I don't know if this is a dumb question but can homebrew play online vs other switch users?
even if banned? if so what would be required? i have an idea for a game but it would be offline/online play.

i have downloaded the devkit program to start but idk if anyone has any homebrew that does this yet?

Yes, as long as the Switch is connected to the internet (via 90dns etc if avoiding a ban, doesn't matter if already banned) then homebrew would be able to do online multiplayer in any of the ways it's usually done (through a server, peer-to-peer with matchmaking, etc). You should be able to find general non-Switch-specific info about that on the internets. I don't know how complete the homebrew-accessible networking services are, but they can talk to web servers and transfer files etc so I imagine they're able to do what you need.

Yeah so is there an example homebrew that utilizes this? I plan on making a simple game that is more fun to play with other players.
If not i will first setup a environment and try this locally. As i do not want users mess around with DNS settings just to play with other users but if not possible without it i might consider it.

Sure but im asking for homebrew online play and not lan. Im not trying to mess around with the switch dns settings at all so it be easy to just download the homebrew and play with users.

It is possible, it requires some meditation to set the connection straight. Once you've meditated enough and gained access to TX-Online Play you can use the online features (after using Incognito) to contact to the Nintendo servers and play some online games!
