your main system of 3.0.1...

Emunand can be installed with your sxos.

Last last thing :P

Sxos Pro < This is just a portable payload sender, which can be used to push any payload you want...But i wont get into too much detail about that.
You can use any CFW you would like. Sxos is good for beginners, easy to use..

So Please for the love of Pete: Fully backup your system keys and nand, then have fun breaking it :P
Cause with that backup you can always rollback and recover your fck ups :)

AutoRCM+System Keys+Boot1+Boot2+Rawnand.bin backed up is essential to any modification

Blah blah blah Canna Just trying to help.

Hahaha thank you very much for this small guide! :D
I really appreciate it since i had no idea that i should also backup PROD.KEYS and TITLE.KEYS using LockPickRCM.
I think i will do 2 copies of everything just i case :P

Just one last question, i think i have understood most things now but where do you recommend i should enable AutoRCM? Through SX OS menu or through Hekate when i'm sending that payload through Tegra Gui using my PC?
And if i enable AutoRCM using Hekate, will SX OS "understand" it's still enabled even though i didn't enable it from SX OS menu itself? :)

Ohhhh and when i backup the RAWnand, is it okay to charge the Switch while it backup? :D

EDIT: Also can i send LockPickRCM with Tegra GIU even though i haven't inserted my SX OS? Don't i need CFW in order to backup PROD.KEYS and TITLE.KEYS? Or should i backup everything like you suggested before i even touch or do anything with SX OS? :)

LockpickRCM is a payload so send that with tegra gui. put the switch in RCM mode..

Or initialize AUTORCM with either hekate or sxos, same thing same job same outcome..

Regardless of which rcm method you use auto rcm or jig everytime.
Run lockpick rcm payload to get prod and title keys these will be saved to sd card..

Like i said system keys, boot0/1,Emmc raw nand backup. Most important to backup and especially before any CFW usage. SXOS ReinX Atmosphere etc.

SX OS is a cfw ... Sxos pro is sxos with a payload sender..
You can send payloads with tegra Gui or any other sender does not matter.

So
Install Autorcm first with hekate.
backup the things i listed
Then run cfw of your choice.

When I backed up my unused Switch I only got prod keys but no title keys. Are there title keys only after putting games on the Switch or do I need to find them?

Thats right title keys come from installed titles Games app etc. Title keys are not really that important unless your using a title editor repacker etc modder.

Hi guys! Yeah I'm sorry if you think: "Here we go, another thread about how to start" but just hear me out since I only have some small questions :)

I bought everything I needed in Black Friday (SD card that have 200GB, SX OS pro, RCM Loader, replacement dock shell, controller etc etc)...

Now I bought my console some times ago and I still have firmware 3.0.1. which I haven't used or opened yet.
I have been reading this guide very thorough a few times now, just so I don't mess up things: https://switch.homebrew.guide/
And I'm thinking to go with Fusee-Gelee since it supports all FW version.

And the only reason I bought SX OS pro was because of the convenient by not having to install the games everytime, just load the XCI file and baaam play the game! :P

I don't plan to play online (I honestly don't care if I get banned), but i want to keep my sysNAND version (3.0.1) if it's possible, just in case we get a cold boot sometimes in the future...

But my small question is:
1. Should I use Fusee-Gelee or Deja-Vu? According to the website Fusee-Gelee is a non-persistent exploit and we have to use a Jig everytime we boot our Switch (I think)....
And Deja-vu is a browser based exploit, which is a browser based exploit... Does that mean we don't need any jig when using Deja-Vu?

2. Since I have my firmware on 3.0.1, is it possible to still be at 3.0.1 and install EmuNAND/EmuMMC? :)

3. Even though I bought SX OS Pro I have always wondered, let say i use Atmosphere instead.
Since we can't play the game without installing them, what happens when you run out of Internal memory? Won't we need to delete some games everytime we want to add some new? Or is it possible to install the games on the SD card and then remove the previous files "installation" file? :)
The browser is far more hassle than it's worth, because you have to boot into OFW, launch the browser through the fake news entry, go through the prompts to launch the exploit, and sometimes it fails and you have to try again or it freezes the system and you have to reboot. Plus it requires wifi every time. It only takes a couple of seconds to boot into RCM, and if you have a dongle, the payload injects immediately (~1 sec) when the dongle is plugged in. It's so much faster, and doesn't require wifi.

No not really but remember your backup might not have autorcm installed so remember that for when or if you need to restore it.
Ohhhh now i get! So it backup literally how the switch were when you backup Boot/RawNAND?

In that case I will create two backups, 1 without AutoRCM and 1 with AutoRCM...
I know I'm overdoing it but, you know just in case :D

EDIT: And also is it safe to charge the switch when it backup the files? :)

EDIT#2: Last question!! :P
When i backup my files should my SD card first be in exFAT? And then after that i format it to FAT32? I've read that it's "safer" to use FAT32 instead of exFAT, but we should only use exFAT when we backup our Nand since FAT32 only have 4gb limit.
