The Wii Mini has been hacked, thanks to a vulnerability in Broadcom's Bluetooth stack. I repeat. The Wii Mini has been hacked. Fullmetal5, the maker of str2hax and FlashHax, hacked it. An exploit isn't publicly available yet, but this should be interesting.

Fullmetal5, known from str2hax and FlashHax, has obviously succeeded in executing unsigned code on the Wii Mini for the first time. The stripped-down version of the Wii appeared in March 2013 in Europe and has neither online features, nor an SD card, which made a hack impossible so far.

The RiiConnect24 team, which has good contacts with homebrew developers, exploits a bug in Broadcom's Bluetooth stack. Further details and a possible release date are not known

Saw the news yesterday.
It was finally time for this thing to be hacked.
Although, if it has no online nor SD, what purpose would it serve?
USB Loading? Does it even have USB ports?

It has a single USB port, so that's good. No online or SD (or any output other than composite!) definitely are drags though.

Nice!
At least it has one USB port.
Enough for an HDD with Wiiflow and Homebrew :^}
It has so much empty space inside (not surprising, it's bigger in one dimension, bigger in another since it's a toploader, and comparable in the other) you might as well fit an internal drive for geek cred :D

Fullmetal5 has posted more information about the Wii Mini Hack.

The following things still need to be done:

- A bluetooth stager uploading payloads (about 50% done)
- Write something that loads larger payloads from USB
- Check if the IOS exploit to install the homebrew channel from the HackMii installer is still working (and if the vWii exploit still works on the Wii Mini IOS) and if not, find a new bug in IOS (that's the least of the problems)

Since every IOS comes with the Bluetooth stack, the exploit should also run in the system menu - then no game would be needed.

In addition, a Bluetooth adapter is needed - for example. Of Plugable. The integrated Bluetooth of a laptop should also work (at least that was the case with smashbroshax). Also, the whole thing is currently only under Linux - but enough for a live system or a virtual machine. Of course, this is no longer necessary after installing the homebrew channel.
