I believe I want to update firmware on emunand just to install links awakening nsp format. I am likely wrong. I did partition and format the card correctly, I have emunand on a partition and it is active according to hekate. Fat32 filesystem. I have a nand back up and keys.

Does emunand emulate the relevant nand for updating to the new switch firmware 9.x? I am on 8.1 I believe. Any protection for the system nand at all?

I just tried to split and install with n1dus and threw an error about the same way as before. Maybe the key file I am using is old for n1dus. Looks like I am file begging now. Thanks for the tip.

u could update your emumand offline very easily. Firmware dumps are available for up to 9.0.1. Just copy choidujournx and the firmware dump to your SD and start choidujournx. Sysnand is completely uneffected by this, also no fuse burning

update:
Looks like tinfoil via usb is the way to go for now. Installed odyssey and a few other older titles. Can't install ghostbusters or or links awakening, tinfoil still throws an error. goldleaf says sigpatches or firmware. Betting on sigpatches even tho I added the recent ones found here and started over with a fresh copy of atmosphere. n1dus throws an error on install also. Just started three days ago so a long way to go. I did install neocab for a test, newer than most others so go figure. It installed with goldleaf on homebrew and tinfoil with usb. I am also trying other copies of nsps.

crap

got mario kart in the mail, popped it in, banned switch. I did switch to stock nand. emailed seller. getting money back minus shipping. keeping cdn-less machine. back on the hunt for a low serial number switch. but found my problem.

I did get links awakening installed just now with lithium via usb, got the same message too late. banned switch. guess I would have to wait on an updated version of links awakening to play it on this one maybe? asked to go online when I tried to open it. everyone else has no problem doing so I bet. tried one nsp from reddit and one from some spanish site, look like the same file. both google drive links. so banned switch. gotta love flea bay.

Try putting the Switch in airplane mode, that can sometimes help.
Mine didn't ask to go online, I was connected to wifi but I have my emuNAND patched with Incognito so it can't connect to Nintendo servers. Maybe try that? https://gbatemp.net/threads/incognito_rcm-wipe-personal-information-to-reduce-risk-of-ban.549462/
