Were you on 9.0.0? If so that's why your cartridge slot doesn't work. 9.0.0 included an update to the cartridge slot. This update renders the slot unusable in earlier firmwares.

Yes it'll work fine on 9.0 or above. It'll never work below 9.0 again.
