The release date for Final Fantasy VII: Remake is fast approaching, and PlayStation 4 players will soon have the chance to play a reimagined version of one of the most popular JRPG's of all time. However, the game won't be just a purely PS4 experience, as shown by a newly revealed boxart for the game. At the bottom of the game's cover art is a banner, denoting that FFVIIR will be a timed exclusive. This has already previously been hinted at multiple times throughout the game's development, from the initial reveal saying "play first on PS4", to Xbox Germany claiming that the game would release on the Xbox One (later having the statement walked back as a mistake). What is new, and relevant from this cover, is the timeframe of when Final Fantasy VII: Remake could be headed to other platforms--March 3, 2021. Square Enix still hasn't confirmed that the game will be headed to any other platform, at this time, but there's a decent amount of options as to what fans could expect. Previously, the company brought Kingdom Hearts compilation titles to the Xbox One, and has a history of porting Final Fantasy games to PC, showing support for both platforms. Considering the date, it could also mean that we may see Final Fantasy VII's remake make its way to the next generation of game consoles.

the original story has been done, the fan base is ready, they've developed the graphics and game engine. The big chunk of development process is done. Part 1 of FF7 Remake is golden, and all they have to do is take their time to add more content, story, maybe develop some new mechanics and they can churn out Parts 2 & 3 every subsequent year.

They will sell part 1 for $60? for 30+ hours of gameplay, it's good. but it's not the full game story. full length games don't always mean the whole story. i can make a clicker game that lasts 30 hours of just clicking, then get a cliffhanger at the end. and don't give me shit about oh you've already played it on PSX and some other platforms before. how about younger audiences who haven't played it? cmon. they haven't confirmed if they're gonna charge you another $60 for Parts 2 & 3. but who's to say they really won't, come release dates?

and that's where the skepticism is coming from. regardless if it's gonna be $180 as a full game or just $60, the wait times is also long. And who's to say it will actually be good? Who's to say part 1 was is epic then parts 2 & 3 are utter garbage because oooh aerith dies again anyway. Look at Kingdom Hearts 3. Took 15 years. The hype died in a couple of weeks after release. Look at FF15, took 10 years. It was mixed positive/negative reception, maxing at about 80% average score.
FF7 has been requested for a long time and they've spent the last 4 years developing it. And it's still "not done" enough for a single disc release.

But here's an also starting to wonder. Is "timed exclusive" a fancy industry term for we need another year to port this to other consoles? Make sure maybe there's nothing behind that at all. Maybe it's a straight-up money deal between Sony and then the other consoles just have to wait. Or is it possible that they're just using that term as a way to buy themselves a ton of extra time to put out fires with the initial release and then make things playable for future releases?

Of course I would feel bad if people disrespect my parents who worked hard for a game. That's normal to feel. But it's the customer's opinion, and they're the ones paying for the game with, guess what, their own hard-earned money. I won't be able to do anything aside from supporting them. I'm sorry, but their game failed to hook everyone in. It's just how it goes. It happens all the time. With how the market is setup, value comes from what the consumer sees (including what you show them).

That's why companies spend millions on perfectly animated CGI trailers so that a consumer gets hooked with just a snap. Then the gameplay ends up garbage, but does the company care? it's been sold. there's not enough reason to refund it.

I mean I shouldn't value a game based on how much actual hard work a developer put into it, but how much I want it. That's where SE has the power to price FF7:Remake. You're hooked, you want it and you're prepared to pay anything.

Now if you're a consumer who want to support a developer, then by ALL means, buy their game, and make donations. Just don't expect everyone to have the same feeling and circumstances as you. And calling them idiots.

For sure the game will sell really well. But we don't know if it's gonna be GOTY. There will be a lot of good contender games next year.
