AlphaDream, developer of the Mario & Luigi RPG series, has filed for bankruptcy

The end may be nigh for Mario & Luigi RPG series developer AlphaDream. After developing titles like Superstar Saga, Bowser's Inside Story, Dream Team, and other Mario & Luigi RPG titles, the studio has filed for bankruptcy. According to a Japanese article via Yahoo! Japan, the filing was due to the company having an unpayable debt of 465 million yen, or $4.3 million USD. Despite cult status of the original Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga entry, further entries only began to slow down, in terms of sales, with industry insiders reportedly claiming that the latest game, a Nintendo 3DS remake of Bowser's Inside Story had sold so poorly, that it had caused Nintendo to halt further plans to develop titles on the aging platform.

It's 4 million dollars not 4 thousand dollars
So whats ur point you do know game companies make roughly 200mill easy so its chump change to aquire a company like that if anythig thete could be huge profits if the bigger guys step in abd purchase and market properly

Mario and Luigi: Partner's in Time was my jam as a kid... Ah well, it's not like I was going to play anything new by AlphaDream anyways, but alas... a little sad

UPDATE 2:
Nintendo now owns the Mario & Luigi series due to AlphaDream's bankruptcy.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Oh and I was wrong on the last update. AlphaDream is completely done. They're not working/assisting on anything. Development has seized entirely.

That makes sence since it was done using Nintendo characters anyway.

I hope this doesn't screw over the future Switch game.

Remakes do sell less the newer the original game is. A GBA game cannot be played on a 3DS (Unless you have an Ambassador 3DS and even then is just a few games and without cable link functionality).

Super Star was a GBA game so it couldn't be played on the 3DS. and the Captain Goomba sidestory was good enough to consider buying the remake if you already had it.

Bowser Inside Story was a DS game so it is perfectly playable on a 3DS. Also being a DS game is (almost) region free.

Not to mention you can already play as the Mario Bros and fan favourite villain Bowser on the DS version. Bowser Junior just isn't popular enough to (re) sell the game on his own. And people wanted Captain Goomba to return.
