New Intellivision Amico Gamescom trailer gives a glimpse at some of its exclusive games

The Intellivision Amico has certainly gained notoriety ever since its reveal, boldly claiming it would have more impressive 2D visuals than the current console generation. It's been almost a year since that initial tease, and at Gamescom 2019, we got a better look at what exactly the Amico will have to offer. In a new trailer, Tommy Tallarico talks about the goal of the Amico, and his desire to create family-friendly games that are simple and easy for people to play together. The new system, which looks like a 90's MP3 player crossed a wireless landline phone, will also come in five color variations: red, purple, gold, silver, and black. There will be 17 titles at launch, all of them exclusive to the Amico; in fact, every game on the console will be an exclusive. Some of the games received brief snippets of footage in the trailer, though there was no mention of the new Earthworm Jim game. The Intellivision Amico will launch on October 10, 2020 for $149, with each of its games costing $2.99 to $9.99.

that music choice was the absolute worst. I was dying laughing. someone wasn't told this dude would be spliced talking in the middle of the console sizzle reel.

"we want to bring back family gaming"
"DUMDUMDUMDUM"
"we're going to fill that local player need we think is missing"
"ZZWWWWAAAAAHHHH"

the 90s feel had to be intentional though right?

still, I'll probably get it. looks weird.

What kind of people could be interested in buying this console? Those who had an Intellivision as kids in the 80's?

I'm usually not that pessimistic, but this feels like a wasted effort to me.

I wish they'd bring that new Earthworm Jim game to already existing consoles. They could also release remakes of Intellivision classics as a compilation. I'm not buying a new console just for one or two games that interest me.

I cracked up laughing when this dude was marketing the console to casuals instead of hardcore gamers only to be followed by music and visual effects that screamed "THIS IS SO HARDCORE".

Though, I have to admit that I'm actually interested in this. Affordable and probably something to play on with my non-gamer friends.

Personally, I think this is the most promising of the "tertiary" gaming systems on the horizon - I'm certainly more interested in this than Google Stadia.
Cool looking selection of updated arcade and console classics ...certainly not "kiddy games" (which is so ironic on a forum primarily focussed on Nintendo) as someone stated above.

No, I'm very interested in CP2077... but I have a PS4 Pro already.
Why would anyone with a current system be even vaguely interested in Googles multi-plat, streaming-only, system?

If you didn't have a killer PC and wanted to play games on max settings 4K 60fps? That is, if you have a good unlimited internet connection.

So, someone that has an extremely good internet connection (the sort that costs over £500 a year where I live) but doesn't own an Xbox One X/PS4 Pro/High end gaming PC, and is happy to pay a subscription AND buy digital only games (that may get delisted, never to be accessed on the service again) for full price? ...that's a smaller market than most people realise.

That is with the assumption everyone has the same costs of internet like you though. Also if I'm not mistaken, there are games that come with the subscription, though Google hasn't been clear on this front. But that clears the question of "why would anyone want this", small market yes, but there's plenty of people who would like this sort of thing. Time will tell how it does I guess.

EDIT: Apparently recently it has been cleared up by Eurogamer. You're right, you do have to buy every game separately at full price. Only Destiny will be free with Stadia Pro, and there will be a monthly free games thing like PS+. In that case, I take back what I said, this market is even smaller than I imagined, what is Google thinking? I'm curious to see how it does anyhow.
