Hacking SD card out of space

So I didn't really think things through before I installed the firmware and did it on a 16GB SD card. A few games later and I realise I'm running really low on space.
If I were to switch to a new SD card, would I have to go through the entire installation process again? And is it possible for me to store my games across multiple SD cards?

Copy all the stuff from the old to the new card.

There is no reason to do that. Copy all folders and files to the new card and insert the bigger sd card in the 3ds
