Today I had decided to play my 3DS again for some nostalgia. It's been a while since I last played it, a few months. When I tried turning it on, the 3DS blue light would light up for a second and fade out without a sound. It would keep doing this as long as I have the SD Card inserted. When the SD Card is not inserted, the 3DS would stay on, but on a black screen. I do have CFW, I believe Luma 9.1, and I have a New Nintendo 3DS XL. Something worth noting, I have had a problem with this 3DS before, where the same thing would happen because somehow my SD Card slot was loose and it did not properly read. But seeing as though removing the SD Card keeps the system on must mean that this is not the cause again, but something different. I've been following this thread for some insight, and I still have not been able to fix my 3DS. Are there any more things I should try?
Maybe hold off on copying everything over for now and just focus on testing the other card first. Format it the way the guide recommends and then install Luma on it as normal. If it works, then go ahead and transfer your old stuff.
Sounds like it's not seeing boot.firm on your SD. Grab it again from https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases and also double check that your card is FAT32 formatted.
Likely when the SD is not inserted it's trying to load boot.firm from NAND but the version that is in there is too old and won't work with your current setup so it black screens instead.
I tried a fresh 8GB SD card formatted to Fat32 and it only has Luma 9.1 Boot.firm in it's root. The 3DS light fades on and abruptly shuts off instead of before, it fading off. Should I now try 10.0.1?
EDIT: I checked the SD Card and there is now a folder name "luma" in there. Does this mean that the 3DS read the file, but still shut off for some reason?

I'd personally go with the Wolfgang Puck chicken noodle soup over the Pacific Foods. It has comparable richness in chickenty broth but costs more reasonable.

Check if you have boot9strap and/or CTRNAND Luma3DS installed.
Without the SD card inserted in the n3DS, turn on the system and hold the (SELECT) button. What version is stated for the Luma3DS v#.# configuration?
Holding only Select leads to the same black screen with the LED on. Same thing happens when I hold only Start, and when I do the L-R-DpadUP-A combination. All of them lead to an all black screen with the LED lit.

- Battery trick to reset the RAM.
- Re-attempt booting the n3DS without any SD card and gamecart inserted. Hold the (SELECT) button to try accessing Luma3DS v#.# configuration.
3. Take the smallest SD card you have and copy everything off it to a computer.
4. Quadruple reformat.
5. Full Write + Verify the empty card in H2testw. Do not skip.
7. Add these two (2) files to the root of the SD card. To extract the files from the archives, use the program 7-Zip, Unarchiver, or WinRAR.

If an error was reported during the second half (Verify), you must replace the hardware failed card and go back back to step 3.

- SafeB9SInstaller v0.0.07: rename and add, SafeB9SInstaller.firm → sdmc:/boot.firm

- Several reinsertion attempts may be required to get a connection. Refer to this thread about cleaning the card and reader.
If successful, your n3DS should either launch:
- (A) Luma3DS v7.0.5 configuration if it has A9LH custom firmware.
- (B) SafeB9SInstaller if it has B9S custom firmware.
- (C) have custom firmware and no CTRNAND Luma3DS installed but the microSD card reader is broken.
- (D) no longer has custom firmware installed. It is softbricked due to failed signature checks on open firmware.
- (E) cannot boot due to broken or disconnected accessory components that aren't properly communicating with the motherboard.
- (F) has somehow experienced a catastrophic hardbricked with a dead SoC (ARM CPU).

I believe I am plagued with option C... I've tried all of these options to no avail. The 3DS still abruptly shuts off when holding Select. Seeing as I've had previous problems with the MicroSD reader, it must be broken. I need to order another one before I attempt anything that might permanently damage my 3DS. But just in case, what else would you suggest?Attempt this.

If you have a compatible DS flashcart [and if it's required, another (o/n)(2/3)DS(i)(XL/LL)(phat/lite) system to reflash that cart into ntrboot mode], you can try the ntrboot method to truly rule out if the n3DS no longer has custom firmware installed and to find out for 99% certainty the card reader is broken. See my signature for ntrboot flashcart options (one model is better than the other).
Otherwise, fix the card slot reader by replacing it.

- The part listed in this bulletin is for New 3DS, which is not compatible with New 3DS XL.
Late Edit - Due to the n3DS plug in design, your SD card slot reader might be perfectly fine but knocked loose from its socket. If you're decent with taking apart electronics, you can try disassembling and reinserting the connector back in.

Some tips and refresher for ntrboot if it has been a while since you last done it.
It must be the SD Card slot, because the 3DS still shuts off when magnet is placed and cart is inserted when I do the Start-Select-X combo. I've made sure all the files are correct and the Cart is properly place (I tried 4 times) all to no avail. I also had a bit of a question... How would I be able to set up the cart if I can't power on my 3DS and have no other systems?
