Thank you, yes it is correct. Why did you say that?
XAJ40004 systems are old. Many of them even come with 1.0.0. Considering you said it was on 7.0.0, I figured you had either updated it or you added too many zeroes (it wouldn't be the first time) to the serial number.

Regardless, XAJ40004 is unpatched.

Oh no, it was right. This is second-hand. I bought this in amazon. Maybe that is the reason?

Right - I've finally managed to buy today an unpatched switch with dock etc...just need to order a jig and type C cable.

I do seem to have an issue where disconnecting the joycon instantly says Low Battery, but they don't seem to be charging when I put them back in the unit......anyways that's off topic.

I've checked and its on 8.1.0

Now to do some digging for the relevant and up to date tutorial, but would I be right in thinking Atmosphere would be probably the best cfw to run?

If you don't want to buy a jig, there are other options. I personally prefer the paperclip method.

You only need to enter RCM once to install AutoRCM. With AutoRCM, your Switch will coldboot into RCM each time it's power on after being completely powered off.

Leave the joy cons connected to the Switch while it's docked for awhile. The joy cons won't charge sometimes, depending on the battery level of the Switch itself.

Atmosphere is recommended. It has the most features, and it's updated most frequently.

Thank you, yes I've just set up dock to a temp location, and sitting them in there they appear to be charging now

I paid £200 for the set, including 2 games (MK and Fifa 18) - I so stupidly have realised now that I did not get the bloody controller holder for docked play, nor the end pieces for 2 player mode....arrgghhhhh...I've text him asking if can swing by some point to pick up but he's so slow to reply...so frustrating

Anyways, at least I finally have one.

I looked down the joy con and I can barely even physically see the pins lol. All these videos showing eg foil trick for pins 9 and 10 etc must have superhero vision.

I'm still stuffed not having a type C cable so I'll order that from amazon for delivery on Friday, for a couple of £ more I can get prime on a jig too - £5.50 - a bit over priced but at least it'll come at same time so I can get rock n rolling

In the meantime at least I can hunt out the best current tutorial to follow for atmosphere on 8.1.0 and start downloading the files ready

I'm not so sure whether to use AutoRCM as read there may be some issues if the machine goes completely flat sometimes

The paperclip method is nice because, if you're using the correct size and you bend it to the given specifications, it should fit nicely like a jig without you having to even look at the pins. However, I don't believe the paperclip method should be used often, and I only recommend it if the goal is to install AutoRCM.

AutoRCM is relatively safe. If the battery completely dies with AutoRCM installed, it just might take awhile for it to trickle charge enough to re-enter RCM. If you keep the Switch in sleep mode when you're not using it, you are unlikely to run into any issues using AutoRCM.

If you're content using a jig each time you want to re-enter RCM, then it doesn't really matter.

sorry guys, i have one last question: i am buying a used swtich with the serial XAJ40007 etc, so it should be hackable by the serials that appears in the first post. Problem is that the seller said that he played fortnite on it, and updated it till march of this year. he then proceeded to format the unit, but i suppose the firmware is still updated. he does not know where to check the firmware. is it safe to buy it for modding it? or the firmware might be too high?

The firmware doesn’t matter for unpatched Switches.
