Hi all, I am thinking of restoring/downgrading my switch from 8.1.0 to 3.0.2 (my previous clean nand backup) and set up Caffeine and emuMMC after that.
Is it worthwhile? and if it is is what are my steps to do it correctly?

*edit: i have been using auto rcm since i upgraded a few times visa chourdujournx, so i think my fuses are not burnt. I also have no intention of going online. Just thought that the idea of caffeine is good so i don't have to load rcm if i somehow let my switch run out of battery.

Don’t forget you need network to start exploit so sometimes may be better using rcm!

I would recommend using what you already have. There's no reason to complicate the setup when AutoRCM and fusee gelee more than suffice. Having to coldboot into sysNAND, load PegaScape, and load your emuNAND is in my opinion more cumbersome than merely loading a fusee gelee payload after a coldboot. I'm also in a similar position as you (low fuse count, AutoRCM).

That all being said, your options are limited if 3.0.2 is your clean NAND backup. That means your fuse count is likely 4, which means you cannot downgrade to anything lower than 3.0.1. Unfortunately, Caffeine is not compatible with 3.0.1-3.0.2, and if your fuse count is 4, you would have to update to 4.0.1-4.1.0 to use Caffeine, making your fuse count 5. If Caffeine is very important to you, then this is a fine choice, but you would then be locked out of 3.0.1/3.0.2. An untethered coldboot exploit could, in principle, be released for 3.0.2 and lower in the distant future, and 4.0.0 and higher are highly unlikely to be able to get an untethered coldboot exploit.

In summary, you would probably be locking yourself out of a future untethered coldboot exploit in order to use Caffeine now.

Got it! Will stick with what I have now then. Thanks alot

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and nvidia is already doing ARM
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus

Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

AI assisted game creation might become a thing

At least that's something I think would be pretty cool.

Many TBs of assets and the programming of something like that is going to be tough but I think it's something we might see in 20 years maybe sooner

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero

before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there

and using LLMs to generate NPC dialogue and even dynamically generated quests is something i'm sure is already happening
