I feel like I should really start a conversation on this, especially since we now know the Switch Lite is a real thing now. Some of them made sense like the rumors claiming the switch mini was gonna be smaller, built in joy-cons, undockable, etc. However, now there are these rumors that were made just a few days ago. Such as people claiming the switch mini is gonna be more powerful than the normal Nintendo Switch. Something about the Google Stadia needing a more powerful switch leak report or whatever. They claimed it would be more powerful than the normal switch, but what really got me thinking it was fake was the switch lite would reportedly have a 1080p screen. What sense does that make to have a 1080p screen on a smaller screen when the regular switch only has a 720p screen. I don't think nintendo would do that just to inflate the price, right? Anyway what do you guys think, sorry for rambling, but I was really curious.

ok.
the power is maybe because earlier the switch pro (which isnt offical) and the switch mini got leaked at the same time
and i guess people think:
ok this is the new switch maybe they merged both.

and so they think it will be more powerful but i wouldnt know if nintendo claimed this.

then 1080p good idea but well a other display is now not too expensive the most money from the switch is however still joycons dock and every accessories.
so the real switch tablet is like we see in ebay only around 160 Euro worth and a better display at top of it would be possible to get directly on 200.
but this is speculation

You're assuming the regular switch will continue to be sold. The rumoured "switch pro" will probably replace it.

But that doesn't make it more or less of a rumour of course.

This is my thought as well.

OP, Look to the DS and DSlite for comparison. My guess is the switch mini will be used to continue their current chip contract and use up all that hardware, and maybe slightly newer/shinier hardware for the switch pro. All software/hardware will be backward compatible, the goal is probably to make it run smoother and be better designed. But it's all speculation.

I would say that the switch mini/lite would certainly be less powerful, as they wouldn't be able to fit more proccessing power into the tiny lad.

I dont think I was confusing the switch mini with the switch pro, that or i misread something from this forbes page. It literally has switch mini plastered all over it and claims all the things ive looked into it. https://www.forbes.com/sites/tiriasresearch/2019/07/03/google-stadia-needs-the-new-nintendo-switch/

Also (Sorry for double posting) I really don't think the regular switch would discontinue if a theoretical Switch Pro was to release. The DS/3DS line is a perfect example (I think) to contradict these statements, The 3DS line had like about 5/6 different variants, compared to the switch's 2 (rumored 3) models. The reason the DS's lines had a few models discontinued, it was because you could probably get a better version of it for relatively the same price as the original version once retailed for. Along with the 3DS doing the same thing, at launch the 3DS sold for 250 (I think), then cut price to 170 (iirc). Now since the 2DS is a dirt cheap alternative, along with new 3DS XL's dropping considerably to less than what the original 3DS could sell for at launch. Basically what i mean to say is, where the DS/3DS had a ton of models and kinds to fall back on so they didnt need to have 6 different kinds in production at once, the switch should only have these 3 kinds, and thus only need to worry about keeping these lines in production. This should be even less of a problem since the 3DS should be completely ending it's life cycle since there isn't really a need to buy a New in package "New" 3DS any more when you can buy a switch lite for the same price. Again, sorry for this really big cluster of word vomit. I just have a really bad time explaining things briefly.

I thought the whole reason for the new models is that the regular switch uses a cpu that is on an older, more expensive and more power hungry process.

We don't actually know what the "switch pro" will be called, if it's just better battery life then it might just be sold as "switch".

https://www.theverge.com/circuitbre...h-update-fcc-change-cpu-nvidia-tegra-soc-nand

The rumour is that there will be three models, but that doesn't make sense to me.

But then the switch lite is a weird name as it no longer switches.

Well that I didn't know about, I thought it was just because.

I don't understand how this has article has gained so much traction. It's an opinion peice about how Google Stadia should come to Switch. The author then goes on to mention what he believes that the new Switch device will feature presumably based on rumours he's seen or more likely has been too lazy to bother to properly read the rumours and has just pulled them out of his arse.

The fact that he didn't bother to even do basic research the rumours about the mini (lite) device should give the article less credibility, not more. But a bunch of websites and YouTubers took it out of context, blew it all out of context and reported it as if the guy has some sort of inside knowledge, rather than the reality of him simply being a lazy, uninformed journalist

When you say the lite is more powerful, we're talking fractions of a tiny amount. Minutes of additional battery life because of a more efficient chip, milliseconds of faster load times.

The component changes won't be noticeable for anyone.

The smaller screen using less battery, that's gonna make a difference you'll notice, but you won't have botw or binding of Isaac running better or anything.

1 thing to be asked that isn't yet is will the firmware for the unit be identicle to the old school switch and if so which version will the launch units have on them? if not what are the differences going to be other than the obvious.... my biggest question is could the coffee expoit threw the news feed in thory be launched successfully as without pin 1 & 10 there's no jig possibility. I doubt they will come shipped with firmware as low as 4.1 but I think in time coffees exploit could go higher on the firmwares it works on... I have swcowered the net looking for debut firmware version details but have no info just basic stuff revealed to the masses that's helps me 0 if I have to just be patient I will but figured i'd ask in case someone heard something. I am interested in getting a lite and if the exploit is usable like on the patched old units then i'll be very pleased. I altready own a old sckool switch that isn't banned, honestly docking it aint realy a big deal as I have a 4ktv so you can see the scalling. and the switch pro rumors I believe will be false to get tru unscaled 4k from a device at 60+fps that small is unachievable without game streaming services. a 2080 barely can do it on a pc without taering….

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

also I belive there may be network pc hacks to comedown the pipes in time that will allow streaming the switch lite to a pc so in a sence it would be docked.... they did it with the 3ds I have high hopes..... and don't wanna say the switch lite is dead out of the water and completely unhackable….. I mean it was quite a while then the spo called patched units where exploitable too.

If I don't get an aswere about firmware version doesn't matter really I will still get 1 I am in the process of preordering 1 in the next couple days. if by the 20th of sept no one still knows and I get mine I will give all details to aid the hb community :) cheers

They’ll probably come with 8.x (maybe 7.x on older ones) the lowest firmware usable on retail Mariko is 6.x, I doubt they’ll come with that though. it won’t really matter though.

I don't think you understand the concept of Deja Vu and every other currently known (public or private) method of loading custom payloads/custom code on a Mariko unit is not possible. HOS is extremely secure, and Nvidia most likely won't make the same mistake three times.

So the idea of a Mariko unit being hacked is great, but it's not possible at this time. No current or old method would work. They were all fixed.

:( that really bursts my bubble... I still want one though and have hopes of maybe a web exploit if webkit is still on the unit and browsing is enabled or hidden. i'm not ready to throw in the towel
It'll have the browser, and it'll probably be exploitable. But just a browser exploit doesn't get you much
