That really suck, you can try to find precision kit in your local area, it doesn't have to be ifixit brand.
I bought a kit from amazon. Literally nowhere in New Zealand has it besides some imported $60 ifixit kits on auction sites.

And after buying it I fixed my 2DS by draining the battery and recharging it (wasn't detecting charge correctly and would stay blinking red even though there was hours of charge, locking me out of system updates and consequently the eshop), so now I've spent the money I wanted to spend on the eshop this week on some screwdrivers I don't need.

nope, 3DS and Joycons need a different sized one. those ones just munt the screw because they don't fit properly
You didn't mention anything about Joy-cons, just the n2DSXL. The n2DSXL requires Tri-Y Y00 screwdriver when disassembling the shell while the other 3DS/2DS models use Philips PH00.

I would assume that listing and similar ones like it with high number of sold screwdrivers would be the correct one for the n2DSXL. If not, it's $1.

No, thats for screws that the Wii, GBC etc use. It's a different size and depth. I've already tried using one and damaged the screws.

There the fat rubber band trick for extra grip if the stripping isn't severe. Using a sized up screwdriver hardly ever works.

Once your screws are stripped and nothing else works, the only way to take them off is to drill past their heads.
Here are replacement screws:

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
