For over nine years, Pokemon players have been able to use the Pokemon Global Link online feature throughout multiple generations of Pokemon games, beginning with Pokemon Black and White, and being used most recently in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Introduced in 2010, the Global Link was used as a way for players to catch unique Pokemon in the Dream World browser game, which would have unique Dream Abilities that were not obtainable otherwise. Afterwards, it was used to help facilitate online connections in the 3DS generations of Pokemon titles, for functions such as Rating Battles, Global Missions, and Live Competitions. As Pokemon Sword and Shield use a different way of connecting online players together, the Global Link service will be shut down on February 24, 2020. Once the service shuts down, those aforementioned features will no longer be usable in Pokemon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, or Ultra Moon.

As a farewell present to the Global Link, players will be able to claim a special Munna belonging to Fennel, the character who used to be the tutorial guide for the Dream World and original implementation of the Global Link. The Pokemon comes in a special Dream Ball, and has its hidden ability. You'll be able to receive the Pokemon from now until the Global Link closure, in Pokemon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon.

Won't happen. The codes don't generate wondercards, they're just an access code for cards that are on the server. The cards eventually get taken down or otherwise rendered inaccessible after some time.

The closest you could do is custom mystery gift server, as far as I remember there exists a hack that does this and which lets you receive any card by entering the card ID as the serial code, but I don't remember if this is for Gen. 6 or Gen. 7.

Not super worth it though imo, if you can use rom hacks then you can just add cards via PKHeX and the result is the same.

Yes, there would definitely have to be some kind of fake server set up. It would be neat if it was accessible without hacking, like the new replacement for WFC. But I wouldn't expect that to happen for a long time, if it ever does.

For me the PGL died when TPC discontinued the Pokemon Dream World. It really didn't have much else of value, and I'm still hoping the Kaeru Team can finish that PDW revival.
Might log on to get Fennel's Munna, and that's really the last I'll see of the PGL. Can't believe they didn't reuse it for SwSh like they have since BW.

Yeah. It's pretty lucky that unofficial servers on DS without any mods was possible, it's not likely that an exploit like this would exist for the 3Ds unfortunately. But at least, the 3DS can be modded for free, so we can redirect to alternate servers and it doesn't cost users anything extra, unlike the DS where you used to have to buy a flashcart or action replay.

I knew it and that is why I am so against online. I am staying offline and complete my own game and story. More comfortable and less headache. Online won't stay forever on any consoles. That's why it won't be permanent anyway. Its a waste of time!

I had to endure the stupid website lagging and crashing but even when everything worked perfectly I still didn't get the stupid notification to get the stupid egg. Thank you Nintendo and Gamefreak, you made me waste my time for nothing!

And no, I didn't use a hacked 3DS or Luma or anything, I used two unmooded 3DS and the original games. Maybe the egg is USA only or something?

I do have a third 3DS, that one does have Luma on it, I guess someone could sent me a save file with the stupid egg or something?

Wonder Trade doesn't depend on the GTS (I think) so you can still get people in your VIP and guests lists until all 3DS online services go down. And even then if you do keep the maximun people in your VIP list they will stay there if you are online, they just won't be updated. So is still possible to keep ranking up the plaza.

I have been using PGL for 9 years now, and I don't want it to shut down. They could just adjust it to Gen 8. They even could let you visit it straight in the Switch, but I guess it doesn't work like the past 3 generations. Also, Dream World. They didn't need to shut it down

Since there are new Pokemon games for the Switch, and the paid Polemon banks lets you transfer Pokemon to the Switch games, and the GTS is free, what do you think?

As far as I know, those services weren't via PGL. GTS is used directly on the games, and the PGL showed all the trades you did, only to show them. You can use GTS without PGL. And Pokémon Transfer has never been in the PGL's services. It's always an in-game function, or, (in this case) an external service

That stinks. I understand, nothing lasts forever when it comes to online services, but for players of Pokemon Ultra Sun & Moon they're losing a pretty big feature from a game that will only be 2 and a half years old.
