I doubt this will get answered since the PSP scene is a little dead but, here goes nothing. I bought this PSP 2001 and it came with 3.80 M33-5 installed. I tried updating to 6.60PRO-C but everytime I ran the installer, it would just hang on the white PSP screen and after a few seconds it would turn on the green memory stick light for half a second and then it would shut off completely. So after attempting to update to Pro-C, Pro-C2, ME-2.3, LME-2.3 and even Infinity, the console would just do the same thing, hang on the white PSP screen and turn off after a few seconds. So I read the PSP must be in 6.60 or 6.61 OFW to install the 6.6X temporary or permanent CFW, so I decided to download the update and place it on the memory stick UPDATE folder, but even trying to run that OFW would just hang on the PSP screen aswell and then shut off. I decided to try through the PSP's System Update option, I thought for sure it wouldn't work, but it actually did. It downloaded the 6.61 firmware and it seemed to have been installing just fine, until it reached 99% and an error came up, the error code was "Update error (LPTFFFFFFFE)", so I pressed X and the system shut down. Upon starting it up, I went to check the system version and it now says 6.61! So it did install however it now has issues. Whenever I try to install ANY CFW it just hangs on the white PSP screen again! I even tried to use chronoswitch downgrader and it still does the same thing. I formatted my memory stick (I've tried with 2 different sticks) and also restored default settings on the PSP (it also hangs/freezes as soon as it finishes restoring default settings and then turns off). I do have another PSP 2001 that does have 6.60ME-1.8 installed and working fine. Is there anything I can do here or am I SOL?? Thanks in advance, anyone!!

Hello.:)

That is sad to hear of your issues with your PSP.:(

I even tried to use chronoswitch downgrader and it still does the same thing

May I ask please to which Firmware you downgraded ?

Your "Update error (LPTFFFFFFFE)" comes in many Cases when Updating from a very Low Firmware to 6.60/6.61.
In most of the Cases helps the Chronoswitch Downgrader and re-installing/update the 6.60/6.61 Firmware again (I think the Downgrader can this also).

Please also can you check of your PSP can still read UMD´s ? Maybe it is an IDStorage issue.

Good Luck.
Thank you.:)

Hello! I tried to downgrade from 6.61 to 6.20 since most people recommended that. However, I can't start the downgrade either, it gives me the same issue as trying to start a cfw installer. It just hangs on the white PSP screen after the animation. Also, my PSP does NOT read UMDs as of now, the reader seems to be bad. What is this IDStorage and how can I check if that is the problem? Thank you so much for replying so far, I really appreciate it!

That sounds unfortunately not good.:(

As I feared it is maybe really an IDStorage Error. You have confirmed the UMD is not working.I am not sure you can fix this.:(

What is IDStorage:
https://playstationdev.wiki/pspdevwiki/index.php?title=IDStorage

How to fix it ? I am sorry,I can not give you an Manual how to achieve this.

You can google it (IDStorage psp error fix) and read about.
Most of them are only for the 1000er PSP.I am afraid they do not work for the 2000er PSP.

And I am pretty sure you need the PANDORA Battery and MAGIC MEMORY Stick to fix this but I am also not sure this works for the 2000er PSP:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/pandora-mms-guide-for-installing-cfw.206173/

I am sorry to can not give happier news for you.:(

But of course you can wait for more Answers of other PSP Users and their Knowledge.:)

Thank you.:)

it's hardware fault sorry...
Seems that psp 200x suffer from motherboard deformation and some bga joint uder CPU or GPU gives problems (yes, like PS3 :( ).
Solution is reballing, but sometimes even a reballing won't fix the issue because some vias under the chip will broke too...
A quick and dirty fix consist in putting a thickness on the chip and the psp will pass the boot screen and start working again....

Well, before I updated to 6.61, while it was still running 3.80M33-5, I managed to play a few games and they all ran fine, all got past the white PSP screen. In fact, last night after trying to install 6.61LME for like the 100th time, I ran the 661 LME Launcher and it actually got past the white PSP screen, but as it started running the program it gave me an error and turned off again. But it did get past the white PSP screen. I also read that it might have something to do with the version.txt, possibly having been modified and me having no idea and updating anyway through the console. Is there any way I can check this out while being on ofw? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Also, just in case it's worth mentioning, my HOME button is bad, it doesn't really work so I have no idea if it's stick pressed or not, but it doesn't WORK. Would this affect launching cfw software in any way? Could it cause the white PSP screen to freeze and shut down the console?

Hello.:)

This means UMD Games ?
If yes then it is very clear,it is an IDStorage Error.:(
It is very unlikely that after an failed System Update the UMD Drive is broken (technically from the Hardware Side).

Thank you.:)

HI, I should have been clear when typing. I meant ISO games. I could successfully launch and run ISO games, but after launching any CFW program it would not run, only freeze at the white PSP screen and then the console would shut down itself. The UMD drive was broken when I got the psp and it still had 3.80M33-5.

What exactly could be wrong hardware wise? It could run ISOs fine but not CFW installers? It doesn't make sense that it's hardware related, on a specific moment it even went past the white screen when attempting to install LME-2.3 (although it just gave me a Load Error and turned off a few seconds later), but it did get past the white screen... This only happened once, sadly.

Hello.:)

This very,very difficult to say:

It is very probable that the UMD Drive is broken BUT considering your Troubles with Updates and installing Custom firmware it is
more likely the Previous owner did something and "brick" the PSP from Software side (like always supposed - ID Storage Error).

If you read the Link about "What is IDStorage" you will see there is a lot depending on that Keys.:(

My personal opinion is: Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick and repair the Keys.:)

Thank you.:)

Well, you were right after all... It is a hardware issue. After days reading online and trying all sorts of methods, I came across a thread on another forum where a member posted he was running into a very similar issue as me, and he managed to find a workaround. Just as you mentioned, the issue was with solder joints not making contact. However, the workaround, as odd as it may seem, worked perfectly for me. The workaround is to apply opposite pressure on either side of the psp in an alternating twisting motion as the games or cfw is loading. Already tested this with ISOs, CFW installers and PSX/Homebrew. It loads every time I do this. It certainly isn't a fix, but at least a functional workaround for me.

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped by posting their suggestions, I greatly appreciate the support, especially considering how old this console is. Just goes to show, the PSP community always was and will continue to be fantastic!! :)

You should update the 360 to newest dash before RGHing it yes. But not a big deal if you don't, you can install new dash/avatar updates after. It's just easier to do it auto online before, instead manual offline after.

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.
