The first three Dragon Quest games will be released on the Switch in the west

Previously announced in Japan was the re-release of the first three Dragon Quest games, for the Nintendo Switch. Japan will not be the only ones that can enjoy these oldschool games, however, as Square Enix has revealed that they will be releasing the titles digitally, in the west. On September 27th, Dragon Quest I, II, and III will launch on the Nintendo eShop, for $4.99, $6.49, and $12.49, respectively. Rather than receive a physical version like Japan will, this collection of classic titles will be a digital-only release, though it does mark the first time that Europe has had these games officially release on console.

Honestly, if I did consider buying these games, I would buy the switch release over the nes ones. I just think it may have added more polish to being more interesting game to play than the nes game. Of course, I'm not saying anything bad about people who prefer the nes original. I just hope the other games where you train monsters get a re-release. I remember playing that on gameboy color and then pokemon became the center of attention. Probably why they stopped making those versions of dragon quest. :P

Lmao, shitty switch port practices strike again. Why are they all different prices? I get that 3 is a bit longer but that doesn't justify charging $12 for it. They should be $4.99 a piece or hell released for free on the NES Online service.

Best system guys. The market will never change because you brainless idiots keep buying them.

Language. The Nes versions were only ever in Japanese or English so would have to be translated for all the non English/Japanese speaking people in the world.
all nes and snes games on the switch apps are the us versions (outside of japan), even in europe. so theyre already only available in english

Exactly my point they can only be played in English/Japanese whereas the android versions have multiple languages.

This is great news. Dragon Quest is my favourite long-running series and the Erdrick trilogy is fantastic. Those are all great games, each in its peculiar sense.

1 is a very simple game where you only control a single character and must travel around the world looking for clues in order to save the kidnapped princess and defeat the Dragonlord. It feels very basic by today's standards, but it's very cleverly designed and encourages exploration and paying attention above all. You can finish it in a weekend. 2 is a more robust game, featuring a party of three but it's also thr series' black sheep thanks to its weird pacing and unforgiving difficulty - it's still good, but undeniably flawed. 3 is an outstanding game which still feels like one of the best in the genre despite being released 31 years ago.

To anyone who's ever been a fan of RPGs but never gave Dragon Quest a fair shot, I wholeheartedly recommend as they represent arguably the best the genre has to offer. To those worried about the ports, as someone who has played many ports of Dragon Quest, I can say that despite some flaws (like the scaling issues on 1) these remakes are the most affordable, most accessible, fastest and best translated versions of these games.
