I'm looking at moving away from sx, the only perk they have over on me now is hdd support, and the fact that a 1tb drive is a lot lot cheaper than a 1tb micro sd. But was wondering how easy this is to do.

I was looking at buying a 512gb micro sd and installing the xcis I've accumulated over time to the sd. I might have to not do this with all games though as some I've just collected and never really played.

How easy is it to do now, do I need to get prod keys.

If I install xci via sx os can I then play on atmosphere with sig patches?

If I install to sd card can I just copy paste everything to a new sd card later on

Really depends if you want to use HDD Support feature or not, if you don't have a hidden partition emunand it is easy to copy the files on the sd card off to another card, keep in mind XCI size is a little big bigger than NSP, you can XCI to smaller size if you rebuild it from NSP.

I am an SXOS user, curious, why do you want to switch?

Portability and quick to fix cycle

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

do not install xci. XCI's installed with SX will not work in atmosphere.
I've only installed nsp with sx os so far and they work on both sx and atmosphere

The fix cycle I get. The portability I don’t get. I have 256GB for sysnand which is on the latest always. And 512GB for Emunand. My Emunand is in the latest supported at present which is 8.1.0. No games currently require higher. I have both online play for my genuine carts and Emunand for NSPs. The XCI loading is great. But is slower due to Nintendo 2.0 speeds. I’d stick with SXOS if I was you. The above is my set up and works great.

Oh might be worth mentioning I've been banned from online using sx os so the whole emunand thing is out of the window for me. I'm trying to be as convinient as possible and apart from data being cheaper on hdd I can't see one.

I would have my whole library in portable form, I wouldn't have to swap hard drives between my two docks and I would get access to fixes, extra ram and modules a lot lot quicker the sx provides

I only use SXOS for the cheat function. I don't use homebrew or run backups. Does atmosphere now support cheats and does it work the same way as SXOS does?

Ah yes. SXOS HDD support is still good for mass library storing. Remember game + update files can take up a lot of space.

But for you, if you don’t have online support SXOS I would say is pointless. If you don’t want the hassle of tinkering, SXOS. If you want a free solution with flexibility, then switch.

xci loading trough hdd is actually faster if you use OC, basically sys-clk editor editor can turn on the sys-clk sysmodule on SX OS. From what i saw sysmodules are actually SX OS compatible but they don't load them at boot so you need to turn them on by external means, sys-clk editor does just that with sys-clk.
BTW I wouldn't stick to one CFW. Emunand\emummc are compatible in hidden partition option and if you have the license already no point to send it to the waste bin. Just use whatever is more convenient at any time.

Is there a reason to switch to atmosphere if you already have sxos?
I don't get it, you already paid for the license, why even bother with atmosphere?
I've tried atmosphere for the test and switch back to sxos, the .xci support make my life easier.
I dont see any reason to go to atmosphere unless you want free hack, but you already have sxos.

Mainly for me, it is about the quicker support for newer firmware.

XCI support doesn't matter to me since I don't load backups. But it is nice to have the license to see what Xecuter brings to it in the future if they decide to continue to support SXOS even after the sales slow down and ends at some point since the new model Switcgh's cant be hacked yet.

I use SX OS since day 1 for playing online with my backups (and correct certificate injected in the xci)
I never installed any NSP in SYSNAND.

I can't install any NSP because I don't want to be banned
So I won't go to atmosphere if there is no way to play with your own certificate

He is ban already so no point in staying in one cfw. Unlike us where we use only XCI and not ban yet. If we go to Atmosphere then we need to change to nsp and that have a high risk of Ban. But at the same time, a lot of atmosphere or reinx users are not ban yet till today. I guess it really depends to big N and maybe avoid going online at all cost when you are in cfw.

Back to topic, no games require 9.0 yet and even the new zelda game is compatible with 8.1 so no point in upgrading. Even atmopshere do not support piracy hence whenever there is a new firmware a lot of people need to wait for a new sigpatches then some of them need to reinstall all their nsp again (imagine that). Compare to XCI where its only plug and play and we can load it thru external HDD but agree with the slowness of some games loading time for xci.

I get what you’re saying, but no games even support 9.x yet. Nor can you go online, so I don’t get the point of switching

I do go online. I have one of the new better battery model switch that cant be modded which is the main console that I use daily, then I have one that is running SXOS. I use the one that can be modded with stock firmware most of the time. All of the games that are on both systems are games that I have purchased from the Nintendo store. When I want to use a cheat I will put the exploitable switch in airplane mode and then reboot into SXOS then run whatever cheats I want to max out a character in a game the save the game. Then reboot into stock firmware and let the Nintendo cloud save make a backup for me. The boot into my none exploitable switch to download the modded save and use it.

I know it is cumbersome and mostly a waste of time but it works and has been working for some time and as of yet haven't got a ban on it "though I am under no illusion that a ban is likely at some point".

Doing this requires both consoles to be on the latest firmware for connection to Nintendo servers.
