Hey so I recently debated going back to play Harvest Moon but when I think about it I also think of some of the annoying stuff to it. So I was wondering which Harvest Moon Games have you all played or beat and what was your opinion on:
  • Gameplay
  • Graphics
  • Story
  • Characters
  • Features
  • And Overall Enjoyment

And how would you rate them in games you'd go back to or not.

No mention of bugs?

Anyway why play Harvest Moon when there is Rune Factory?

Well that could be one of the things it's just in my experience I've never really had bad glitches or bugs :v
And I dunno for me I like Harvest Moon so I'm merely curious..

Harvest moon is amazing but I would recommend playing GBA (More) Friends of Mineral Town. I used to spend hours upon hours on that game.

The story just constantly develops while youre mingling with the townsfolk and growing your own farm. I've went in several years as far as I can remember and you slowly see couples starting to form. I never managed to get to the goddess however, as I had no clue how to find more sprites at the time. I might revisit the game aswell again.

Well I've actually played More Friends of Mineral Town it was just after I had my daughter in the game I just lost interest because I felt like there was nothing more to do, I mean everyone married (Cept Cliff... He fell in love with my character but I uhh... Wasn't going for him), I had alot of money, I befriended everyone as much as I could, after that it was just empty. It was nice but Mineral Town doesn't lead anywhere which is why I haven't went back to it. Though it is one of the contenders to ones I may go back to cause even though I did everything social wise, I didn't upgrade tools or get those elves to help out and though I befriended the Harvest Goddess I never befriended the lake creature so... Yeah

Oooh this is a long list and thanks for that- Honestly I haven't played any on this list so which would be the first you'd recommend? Also I noticed Tale of Two Towns and A New Beginning were low rated especially with Gameplay can I ask why that is? :0 (Or moreso what was wrong with their story and characters *Since the characters are usually one of the most important factors to a Harvest Moon Game.. )

I played the first one for the GB/GBC back when it was released.

Oh was that the one with the girl and guy farmer working together on the farm? How was it? I remember only seeing bits and pieces on it so I'm curious if you'd recommend it

Friends of Mineral Town is probably the best Harvest Moon game ever made, so make sure to check out the original or upcoming Switch remake. Other than that I have a soft spot for Grand Bazaar since I enjoy the mechanic of a weekly bazaar. If you want to try something a little more up to date: Trio of Towns is fun (look for the Hamtaro mod if your 3DS is hacked).

What I disliked about The Tale of Two Towns:
The big new feature in this game was to split the focus on crops or animals on two towns. I simply wasn't a big fan of that idea. Having lots of space for farm animals but only some small crop fields (or vice versa) was often limiting and a little annoying. Walking/riding from one town to another took a lot of time and the countless go-get-me-that-item-side-quests were overwhelming. Depending on your play style this game might still be fun for you but it wasn't for me.

What I disliked about A New Beginning:
Instead of a lively town full of little details you got some wasteland and the opportunity to build a generic town by yourself. The characters would only slowly show up to start a living there. I think the game lacked a lot of charm for those reasons. And farming the items needed to rebuild the town was really tedious...

In both cases I downvoted the characters because they were forgettable. So forgettable I even had to look them up on Fogu before rating. Even the their designs were boring. I mean... it's possible that some of them had interesting back stories, but if they did, I don't remember.

I've enjoyed Rune Factory a lot, but the slow pace (i.e. what you can do within a day) is a problem. Also, I can't figure out how to get my pets out to fight for me. I've got plenty and tried brushing/feeding them.

Most classic HM games are pretty much the same game with only some VERY minor tweaks here and there honestly, but one I've found myself to enjoy most is Boy and Girl (which is Back to Nature if playing as a boy or a previously Japan-exclusive version if playing as a girl) and would rate it 5/5 in everything, even if kinda clunky at times...

PS: Harvest Moon is great and all, but honestly I have to bring up a HM game that isn't exactly called HM, Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon, hidden gem for the PSP in the series and has many cool things like small vehicles (buggy and whatnot) and a fairly large island to explore rather than just a town, but it's drawback is the same as most HM games, you will almost daily have either too much time but nothing to do or too little time but too much to do, since simply reaching the other side of the island takes a FULL day, that's with a vehicle and without picking stuff up on the way...

Well as I said I might go back to Mineral Town cause I already tried it and liked it, my thing was it was okay but after you marry there's not much left to do. And for Grand Bazaar and Trio of Towns I guess I can try it.

Wait what? Seriously? I don't really like that. Though whenever I played the games I relied on crops more than animals. And yeah okay I get it. Oh great so A New Beginning was basically like Tree of Tranquility but before? Cause that game had us do that while being super creepy.

And yeah I get it. Some of the characters are quite easily forgettable like I honestly can't remember most of em but if even the designs fail that's not a good sign.

Indeed they are. Especially since they sometimes recycle characters but still I'm curious and Boy and Girl... It sounds familiar but I don't know if I tried it. And really? Oooh okay then.

Innocent Life? Huh never heard of it but I guess that sounds cool is there a story to it or is it just the general HM Games?

The first one for the gb/gbc is a nice game and still playable to this day.
It´s basically a mini version of the Snes release.

Innocent Life does have a story, you are an artificial human that a professor made for an experiment to see if you can integrate with the townspeople as if you were human while also being tasked to revive a barren land atop some old ruins everyone had given up on. Unlike other games, you slowly unlock more and more land, along with getting some vehicles to get around easier as you do so and has some REALLY nice additions you won't find in other HM games, like wild trees and plants being harvestable, so you don't necessarily HAVE to plant stuff to make money, you can just gather wild fruits and whatnot while exploring the island, allowing for some freedom and generally has plenty additions to the series that are fun, only thing that's kinda bad about it is that it kept the clunkiness that's characteristic of old HM games. By the way, both games I suggested, IL and B&G are both PSP games, not a fan of playing such games on home consoles, portable is best, too bad only good portable HM games are on the PSP and not 3DS... 3DS HM games are all pretty much crap:/

Are you talking about the games carrying the name "Harvest Moon" (because then I would have to agree) or about all Bokujō Monogatari entries on 3DS? Because in my opinion the Story of Seasons games were a huge step forward compared to "A New Beginning", especially "Trio of Towns".

The actual Harvest Moon games from before it changed names after the IP got sold, the 3DS ones are CRAP, either boring and limiting AF (Two Towns) or a broken buggy mess (Skytree) or incredibly annoying to play because of even more limitations than TT (Lost Valley), with only even barely decent being New Beginning which is boring after a while because it's REALLY slow compared to classic HM games... Story of Seasons isn't half bad on the other hand, although I can't enjoy that game without using a time cheat, it takes almost a full day just to walk to the other side of town and back without doing anything along the way, leaving no time for other stuff and online play is TERRIBLE as well and with a ton of limitations... at least the first one, PopoloCrois fixed many of the issues but removed online completely so just couldn't be bothered playing it after 4 hours or so and never got to give a proper try to Trio of Towns so can't talk about it.

Oh that is an interesting take on the stories. Hmm I guess I would try it if I had a PSP but I dunno it's still an option if ever I do decide to go PSP but it's a shame cause I'm more of a console ds or gameboy type of person for these games. :v

Oh you mean like the very first harvest moon game where you can only romance Maria, Ellen, Eve and Anne? Or do you mean a different game?
