Grandia HD Collection launches on the Switch next week, PC release to follow later

GungHo Online Entertainment will be releasing the Grandia HD Collection on the Nintendo Switch next week, bringing two classic Sega Saturn-era JRPGs to a modern platform. Both titles, Grandia I and II, will feature updated graphics, a revised UI, both Japanese and English audio, and brand-new French and German translations. The Nintendo Switch version will release on August 16th, while the Steam version will follow at a later date. The PC port of the Grandia HD Collection will see the currently-released Grandia II: Anniversary Edition renamed to Grandia II: HD, with both games having Steam cards, widescreen support, keyboard and mouse mapping, and all the aforementioned improvements that the Switch version will have as well.

TBH I remember the battle system being really nice and dynamic.
But was the game as a whole so good?
I sure enjoyed it back in the day, but I don't remember much about the game other than that.
I would say, other than the battle system, it didn't leave much of a lasting impression for me. I just can't remember.

What? Back in the day when I was a kid I couldn't understand English very good but (careful story spoiler!)
when I reached the moon and had to leave Marik behind. That was so moving! I couldn't believe that they let a character die. Even for today's standard this is pretty rare and catched me.

That was really unexpected and even without replay value I played through the game 4x already. There aren't many games I played that often. This was one of it.

ooh boy I love grandia sooo much. Now if we could just get some legend of dragooooooooon :3
II is my favorite. the battle system of grandia is so much better than most games.

edit: I really enjoyed how most dungeons were only 3 floors it made the game feel really fast along with the battle system. And following the storyline.

I will autoforget the spoiler, because I think it probably applies to Grandia I, not to Grandia II (that my comment was about).
I owned Grandia I on the PS1 three thousands years ago, but I never got to play it really (and who knows where it is anymore).

Hmmm... I will probably end getting this collection just for the first Grandia perhaps, and to remember the second one because really I barely remember anything regarding the plot.

is there any information about price? I mean the game isn't even listed as coming soon on the eshop, almost as if they're trying not to promote it. :-/

Probably one of the lamest excuses why a remaster won't appear on PS4

As for a reason more specific to the PS4, Takeshi Minagawa discussed the challenges of making the game support 4K on the more powerful system. “When you look at Nintendo Switch, it only supports up to 1080p. The PS4 is now actually moving into 4K. If we actually tried to convert the original graphics to 4K, one, that’s too much work, and two, we are going to have to think about how we are trying to convert the visuals to 4K while keeping the original essence in it.

Does anyone care whether it's 4K or not??

Legend of Dragoon was developed and published by Sony, so the only place you'd see it is Playstation.

However, you can play it on Switch with Retroarch PCSX Rearmed core.

I wonder how much better is this PC version of Grandia II.
Perhaps memories are embellished, but I remember playing it around two decades ago on my then potato PC (probably comparable to an underclocked RPi1) and it looked quite well already. How much can it improve? I guess I will have to look for some youtube video or something. (only played the 2002 release)

The 2015 anniversary edition is going to be updated with the remaster enhancements.
