Okay. I still have a doubt about this exact same topic.

How should I update everything? I use my sysNand for online play and emuNand for all offline things and tests.

This is what I understood so far, and I think I am correct, and I don't care about burning fuses:

-> Update clean NAND (in my case sysNand) with system settings
-> Update 'dirty' NAND (in my case emuNand) with ChoidujourNX.

But I should update sysNand without CFW, or with CFW (through system settings, is just fine? And at the moment I have a clean emunand, can I update it with system settings without any risk of ban? And if yes, I need to use emunand without CFW or even with CFW would be okay?

All these questions whilst keeping in mind that I don't want to get banned.

I need advice with this. Thank you very much!

Thank you very much!

Updating your emuNAND will not burn fuses. The only thing that can burn fuses is updating your sysNAND without AutoRCM.

Which NAND are you planning on using for legitimate online play, and which NAND are you planning on using for hacks? Using a clean sysNAND that's up to date is recommended for online play.
Is it truly safe to have a sysNAND for online play? I've been thinking of buying a 2nd Switch to try Atmosphere and leave my original Switch just for Online play on all my games. I did not do that with my Wii U or 3DS in the past because there wasn't any risk of getting banned. I haven't been here in a while and it looks like it could be safe, but I don't actually know how likely that is.

Are you using a Patched Switch? Because I don't think there's currently any way for the average user to make a completely "clean" NAND backup on a patched Switch.

Either way, assuming you want to keep sysnand on a low firmware so you can boot CFW without using a jig or payload dongle, you're probably best off with two separate microSD cards. One with a EmuNAND with all of your homebrew, NSPs, etc., and the second with an EmuNAND kept as close to stock as possible.

As long as the sysNAND has never been touched by hacks, and as long as the hacked emuNAND has never connected to the internet (without 90DNS and/or Incognito), then it should be relatively safe to go online with one's clean sysNAND.

@Maluma I would be lying if I said I was happy with your mischaracterizations of my advice as "bad" or "malicious." Your NAND is relatively clean even though you have Fake News installed. If you are paranoid and want to remove Fake News, it is relatively easy to do so. If you require help, feel free to ask for it instead of venting your frustrations with yourself by posting unfounded nonsense about others.

You should update your clean NAND with the system settings. You should update your dirty NAND with ChoiDujourNX.

If you don't care about fuses, then you should never run CFW with your clean NAND.

I followed the guide you told me to follow word for word. You didn't tell me I didn't need the USB-C until after I purchased it and my blog post is not a call out thread.

If you want to use the webkit exploit like o am doing you can't go online since you'll use your emunand updated to latest firmware to run your backups since they won't work on lower firmware. The only way you'll be playing online is by having a clean nand updated to latest since it is quite pointless to use your nand on a lower firmware to play backups since most newer games don't even work on that. So if you choose to still be using the webkit exploit well you technically can use your emunand but you can't run most on your nand so what's even the point then ?

To answer your question, no idea. I had a hard time getting the information since we have some real bullies on this website. I took quite a bit of abuse(mods deleted the post) to get the information I even needed to get myself set up and now that I know the process I could explain it to someone new in about 3 minutes. There is no complexity at all besides some people of below average intellect that chose to gatekeep the information as a means to feel better about themselves. I almost feel like I could write a small guide myself to help everyone out,but it wouldn't get stickied so it would just get lost in the forum anyways.

I responded to the PM you sent me a bit ago, so I'm not going to point out your mistakes here. If you want me (or others) to respond to other requests for help, I suggest you start acting like you want people's help.

Your sysNAND is dirty. If you created your emuNAND after you installed Fake News, or if you've used any hacks on your emuNAND, then your emuNAND is also dirty. If you connect either one to the internet (without using DNS-blocking and/or Incognito), then you might be banned.

If your emuNAND is clean, then it should be relatively safe to connect online with it.

I thought you said my sysnand wasn't dirty over PM?

Personally, I would not go online with Fake News installed to my NAND. However, I'm unaware of anyone ever being banned for having Fake News installed, and the NAND technically isn't dirty since Fake News should be able to be fully removed.

You have a bad habit of not reading my posts:

I don't see any evidence that Fake News has caused any bans, and this is one of the few things that a system reset might remove. If you want to play online with your emuNAND, it should still be relatively safe to do so. However, you cannot use backups with your emuNAND in this scenario, and if you've already used backups with your emuNAND, it's dirty and should not be used online.

For backups, you will either have to use your 4.0.1 sysNAND (not recommended, since a lot of games aren't compatible with 4.0.1) or make a second emuNAND just for backups.
There are also ways to remove Fake News without formatting the system.

just follow logic. Use clean sysnand to play online and use emunand for everything else. how is that hard to understand?
His problem is I expressed concern with getting online with Fake News installed to the emuNAND and sysNAND. I've been trying to tell him that it's probably safe and that Fake News can be removed (in principle, without a trace), but he's more interested in creating blog posts about how I'm a troll who was politically motivated to sabotage his Switch or something.

I will admit I read an older thread from about 2-3 years ago stating that you were a troll. I just don't understand why you tell people that I ignored your advice when I followed the guide that you sent me.

I answered this question in the PM. You made a new thread asking how to use the warmboot browser exploit after I already told you how and gave you the link to a guide, for example.

You said I ignored your advice because I asked you the same question twice, but what lead to my sysnand being potentially dirty is following the guide that you sent me. If I followed the guide you told me to use, that is following your advice correct?

Not only that, but you created a new thread for the second time.

  1. Your NAND is not dirty.
  2. Regardless, you can remove Fake News.
Edit: I've also lost count of how many times I've answered these questions. You're ignoring my posts.

The situation is what it is at this point, I was a bit disappointed that my blog post was removed. You originally said that my sysnand was dirty because of newshax and I have a feeling that nintendo could see that I installed this, I am just a bit sad that my sysnand could be banned if I ever decided to online.

I was a bit disappointed that my blog post was removed.
That's what happens when you:
  1. Call someone out
  2. Misrepresent someone's posts
  3. Say someone was malicious because of political retribution without any evidence
  4. Delete people's posts that don't fit your narrative when they correctly point out your mistakes

You originally said that my sysnand was dirty because of newshax and I have a feeling that nintendo could see that I installed this
  1. If you read my posts, you will see that nobody has been banned for having Fake News installed, as far as I can tell. Your NAND is relatively clean.
  2. If you read my posts, you will also see that Fake News can be removed.
  3. It's your responsibility to keep your NAND clean. If a guide tells you to install NSP files, for example, don't blame the guide or the person who recommended the guide if you go ahead and install NSP files.

I am just a bit sad that my sysnand could be banned if I ever decided to online.
  1. Then you shouldn't have installed Fake News.
  2. You probably won't be banned for having Fake News installed.
  3. You can remove Fake News.
  4. It's hard to have any sympathy for you when you refuse to read any of my posts, mischaracterize my posts, irresponsibly assign malicious political retribution motives to my posts, and delete posts that contradict your narrative.
You're making up a plight, you're incorrectly assigning blame for this fake plight to anyone other than yourself, and you're ignoring that you can fix the fake plight.

Not really, you are just trying to paint yourself like an innocent victim. You recommended the guide and you are telling me that it's my fault that my sysnand is banned, you are right that it is my fault for being naive and trusting you. The reality is that no user would in any circumstance want their sysnand banned. You recommended the guide and I took your advice, for that it is my fault for trusting you. You are saying now that my sysnand isn't dirty because it makes you look bad that you gave me terrible advice.

Trying to compare this to a malicious NSP file is laughable, I followed your advice and ended up with a potentially dirty sysnand and now you are acting like a victim. I understand that you lack the mental fortitude to accept that you gave lead me into this situation, but the evidence is in this thread. I installed fake news because you told me to install fake news, I am in the situation because I decided to take your advice. If it is my fault for thinking a member of the community had my best interest in mind, then yes it is my fault. In this situation I think a non biased party can see that you did indeed recommend a guide in which it tells you to install newsflash before backing up your nand. I could quote the response in which you do so if you would like.

You haven't pointed out one mistake I made here besides following your advice, you keep lying saying that I didn't listen to you but the thread tells a different story. I did follow your advice to a fault, thus I am in this situation.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

If you follow my advice, you will be fine. I can't say anything about the advice of others.

Yes, if you get banned on one, you get banned on the other. The point of an emuNAND is to keep your hacked NAND separate from your clean NAND. For example, if you connect your clean NAND to the internet to play online, Nintendo will not see any of the hacked things you've done, since you hopefully did all of your hackery on the dirty NAND that's kept offline.

No.
  1. Backups online will refuse to work.
  2. If you try, you will be permanently banned.

If you are using backups on an emuNAND, that emuNAND should not be connected to the internet (or the whole system will be banned). In that case, ChoiDujourNX is required.

If you are using online play with an emuNAND, that emuNAND should not be used with hacks like ChoiDujourNX (or the whole system will be banned). In that case, you will need to update officially using the system settings.

No. As I said above, the only thing that can burn fuses is updating your sysNAND without AutoRCM being installed.

I did follow your advice, I followed this guide that you linked on a seperate thread. I am not fine even though I did follow your advice.

https://switch.homebrew.guide/hacking/caffeine/pegascape

You told me that I would be fine if I followed your advice, why are you trying to lie and say that I did not follow your advice? How about you own up to your mistakes like a real man instead of pretending like I disregarded your advice?
