vwii drive connected to top back USB port, with a y cable. WiiU drive plugged into front, with Y cable. So USBloadergx won't show me anything when I have the WiiU drive connected to the front. I have ios58 enabled under the advice of a cyan post, contrary to the guide I followed on wiiu.hacks.guide. Nintendont works with the Wiiu drive attached. but USBLoadersgx won't load anything at all.

I think the solution is to put the vWii drive into the lower back USB port and the WiiU drive into the upper back USB port. But the little y cable port isn't long enough to reach around the front. It's only like 2-3 inches long, so not even long enough for anything, certainly wouldn't reach to a wall powered USB port. So if I buy two usb cable lengtheners and connected them both to the y cables, then ran the lengthener cable to the front USB ports (or to a wall adapter, which would free up the front ports for USB microphones or gamecube adapters), would that fix the problem? Will the drives stay spinning forever if they are connected to wall power via usb charger?

Or is there a better solution, a ustealth for the wiiu drive that will hide the wiiu drive from USBLoadergx? Or should I just use WiiFlow?

My head feels like it's going to explode coming up with an elegant solution to this based on the thousands of posts discussing the same things over the last 10 years.

More info: vwii drive is fat32. And this is a good summary of the problem. I notice the warning that the fix of plugging vwii drive to usb 1 and the wiiu drive to usb 0 doesn't work on vwii, but that was back in 2015.

Hello,

put the Wii U games, Gamecube games and Wii games on the same hard drive (in Wii U format), simply and everything will be fine.

I tried putting the vwii drive in the front ports and the wiiu drive in the back usb port, after i read that ios58 supports all usb ports. And this seems to work, both gamecube and wii games appear in usbloadergx. But wii games quit to the wii menu, and gamecube works work loaded from the front usb but i can't quit them with the home button, the home button makes the WiiU crash and even holding the power down for 10 seconds doesn't turn it off, i had to yank the power cable.

how do i put the wiiu game on the same hard drive? As its own partition?

That is an option. I have over 600 backups in my collection though. I know injected VC games don't count towards the 300 limit, but those injected titles wouldn't be searchable or taggable like they are in usbloadergx.

This won't work for you then what you said is not correct, VC games that are injected do count towards the 300 limit. Only Loadiine (which is loading games through sd card) doesn't count, but GC/Wii cannot use Loadiine.

I have 1TB drive as the wiiu drive, with games and updates. I have some of my gamecube backups on sd card so they can use the gamepad with nintendont, and on the vwii drive there is a backup of my complete collection of gamecube discs, and as many other of my wii compressed backups to fill the rest of the 2TB.

The more I think about it, I guess the more sense just swapping the drives makes to avoid the issues the issues of not using the recommended ios versions. This will mean drives will be hotswapped sometimes by accident or laziness, and there will be more wear on the little port connectors. But it also will mean the drives will be whirring half as much, as only one will be connected at all times instead of both. Both WiiU and vwii mode boot fine without their drives and it wouldn't be a disaster to load into either without a drive connected by accident. i the console is in another room and you're playing the gamepad, annoying to have to get up to swap drives.

so i searched everywhere and found two usb extenders, about two foot long each. I then plugged WiiU drive into port0 and the vWii drive (with ustealth) into port1. WiiU games work fine. Gamecube games through usbloadergx work fine. But Wii games quit back to menu. So I then installed beta 53 to slot 249 and selected that as the loader cios, wii game also wouldn't work, but this time loading back into usbloadergx the usb device could not be initialised. So I set it back to 58 and the games do appear but still Wii games quit back to the hbc. So then i tried cIOS d2x v10-alternative r53 base 57 and set it to both loader's IOS and game's IOS, but wii games still just quit back to hbc and it says usb device not initialised when i go back in with no games appearing.

Believe your issue is one has to go in the front and one has to go in the back. The two ports next to each other were really meant for a ycable not for two hard drives. Single cord external hard drives dont provide enough power to work on Wii U.

I just took a 2.5 tb drive and made 2 partitions out of 1 drive. One partition for the Wii U and one for the Wii

That is an interesting option. I would have thought that the WiiU would format the whole drive when setting it up. Do you have ustealth on the wii partition?

Both vwii and wiiu drives have y cables and are powered fine. The issue is usbloaders in vwii mode see the wiiu drive when using ios 58 it scans the ports in reverse order, or something like that. My problem is probably best summed up here https://gbatemp.net/threads/usb-loader-gx-multiple-usb-drives.466416/#post-7216091 I'm not sure i really understand the ios and stuff, usually I do what the guide tells me. But I think the ios choice can change things like how the usb ports work or what order drives are mounted.

What Kumikochan said is not possible because the Wii U has its own format if you format it with the Wii U first you would have to format it when you put it in a PC or if you format it with a PC first it would make you format it in the Wii U. Its impossible to have two partitions where one is a Wii U hard drive period end of discussion.

Im calling bs on that the Wii U formats the entire drive.
Yeah my apologies, i have that many hard drives hooked up that i mistook my ps3 Drive with the wii u one and haven't used my wii u in a while so i i forgot about the wii u formatting the entire thing and i just took a quick glance and i assumed that. Sorry for that

Probably the best solution is to put gamecube games on the SD card. SD cards are getting cheap and you can actually get TB cards now which is enough for gamecube. Nintendont warns not to change the ios so I think I've decided to do that. And for family member wiius who don't want to buy an expensive sd card, they can just unplug the WiiU drive when they want to use a vWii loader.
