Last chance! GBAtemp Redbubble shirt design competition - design a shirt, winners get free merch!

RO790lE.png

You might have seen that just a little bit earlier this year, we debuted our new shirt sale, back in full force after years of you guys requesting its return! Now, it's time to get a little competitive. We know that many GBAtemp users here are incredibly talented artists, so get ready to let your art skills shine! GBAtemp will be holding a T-shirt design contest, where you can submit a digital drawing or design of what you think best represents GBAtemp and would look nice, displayed on the front or back of a lovely shirt, hoodie, or other article of clothing.

As this is a competition, we'll have three winners. The best designs, as voted by YOU, will be sold in our storefront, and the winners will receive a prize of their choosing: any design of any product on the GBAtemp Redbubble page. (Yes, even a Tempy bathmat or clock! We won't judge.)

In order to enter, you’ll need to send a private message to @Chary and @T-hug containing an image file (GIMP/Photoshop/etc) of your work, and a title for it. You can also feel free to show off your design in this thread, too! If you're not confident in your art skills, but you have a great idea for what you'd wanna see on a Tempy-themed shirt, leave a comment, and maybe one of the artists here will make your dreams come true! If that's not enough for you, then one of the non-entrant voters will be chosen at random, to win a free shirt featuring one of the winning designs! Yay!

The competition will last exactly one month--until November 2nd. Once the clock hits midnight (CST), a voting thread will go live, where everyone will be able to pick their favorite piece of art. GBAtemp Staff will contact the winners and discuss which prize they want. If it so happens that any of the winners are in one of the few regions that Redbubble does not support, or they’re unable to provide a shipping address, arrangements will be made to provide a prize of equal value (a PSN/eShop/Steam/etc card).

(Please make sure, that in making your design, that you don't directly infringe on pre-existing copyrights. References are fine, but outright infringement might get the design revoked from Redbubble, and we don't want that to happen.)

Good luck, and have fun! We look forward to seeing all the amazing submissions!

If you're interested in checking out some of our existing shirt designs, or perhaps getting a nice mug to drink hot chocolate from (Winter is coming, after all), head on over to our Redbubble storefront, and see what we've got for sale!

The original post, or in my quote?
At least on mobile, it's basically white on white.
The original post. It looks fine on desktop but I just checked on my mobile phone and you're right, it's barely visible there. Weird.

You should pay the artists.

It's a competition - the winners get compensated for their work with a prize of their choosing. :)

Read the link, that's still spec work :)

Besides, GBATemp will make money off sales of these shirts, so it's rather unfair to only give them merch instead of some monetary compensation or a percentage of the sales IMO.

They will get paid in exposure :tpi:
I really hope this is a joke.

I understand where you're coming from, however this is just a little bit of fun for our users to partake in. We have many talented users who would like to receive GBAtemp merch, but can't cover the cost of having it made and sent - this is a way to get some without spending a dime. We'd like everyone to have a chance at sporting Tempy merch, regardless of whether they can afford it or not.

Here's mine, I'd buy an official version of this by the way.

No one else really needs to apply as I've already won, I spent countless nights on this.

:tpi: might as well be this forum’s “/s”.

If the creators want 2 cents a sale, they’re welcome to it lol. This competition is coming out of pocket from the site to begin with. The money the site has “made” off these shirt sales thus far is a few dollars at best, even after a decent amount sold. A payment hasn’t even registered for those prior shirts, as the “profit” hasn’t reached payout levels; probably exactly enough to buy me one whole pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks for the effort of uploading the Tempy logos to the store. We’re not looking to make money here. That was never the intent—we’re looking to celebrate the community’s underlying creativity and artistry. Offering a cut of the sales would cheapen the fun of the entire competition. If there’s no payment threshold met, we can’t guarantee any of the users even those few pennies anyway, and we’d look foolish for mentioning it in the first place. However, depending on how much interest this little fun event gets from the community, we are considering the idea of *commissioning* ($) more dedicated artwork for shirts from some of the more well known artists here. We theoretically could notch up the dial on the cost of each shirt to get a higher profit per shirt, to have more money to pay such with, but why do that? Again, it takes away from the simple fun of what we’re trying to do, and the accessibility of users to afford the cost of the shirt to begin with.

I here what you’re saying!! but normally in this world it’s never the true artist of the product that ever sees the real money, it’s usually the label that releases it!

Edit: trust me I know this from experience :(
