Following the guide https://3ds.hacks.guide/ does not brick a 2|3DS.
  • Keep a NAND backup for each console (on multiple storage media)
    • :!: never try to restore the NAND image from a device to another one.
    • Restoring a NAND image is not a thing to do frivolously. If you have any bad trouble describe your problem before doing anything.
  • Any software damage can be repaired with ntrboot (requires compatible flashcart)
    • You basically would have to do very stupid things on purpose to come to this point.
    • Most problems can be solved even without this.
  • A backup of your complete SD is also nice→ Can save a lot of time in case of SD failure
  • Lastly: Installed games can be replaced, a failing 2|3DS can be replaced, your game progress NOT.
    • Use Checkpoint and/or JKSM to get decrypted backups of your saves (and store them on several different storage media).

Have fun.
Thanks!

Hi all, I got a 3ds XL and new 3ds XL from my brother who's moved onto a switch.

I'd like to sell the 3ds XL but I'm in the UK and it's a US/Canada 3ds XL. Is there a way to make it either region-free/UK-EUR region and not have any of the hacks remain installed on it, or method that persists past a system reset? So that it doesn't look like it's been hacked/modded.

I've used the seedminer method on the New 3ds XL but that obviously leaves all the CIA/Luna on it etc.

If not modded, only by getting a donor SecureInfoA or B file.

What's wrong if someone knows it is hacked? Should be worth a little more then.

I'd like to sell it to a store that I already have some credit at, I'm sure they wouldn't want it hacked. Though agree that would probably be worth more if loaded with games but it's much less hassle just selling to the store that gives a premium if their credit is taken.

Thanks. I'm not sure what this secureinfo A/B file method entails though? How does it change the region without leaving a trace on the console?

So My search fu is weak.

I recently went through the steps for CFW on the 3ds.
My son has about 30 games he cycles through continuously and I’m wanting to put them on the SD card.

I’ve got a 128gb card, used GUI format to fat 32.

Right now I’m using Godmode to make cia of the game and fbi to install and everything works, just taking forever.

Is there a direct step to go from game cart to 3ds without first making the cia?

TIA

You have to have another console of the region you want to change it to, hack it and get that file from it. If the two consoles go online at the same time they'll both be banned so the donor console should be thrown away or only owned by you and never used online.

The problem with not using a donor file is that it is edited and the signature no longer valid. Only hacked consoles can use files that aren't signed, and the file is needed on bootup so if you remove CFW the console will be bricked (if you edit the secure info file instead of using a donor).

If trading to a shop, just don't mention it if asked and they'll probably still take it. Even if they know they may still take it. However you should only trade to a shop if you really have to, you'll get way more selling to a person - for example here, you'll get $20 trading a 3DS to EB games, but about $60-$100 selling to a person. I've gotten $150 for a hacked one (around the time the new 3DS came out, and hacking wasn't as easy as now - even now you could get a minimum of $80). You'd have to have a lot of credit with the shop to make it worthwhile! Especially with all the effort the region changing will take, and losing access to online play on a console you own.

I cannot get the SFC emulator on ACE3DS plus to recognize the SNES roms on the SD card. I've placed them in the SNES folder, I've placed them in a created folder, I've placed them onto the root. I figured maybe .sfc isn't the preferred extension, so I changed all of the .sfc extensions to .smc and even tried .bin. I've even tried switching to Islam and praying to Muhammed. What am I doing wrong?

OK. I'll keep you up to date.
Hi there.
I managed to do what I wanted (temporary boot luma on unmodded 2DS in order to inject game save via JKSM).
I wrote a litte how to for future usage; if there is somewhere it could be usefull, please tell me, I would be glad to share for other nooobs like me :).

So I booted luma with a ntrboot flashcart, then I loaded homebrew launcher to launch JKSM.
BTW I tried something: I used a save file from a modded CIA file (eshop only game, japanese game with english fanstad) and it worked on an unmoded japanese 2DS, and it worked like a charm.

I only run trhough 1 problem: I was able to boot once using the magnet trick with r4i, then nothing. I tried the same way again and again, and the console refused to perform ntrboot.
I noticed that a few files were created the time I booted, so I decided to delete it all. And it worked again.
Not sure about that behavior. The files were boot9.bin, boot11.bin and otp.bin in boot9strap directory and luma.cfg in Luma directory.

Now I am very interested in game modding. If someone have websites or tools to share, please tell me (I'm aiming at fantrad and sprite editing for now).

Again, thanks everyone for the help; there are some badass guys here :)

Hi I posted a topic about this but i'm hoping I can maybe get a reply here, so i'm posting this here as well. It's for a friend so i'd really like to solve this problem:

Iv'e been having a lot of issues with CIA's installing, one time FBI even crashed on me. It hasn't crashed since then but I figure i'd post the error here incase it helps: https://gyazo.com/812c10ba7b15ab8a7c170e23891df0af

So iv'e only been able to get a couple of games installed. a GBA CIA and New Super Mario Bros 2. Any other game has given me errors and at one point one of the games was completely glitched up where it wouldn't show info on the top screen about the game, on starting, it would just crash.

So the errors I am showing here are from installs, they can sometimes get up to half way to sometimes 80% and it will crash. Iv'e gotten different errors from different games so I am posting them here:https://gyazo.com/a4e8cba2f449ae2301fb06b691990049

Here is the error I got from trying to install another game: https://gyazo.com/1b2ec518df3fd4e67ef2d7b88e078a37

Please help..

EDIT: Another thing I forgot to mention is one time when I got one of the games installed it just hung on this screen and eventually crashed, another time, one of the other games I managed to install(that didn't have info on the top screen when hovering over it.) didn't crash but got hardlocked on this screen https://gyazo.com/4c08fc7c2992cc3fa9a01ed79f57c20e and I had to reset the 3DS..

EDIT 2: Another issue I wanted to mention was sometimes when I go to install a CIA, the option isn't even there. All I see an option for is to delete, rename, copy, and paste. But no install option.

Check your SD card with H2testw and/or try another SD card that was bought at a brick and mortar store and is formatted as FAT32.

Thanks for explaining that QuantumCat, doesnt make sense to have an essentially useless console. And agreed that selling it privately would be beneficial but the store is offering £50 for a 3DS XL which isnt bad, and as you mentioned I actually have hundreds of £ worth of credit with the store as I've been clearing out my attic.

I think I will hack it and sell on eBay as they have a £1 deal where you dont have to pay anything else.

But out of curiosity if i hacked the 3DS XL and didnt install any of the final items on this page: https://3ds.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup would that leave me with a region free console without anything showing on the menu? Also would keeping it region free/hacked require the SD card to remain inside? i.e could i sell without the SD card and it will remain 'hacked'/region-free?

If you don't follow the last page, it won't be able to boot without the SD card, so you don't want to skip that. As long as you don't install any homebrew cias, or uninstall them after the end of the guide, you won't have anything showing on the menu. But people aren't likely to have a problem with buying a hacked console.

I ran H2testw and..

I am going to assume this isn't good. lol. I did check it but didn't verify. If it matters here the type of card he has, it says HC I on the card? I tried to take a pic but it was too blurry..

Yep looks like you've got a fake or defective card. The small installs probably work because they aren't trying to save into the bad/non-existent part of the card. It would probably be a good idea to back up your saves with JKSM or Checkpoint then start using a new card (that's also been tested before you use it). Cards from ebay or Amazon third-party sellers are the most likely to have problems, so if you can avoid getting your card from those places that would be best. The type of card doesn't matter too much as long as it is genuine, fake cards will look like a good brand anyway.

Hello, question from a noob here!

Just bought a 3dsXL (old one) and a normal SD Card. For the Hombrew thing, do I need a micro SD (the on in the back of the DS) or do I need an SD such the one I've already bought , which I insert in the regular SD card slot of my console.

Greetings and thank you,
Ypso

You'll need a normal SD card, or a micro SD card and a full size adapter. I don't think DS use SD cards so not sure about what you mean there. If you mean a flashcart - you can use one to hack your console if you already have one but it isn't required. Follow https://3ds.guide
