There is GM9Megascript that deletes a handful of files when cleaning up the SD card. Other than that, no. Many of those files in that kit would need to be manually removed by user preference.

The cfw starter kit is for those who want the convenience of having most of the popular homebrew apps already collected for them, would like to explore stuff they're not familiar with, need a reference setup to figure out which files should go where, and debugging their 3DS systems for miscellaneous software issues.

Of course, the drawback is that the kit is considered excessive to those looking for a simple build where they already know a handful of homebrew titles that they specifically want.

My general reply to noobies with nonworking hacked 3DS systems assumes some of the following:

(1) They followed an unofficial guide such as YouTube video tutorials where their custom firmware setup is incomplete or critical procedures were skipped.
(2) The setup they're using has outdated arm9loaderhax custom firmware -or- really old versions of [ boot9strap / Luma3DS / GodMode9 ].
(3) Their efforts to revive their 3DS systems has comes up short, and they need a (nearly) sure proof way to get it back to bootable state.
***

I recommend you hardware test your empty SD card if you've never done so before. The safety of your data and saves will depend on verifying that the card you're using isn't fake or faulty.

You don't have to use the CFW starter kit or all of it. You can pull out only the files specified in the Finalizing Setup, or download them from their GitHub release source page.

Go ahead with Updating B9S if you're not sure or don't know if you're not using the latest boot9strap v1.3.

Do all of the Finalizing Setup. Too many people fail to follow through with the later sections.

First, hack your second or replacement n3DSXL or n2DSXL system using 3ds.hacks.guide. See seedminer or ntrboot for the two most popular methods.

Second, once both your source and target systems have custom firmware, you decide whether you want to System Transfer your first system's NNID over to the second system using System Transfer.

-or-

You can copy or move just the Nintendo 3DS folder with the SDTransfer method. (Ie, you wish to keep the NNID and user profile on the first system but want the 2nd system to have the same set of games as the 1st system).

Thanks for the informative reply. I actually went ahead and completed the tutorial using the CFW Kit. A lot of stuff is on the 2ds that I do not need :(

I’ve already accidentally opened a program called 3DSbank and now when I boot up, all my games are missing. Then I found them in 3dsBank in one of the folders. How do I remove this? Delete it like I would a game?

I’ve noticed that the 2ds takes a little longer to boot. Could this be because of one of the newer apps from the CFW kit that I installed that I never used to have?

I had another question which I think you answered at the end of your post.

If I just wanted to have a back up of my current console with all it’s games and saves on a separate micro SD card, is it enough just to copy and paste all the contents of the memory card on to another? Or just store on a hard drive?

Thanks again.

Under the starter kit's Update Changes Log, you can find each app's release page and learn what they are.

3DSBank is a manager for multiple Nintendo 3DS folders in case you have over 300 titles or would like to keep separate libraries.

To uninstall apps,
  • FBI → Titles → Example Homebrew → Uninstall Title And Ticket
The longer loading time is due to having lots of 3DSX apps for Homebrew Launcher or lots of CIAs installed on HOME Menu.

You can backup already installed games, DLCs, and updates into CIAs using GodMode9.
For 3DS saves + extdata, use Checkpoint or JKSM.

For GBA Virtual Console saves,
And DSiWare saves,
If all you want to do is move the Nintendo 3DS folder to a bigger SD card, you simply copy and paste. For cloning or sharing that folder between two systems, see my above reply to tiamat999.

Can we remove region locks for golden pants miis like this one? I want it with gold pants on my o2ds

Now that I’ve used the app, and most of my games have gone into one of it’s ‘slots’, if I delete the app, will I lose any of the games?

Can someone answer my question please? i'll post it again:

"EDIT 2: Ok I am having a bit of an issue on my own 3DS now. I got to step 8 in part 8 of the guide here: https://3ds.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup

"Copy <date>_<serialnumber>_sysnand_###.bin, <date>_<serialnumber>_sysnand_###.bin.sha, essential.exefs, and boot9.bin from the /gm9/out/ folder on your SD card to a safe location on your computer"

This worked on my friends 3DS I soft modded, but on mine it only gave me the sysnand.bin file. No file with a serial number and a .sha, and no exef file from what I can see. Are those necessary for backup incase a problem occurs? this is what I see:

https://gyazo.com/89e051c25611f1f669ae75414a5973bc I already backed up [serial number here]_sysnand.bin. But I don't see the other files?"

I'm asking because I just want to know if those files I mentioned are necessary to performing a backup if something ever goes wrong on my 3DS.

Are you using the latest version of GodMode9?

I'm not sure. It just said God Mode explorer 1.2.5.
Get the latest version, that one must be really old. I can only see a 1.2.1 and a 1.2.7 from 2017 but maybe there was an in between release. The latest is 1.8.0.

When you are following the guide you should follow all the instructions, including the ones that tell you to download stuff.

I am having trouble understanding what you're saying. Can you tell us what page, what section and what step you are following in the guide and tell us what is happening that you didn't expect?

Uninstalling the 3DSBank app will not delete the slots or the Nintendo 3DS folders, so no you will not lose games.

Not very helpful i jsut want to remove the region lock on it or someone scans it exports the mii and gives it
Does SpecializeMii not work in giving you gold pants? Or are you being picky about how you acquired said pants? You don't like the idea of rockin' digital counterfeit fashion goods?

I doubt you'll have much success finding a native JPN 3DS user who feels generous enough to fulfill your strange request, but you can try at:

I had my 3DS at 11.6, however, I have updated it to 11.11, and now it won't boot. The following error pops up: "Failed to apply 1 FIRM patch(es)".
I know this is a common question that has been already answered multiple times. As far as I understand, it should be okay just by updating the boot.firm from Luma. Now, my problem is that I lost the SD card I used to use with my 3DS with Luma, and just placing the updated boot.firm in the root folder of my new blank SD card doesn't work. The error keeps showing. I don't know if I should have other files in the SD in order to get it to work again or what. How can I aolve this mess?

Is it 64GB or greater? If so, format it to FAT32 using guiformat or a similar formatting program (windows can't do it on its own).

If 32GB or less, test your SD card with H2testw, it is probably faulty. https://3ds.guide/h2testw-(windows)

Thank you for your help. I spotted the problem thanks to your message. I was trying to use the same card I use in my Switch, which is exFat format, not FAT32

I haven’t touched the 3DS or Gateway since around November 2014, and at that time I was updating the Gateway 3ds from 2.2 to newest release (question posted on page 218 of this thread).

Which brings me to today and researching a bit and seeing that Gateway is no longer the way to go or supported and I have to be honest, I have been away for a very long time and everything has changed.

What is my best and easiest option to be able to use the 3DS and play backup games? Is it 3ds.hacks.guide method? Or some other method other cart?

I’m sure the firmware is very old on the 3DS (will be able to verify late this week).

I know this probably has been asked and answered a ton of times. Regardless any help and or pointing to the correct thread is greatly appreciated!

It could be having too many apps installed, but the problem that Ive run into myself is that larger SD cards just take forever to boot on a 3ds. I assume its because only FAT32 is allowed for some reason.

I had a 200GB SD that I didn't need once i got a new phone, and it was so slow on boot it was really unusable. Even with a 64 GB in, its still pretty sluggish. But 32GB is too small for me, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

https://3ds.guide is the way to go. If you haven't used it since 2014 then you were probably using the DS Profile exploit and you won't have to uninstall anything. You can use the same exploit to install CFW (MSET). To play the games you already have, once you have CFW use GodMode9 (https://3ds.guide/godmode9-usage) to convert the 3ds files to cia and then you can install with FBI.

You could be right as I upgraded to 64GB from 32GB.

It’s not that bad but can be a bit worrying when you power on the device and just get a blank screen for a few seconds.
