Received my test unit today. Fits in the game slot perfectly and the housing is really solid. Everything slides into place without any force. USB port is extremely sturdy and does not move at all. I haven’t put Argon on my SD yet but I did put a 1612 in it and it boots but errors out because I haven’t set myself up yet. I’ll update later on when I get my files in order

Okay time for everyone to get a small present.

If you haven't been following the discord @MatinatorX , is working on a triple sd card kickstand, known as the DragonKicker, this idea evolved so that it will now replace the microsd board with a custom one and have a switch to change the sd card. This is also planned to tie into the dual/tri nand system Matinator is working on.

Note:3mm dia 1mm deep neodymium magnet goes at the front

As a result of this, the .STL for the original Dragonkicker design, (the one that only houses the microSD cards) has been released on the github

You can find the link and file HERE

Thanks @Adran_Marit ! One quick note on this, you can try printing it with an FDM printer, but it was really designed with an SLA printer in mind. If you print it be sure to post a picture in the Discord showing it off. :P

Going forward, the DragonKicker will now refer to the multiple MicroSD switching kickstand I'm working on in conjunction with the multi-NAND boards.

Initial Thoughts
Opening the packaging was nice, with the case being an actual switch game card case. Everything was laid out neatly and either clipped in place or held by glue drops. The glue dots were a bit of a pain to remove with lots of twisting and careful prying required.

Old vs New
After pestering asking nicely for a ver14 board with all the components installed (minus the USB c port) and comparing the two boards between each other. It's easy for me to physically see that the version 19 board is leagues above the version 14 board. Even with the rework the version 19 board looks and feels superior in every way.

Battery and changing it
My DragonInjector came pre-installed with the battery. Despite this fact changing the battery is easy enough done. I suggest doing this on a bench with a container for the screws, but changing the battery is as easy as undoing the two screws. Placing the battery with the positive side facing the copper sticker in the case, replacing the board and then screws. A note with the screwdriver included. I found it to be a little large-headed so ended up using my size #000 Phillips head screwdriver from my phone repair kit.

Jig

To access the jig is easy enough, slide the cap off and slide the jig out. The jig despite being physically small is nice to handle and slides in and out of the joycon rail with relative ease. To initially remove the jig from the rail I needed to use my fingernail but that was about it.

Software and updating
Using the provided adaptor I was able to plug in my DragonInjector to my pc and run the firmware update tool. This only took a second and updated the bootloader and firmware on my DragonInjector with ease.
Note: My tester unit was flashed with the working version of the bootloader by me before my pc would detect it. This is not an issue for production dragoninjectors as they are preflashed with the working bootloader.

Injecting
Once everything was ready I simply put my switch into RCM and plugged in my DragonInjector. This injected the payload within seconds.
Note 2: my console currently doesn't have a working SD card reader so I get the sd error from the payload injection

Price

The DragonInjector is one of the more expensive payload injectors on the market at $28USD plus shipping or $30USD with the type c adaptor + plus shipping. This price is only fair given the build quality on this project in quite a step above what it would have been if it had released at version 14.

Form factor
The form factor of the DragonInjector is that of a regular switch game card, because of this it fits real nicely into the game card port and comes out just as easily as a game would.

Overall

The DragonInjector is a well built product and was worth the wait while it went through various revisions and testing. It is clearly one of the best injectors on the market and worth every cent.

9/10

May I ask why you decided to score it 9/10 instead of 10/10? Or perhaps it was the kinks regarding the glue, screwdriver and jig that you mentioned that dragged it down from a perfect 10/10?

I can't test it fully as per note 2, that combined with what you mentioned did indeed bring it down, but outside of that a bloody brilliant product

It's a bit unfair to mark it down due to a fault with your console that has nothing to do with the DI. I know you're keen to share the progress but you can't fully test it then you can't fully score it. It certainly shouldn't be marked down because you can't fully test it.

However, 9/10 is still a pretty good score :P

Super hyped for the DI though. MatinatorX dedication to this project along with his unrelenting strive to deliver a 110% quality product has made it an absolute pleasure to watch the development take shape both here and in the discord channel. Mad props to MatinatorX and all of the helpers and testers. Not long now! :D

I live in Vancouver BC... Glad to see your also Canadian. Can't wait for this to come out.

I have a question for you. Are you using a battery in this model? Just wondering why you didn't just use the power coming from the USB-c /internal switch battery instead?

i understand rcm has no way to power this but sense this is in the card slot regardless 99% of the time having the cart pins charge the loader seems like a missed opportunity i think replacing the battery with a capacitor on the lines of the sx os pro injector and just having it charging there with a self cut off function would make this really better as it would be always ready to rock when you needed it and wouldnt require battery swaping at all

Read through all of these pages this has been mentioned a bunch of times. This was an original plan, but due to how the system handles power it was not possible.

I wasted a solid 5 months persuing this, it's just not viable in this small a form factor. There's a ton of info in this thread as to why that is. However, I mark it as a win in the end. We are getting over 4000 injections on a single CR1612 with the latest DragonInjector, and since the DI is engineered to physically break VCC when the USB port is not plugged into anything, it should have a standby time the same as the battery itself, of around 10 years. Now it's truly something you can just forget about until you need it.

You can either join the discord by clicking the image in my profile picture and checking announcements. Or you can visit www.dragoninjector.com

They aren't available just yet but should be within a week or two

I'm fairly certain it's against the rules to link to the shop unless it's in your sig, might wanna change that before you get in trouble. ;)

Thanks for the kind words! Feedback from the testers has been very positive, doing my best to get these available to everyone ASAP. :D

ill like to take crack at this problem my self if you could send me a layout of where the input for power is located on the main board along with how much actual voltage is needed ill be more that happy to explore this. it over all a great design to be honest and what you have done with this project really shows how invested you are in making it a reality

I want to live in your world. Already dreaming of the next Nintendo console lol. The creator has spent much time and effort perfecting this. If you read the thread/Discord you'll see it is all finally coming to a head. Be patient and you should see something soon.

It has been a very long time coming, but I can assure you that @MatinatorX has been working diligently to create a very reliable and robust product. I feel like he's been saying "tester boards will be out some time next month" for nearly a year, but they've finally been sent out and I can tell you it's definitely worth the wait.

Soon... Matinator is getting the boards ready as quickly as possible and orders should open very soon, I'm estimating the end of the month. (will update if I get new information)
