Nintendo offers a vague statement in regards to recent Joy-Con drift issues

While a potential lawsuit brews in the background, Nintendo appears to have taken notice of the recent spike in Joy-Con drift issues. After last week's public reveal of CSK&D investigating potential legal action against the gaming giant, Nintendo has released an official statement on the matter, acknowledging the problem, though not addressing it. When contacted by multiple news outlets, Nintendo responded with the following:

At Nintendo, we take great pride in creating quality products and we are continuously making improvements to them. We are aware of recent reports that some Joy-Con controllers are not responding correctly. We want our consumers to have fun with Nintendo Switch, and if anything falls short of this goal we always encourage them to visit http://support.nintendo.com so we can help.

The company's support page has also been slightly edited, adding a direct link for consumers that are having issues with their Joy-Cons not functioning or responding correctly. It's also now easier to begin the process of sending in your Joy-Cons to be repaired by Nintendo, though this is only in effect for the United States and Canada, currently. Despite Nintendo's answer being vague and ignoring the fact that the Joy-Con drift issues could entirely be their fault, the threat of legal action does seem to have at least caused some effect for the time being.

To be fair they would most likely need to re-engineer the whole joystick to fix this issue which does take time and money

But they also should be a lot more transparent about things. It's not like this is an issue with only a small number of people and the fix is to recall specific batches of joy cons

I'm not defending them of course. They can be handling this a lot better. But things do take time

I'm from Mexico, so this is underwhelming. Fortunately, replacement sticks are cheap, but them will suffer the same fate as the problem is harware-wise that will happen eventually, as explained in the previous thread. I just really hope the lawsuit succeeds so Nintendo is forced to fix the joycon design flaw or replace the sticks with a more reliable variant.

Haha, they didn't respond for ages regarding the joy con drift and kept using cheap ass parts for their overpriced controllers but now that a law suit is brewing they suddenly want you to contact them. To my understanding a lot of people asked Nintendo to repair their Joy cons wich was the fault of Nintendo and they asked an overly high price to fix it instead of giving out a free replacement like it should have been. Oh, Nintendo and the amount of people that will defend and white knight you nonetheless.

I've had three pairs of Joy-Cons at this point, and no drift. I presume I'm just incredibly lucky at this point, though. Regardless of drift, they're built pathetically cheaply for controllers that cost $70.
I have two switch units from launch day without the drift issue either

Seems like we just got lucky. For controllers around this price point it's absurd they they cut corners where they did

They probably already have a new joystick design ready that fixes the drift issue, but are waiting run out the stock of their existing faulty ones before manufacturing the new ones. It's not like they outsource their design work; Nintendo has salaried engineers who can debug/fix the design flaw over lunch. They're just being cheap bastards.

In the same boat here, couple pair with my launch pair having no drift issues. I'd say this comes down to peoples play styles. My launch PS4 controller compared to a few of my friends and their combined dozen or so controllers with drift mine should have mad drift, but I play with it every day with zilly on the drift. Some people play harder than others, especially house holds with children.

those fucking joycons are the worst controller they have ever made worse than the 64 controller even. besides the drift they are so fucking uncomfortable to hold your hands literally ache afterwards if you use them for more than an hour you do not use them for tv play. they are designed for little Japanese girls hands. they saved themselves with the pro con though you just use that and nothing else!

Just for the record, and to add to the issue, I barely used the joycon grip that came with the console, and that was because after a month of use, it started to scratch the right back of the right joycon (red in the neon variant), even it left stains of plastic and scratched the hell out of the grip, now it is even hard to attach the con to the grip. My first guess is that the grip metal rails are so cheap that they bent when the buttons are pressed in the joycons, since that rail is the only support for the force you put with your fingers! And it's out of my mind why the frick they didn't add some sort of soft material to the inside of the grips togive extra support, because it's just plastic that does nothing but scratch the joycons mercilessly.

tl;dr "That's too bad...Be sure to give us $40 to fix it for you!"

I don't have issues with drift myself, but my right joycon slides out of the rail with just a tiny bit of force now. It's a shame Nintendo decided to cut corners or cheap out on their super special amazing controllers, you'd think they'd want one of the core components of the system to, y'know, last more than a couple years before having issues.
