Hacking Backup eMMC RAW GPP - screen hangs or backup fails (fail to init sd)

I have followed the github guide to loading cfw and backing up to the letter yet when I use hekate to backup the eMMC RAW GPP it either hangs on a frozen screen or fails (the fail then leads to the nice UI of hekate being replaced by the lo-fi one that fails to mount the sd card at all).

Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated as it seems I'm able to do everything but backup the damn eMMC RAW GPP!

Apologies if I've broken any posting laws, I'm a complete noob who wishes not to offend anyone.

Shouldn't have a problem with hekate as long the card is legit, and have enough space.
I did notice a discrepancy in the github guide when I was using minitool to partition - it says to set GB to MB on Unallocated Space Before/After and not Partition Size yet in the photo provided it is in MB.... Otherwise I'm sure I've got all the sizing correct!

it needs to be 32kb cluster for the switch.

Hekate only supports fat32 with 32kb cluster size or exfat with 128kb cluster size or it will fail to init the sd card.
OK, so, do I need to be using minitool partition wizard to do all the partitioning or can I just format it to fat32 with guiformat and a 32kb cluster?

You can use what ever partition tool you like.
Perhaps because I'd been using a partition tool and the cluster size was default instead of 32kb?

Guiformat doesn't really have all the bells and whistles that minitool has though. The github guide suggests editing the partition size and space whereas guiformat just offers a format.... Just wondering what the best route is.

If you are following a guide then use the tool from the guide.

I guess I'm trying to work out whether the partitioning is necessary or whether I can just do a quick format with guiformat and then load all the necessary files/payloads etc.

I thought eMMC was the preferred option and that the above guide didn't cover putting cfw on the latest update of the switch..

Using emummc is up to your personal preference. And that guide will work on an unpatched switch on any firmware.

If you are not going to use online play (and if your system is unpatched), there is no real reason to use an emuNAND/emuMMC.
Pardon my extreme ignorance but what is the reasoning behind not having emuNAND (and why would the github guide suggest it?)? So, if I'm just wanting to play game dumps is the other guide which uses fusee-gelee the better option?
