Sega remixes their "Genesis Does" commercial for the 30th anniversary of the system

In celebration of the Sega Genesis turning 30 years old, today, Sega has uploaded a new trailer for the upcoming Genesis Mini. This is no normal trailer, though, as it takes the retro "Genesis Does" commercial from the early 90s, and remixes it to fit the modern re-release. You won't hear the classic "Nintendon't", but you will see the Genesis Mini, and some of the games it'll offer, when it launches on September 19th in North America, and October 4th, for the Mega Drive Mini variant.

I'm still pretty convinced Sony did the least amount of effort since they know fans would improve on it anyways. Still, it worked and the narrative right now is that the PS Classic is worth it since it is so cheap and hackers have fixed it. I don't know what to say, but at least the consumers have the possibility to get something better than what the vanilla PS Classic offers.

The whole PAL in NTSC region stuff was pretty lame and a sad excuse for having poorly optimized software. Still, I retain that the mini consoles should try to be as faithful to the regions they get released in (though while still providing the 60hz option for converts like me).

You can change the games to run at 60 Hz just fine, or just replace them. Still a cheap move on their part, half-assed all the way. I think they're what, 20 bucks now?

I think some of the games should definitely straight up get replaced, but that's usually the case with these systems and personal opinions. Anyways, let's hope Sony sets things straight with their backwards compatibility on PS5.

Back on topic, I do wonder how hacking the Genesis mini will be. M2 do have a tendency to use specific optimizations in their emulators. I remember their 3DS one being a bit tricky to inject games into. However the earlier Wii one was easier if I'm not mistaken...

Yeah, it may be difficult to hack more games into it, given M2's track record of optimizing games.

Compare that to how Sega treats their fandom with fan projects and other media.
That might have something to do with the fact that every mainline Mario game has been fantastic, and 99% of mainline Sonic games since the Genesis era have been hot garbage. Also, it took Sega bowing out of the console market before they realized they needed help from the fans.

Yeah, let's hope that's not what it's gonna take to get Nintendo to come to the same realization. They didn't show much willingness at all during the Wii U days, although, they did have the 3DS going well enough for them.

Then I hope Miyamoto lasts them for eternity.
And still, even if that were the case, that doesn't excuse them for how shitty they've been treating the fans all around.

Well, my point is that you never want to be in a position where your fans know how to design games for your most prominent IP better than you do. As long as Nintendo games keep selling like hotcakes, they have nothing to fear, even if some fans are frustrated that they don't have more input.

After the MLiG video I'm not feeling too hot about this anymore. They did have a point too, M2 is great with personalized emulators and tweaks per game so hacking it to expand the game selection may not be too easy.

Initial impressions I've seen aren't stellar, from non functioning controllers to inaccurate and laggy sound emulation. Which isn't something I would have expected from M2. I wonder if it's able to receive firmware updates?

from the stuff ive seen, its not perfect but its really good. Much much better than the PS one classic.

At least with this being Sega, if hackers find a way to inject games and, if necessary make patches for them, there's less of a chance (if there even is one) that someone ends up like Sluffy did for the SNES classic when he lost his job 'cause Nintendo sent a complaint to his employer about what he'd been up to.

Genesis Doesn't What NintenDO. :P

Actually, I'm not entirely against SEGA consoles. I would even get the DreamCast if I can find it. I also like Sonic; just not the upcoming movie version of Sonic. More like Sonic as he appears in Wreck-It Ralph. Oh, and of course, his own franchise of shows.

One of the original "Genesis Does" trailers. Unfortunately, not superb quality, but it will do:

Looking at those old Sega comercials, not only the USA got the Sega Genesis cheaper than the Super Nintendo but there was also a promo that included Sonic 1 with the console. And there was even a limited deal when Sonic 2 came out that you got a Sega Genesis with Sonic 1 and 2.

It makes me wonder how the hell Nintendo sold over 10 million more console units than Sega. Probably the Sega clones stole like 5 million units in profits for Sega but even then...

Sonic 3 has copyright problems because Michael Jackson family are dicks. While he was alive he was so disappointed than the Sega Genesis couldn't play his music on CD quality on a sega Genesis cardridge that he didn't ask for any royalties money whatsoever.

Then he died and the shitstorm started.
