DuckTales: Remastered will soon be delisted from digital storefronts

JqT71ec.png

If you want your nostalgia fix, this is the last train to Duckburg, as Capcom will be removing DuckTales: Remastered from sale on digital storefronts. You have until August 8th to grab the game, before licenses expire, and Capcom delists the game from Steam, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U. DuckTales: Remastered is currently 75%, starting today, so that fans can buy the game cheap before they lose the chance to do so, forever. If you own the game already, or grabbed it during this sale, you'll be able to keep it and re-download it even after it's been pulled, and of course, any physical releases of the game will still function as well.

Now the question arises:
Is it moral--wait is it even legal to pirate this after It's copyright and license expire?
Copyright and licence is two different things.

Copyright lasts for ages (barring medicine taking a boost there is a decent chance nobody here will live to see it age out* for this game). However when it ends then by definition there is no more copyright on the work. Depending upon what is done there might still be trademark concerns (as long as you renew them and enforce them then they are endless) but that will likely not apply to anything you do as an individual for yourself.

A licence in this case is just the agreement one rights holder gives another to allow them to make use of their work in certain ways (think you will be allowed to make a game for these platforms, don't use the characters in a manner that brings them into disrepute...), seemingly in this case for a limited amount of time. It need not mean the work produced be given over to the rights holder at the end of it (it could be part of an agreement but even most indy devs would probably scoff at that one, though we do have things like https://www.polygon.com/fallout/2019/1/3/18167492/westworld-fallout-shelter-mobile-game-lawsuit . On the other hand there are those doing the whole work for hire/session musician thing) and thus we arrive at the situation where the IP owner declines to allow new sales to be generated by the original owner, and the IP owner can't do anything as they don't own the game code and thus the game gets pulled. In the case of music this can sometimes be resolved by stripping out the music but stripping out character designs, possibly level designs and more would leave you with not a lot, though I would be interested to see the adventures of generic sprite art boy as a kind of joke.

Traditionally this was not such a problem as we had the second hand market. However as pretty much all download services have artificially stopped said second hand market...

*choice video here, we have since seen extensions not be further increased but it is not like they are coming down.

Legality be damned, if companies like Capcom refuse to renew licenses and pull games off, such out of print/impossible to otherwise obtain games deserve to be pirated.

Well, legally it is still copyrighted even if they choose not to sell it anymore. Morally, I see nothing wrong with porating any form of out of print media. If it's not worth selling, it's not worth protecting.

Steam reviews are saying the game is broken because the last boss causes a crash. Can anyone confirm this? I'm considering buying it, but not if it's broken.

i have it pirated on pc and finished it, hope this helps ;), purchased the game on my dead 360, shame it wasn't released for Switch or PS4, would have pirated it on switch probably even purchasing a physical copy for old times sake if it included the original 2 games with it

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Question is when the devs can pull a game for lack of sales, when will the time come that they remove it for lack of re downloads and use the excuse there is no demand for it, no one is downloading it after xyz of time so we are removing it to save money on storage.

Never buy digital
i remember Capcom taking down marvel vs Capcom 2 from live and psn because of license expiry, i vouched to never buy digital games unless it was an always online game like overwatch

nothing can justify their action for pulling a game, you have the right to own the game you purchase, what was the point of a digital storefront then? most games on physical these days ship with an empty box with a paper that has your download code anyway

go pirate the games you can not legally purchase

There's no such thing, demand will always die down hence why they pull the shit in the first place.

Pisses me off when mainstream games focus more on multiplayer becuase of idiiot kids these days.

You end uo paying near £60, ill guess next gen wimm spike to at least £70 for a basic offlinne campaign and forced multiplayer shit you dont need that will last a few months if you pay more to access.

Id rather go back to the old days.

You bpught a game, got good gamplay and extras for completing.

But bope idiots today ruin that, and what makes it worse, these idiots are kids of parents indly paying for this shit when we used to unlock it.
