Nintendo Switch Online NES games for August 2019 revealed

Are you ready for more NES games? Because it's a brand new month, which means a brand new pair of retro games are about to be added to the catalog of playable NES titles for those that subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online. This month sees the addition of Kung-Fu Heroes and Vice: Project Doom, on August 21st. The former is a 1986 port of a 1984 arcade game, which is a beat-em-up that supports coop play with up to two players. Meanwhile, the latter is a side-scrolling action-platformer, with a few slight similarities to a more well-known NES title, Ninja Gaiden. Vice: Project Doom was developed by Aicom, a subsidiary of Sammy Industries, and Kung-Fu Heroes was created by a company now known as Culture Brain.

Kung-Fu Heroes: Monsters have taken Princess Min-Min and the 10 treasures of the land, and the people have fallen into sorrow. Only Kung-Fu Masters Jacky and Lee can save the princess and retrieve the treasures! Their journey will take them to eight different castles filled with hosts of traps and obstacles. Use punches and the Miracle Kick to defeat the enemies. You will need quick wits and lightning reflexes to make it to the last castle!

Vice: Project Doom: There exists a group of undercover detectives who dare stand up to the evil in the world... They are known as Vice. Officer Quinn Hart, a member of Vice, is on the case and after the truth. High-speed car chases, action-packed battles employing three types of weapons and a mode with three 3D rail-shooting stages all bring this cyberpunk world to life.

You DO realize emulation through emulators IS legal...right?
Just because it is sold in a box from nintendo, does not mean it is more legal than things like dolphin.

Obviously.
Even if I own my copies of the OG, the NS with its ARM is so underpowered, emulation on the go is at best painful if not impossible. Some talented people are doing there best though.

You understand I was talking about an official release, optimized and all, right ?
One can dream :)

If i remember correctly, there are some wii releases on the Nvidia shield somewhere in china (mario galaxy nvidia shield should yield some results on google), so emulation is very possible on the switch.

A man of taste.

Offtopic but it is a serious offer. Everybody* is welcome in my "private Arcade", especially since the arcade culture is dead in germany. We had a big Arcade in Cologne, but that one sold most of their good cabinets.
During their golden days they had DDR Extreme, Dancing Stage EuroMix2, ITG, a version of PIU, F-Zero AX (!!!) and even a After Burner Climax, Ouutrun 2 SP (4 player Link-Mode!) and even a Tekken 6 I think...now they only have some generic Light gun Shooters and many, many Slot Machines.

The other one is in Berlin and is still in "buildup mode", aquiring cabinets and stuff like that. They are making good progression though.

*16 years and older. Should also be able to behave like a normal, human beeing and play "respectfully" with my equipment - the hardware was expensive after all

eshop didn't have enough shovelware so they decided to make us pay monthly for more shovelware from the 80's

Never heard of either of these. That doesn't necessarily mean they're not worthy inclusions though. Variety is usually a good thing.
I honestly don't care much about NES games, I grew up with SNES and GBC so NES was a bit before my time. I hope they'll give us some SNES games soon. It has to happen sooner or later.
The Switch has been out for years already, and while I don't know how long they plan for it to last before releasing their next console, I hope we get SNES games sooner rather than later so that they can get a good amount of them released before the end of the Switch's life cycle. I don't need another system for playing retro games on, but SNES and N64 are the two Nintendo platforms I keep coming back to the most in the form of emulation, so they're the ones I'm most interested in.
Well, apart from GameCube and Wii, but I'm not expecting Nintendo to release those on the Switch. Ports/remakes of Skyward Sword, Paper Mario TTYD and Super Paper Mario would do me nicely though.

Nintendo: "We're running out of games to put on the app"
Mega Man 1-6, EarthBound Beginnings, Contra, Castlevania, Pac-Man: Am I a joke to you?

Mother is the only realistic thing here. This isn't the VC, most companies are putting out their retro library on their terms. Mega Man, Pac-man, Castlevania and Contra are already there for instance.

Can't wait until 2021 so I can play SNES games and 2023 so I can play N64 games on my switch (officially).

@Psionic Roshambo i didn't go amd for one specific reason, the AI performance is way behind nvidia
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    i just got a 4070ti
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
oh yeah also DLSS is a pretty solid reason to go nvidia since fidelityfx is kinda crap
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and now with the rtx video upscaling, and sdr->hdr conversion, even more reason to go nvidia
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
both of which work well in potplayer
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
amd is a bit cheaper though
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Cheaper and they are less stingy with the RAM not a big issue now but I can imagine in a yard or two things might be different
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Year not yard lol
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Interesting lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
    +1
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
