Why would it be selfish? This is even more hard to comprehend than when I hear people that don't want kids get called selfish.

Well,
In countries like Japan that are experiencing demographic crisis and possible societal collapse due to an increased elderly population and piss poor birth rates - perhaps there is something to be said about selfishness
In third world countries where birth rates are booming and resources are in short supply - maybe you could say the choice to go without children is noble
I think there are cases for both
The issue goes way beyond retirement and includes too many stores, universities etc etc.For the former I don't see why their poor choice of economic model (one tends not to assume massive/exponential growth will continue indefinitely) would be my problem as it were and if the latter effectively forms your retirement fund...

A simple replacement rate would be enough to fix this. The thing is - those who will suffer most due to demographic collapse are the same people choosing to not have kids. So maybe it would be more apt to say these people are short sighted rather than selfish.
I mean due to economic issues caused by mass shuttering of businesses and institutions secondary to an extreme decrease in demand for virtually every service and product.Barring us contemplating things like loneliness and other psychological stuff then how do you figure?
And somehow the people without extra mouths to feed, possibly more disposable income and free time to sort things are going to be worse off?I mean due to economic issues caused by mass shuttering of businesses and institutions secondary to an extreme decrease in demand for virtually every service and product.
