Today it looks like Microsoft has begun testing out the new Xbox Game Pass for PC service having an introductory price of $1 and then $4.99/month thereafter. However after some review it looks like Microsoft has secret plans to introduce their famously known Xbox Live Gold service to the PC gaming industry. This was seen on the bottom of the page where it talks about Xbox Game Pass for PC Ultimate and it mentions "Xbox Live Gold included". This hints the possibility of Xbox Live Gold coming to PCs.

That's what i'm wondering. And why merge it all? In fact...if they are going to merge it all then that's another hint to the service possibly joining the PC gaming industry.

Xbox Live Gold was on the PC in the past, back in the Vista days... you had to have a Gold subscription to play Games for Windows Live games online, just like on the Xbox. Needless to say it didn't go down too well and Xbox Live gold was eventually dropped as a requirement to play online.

Is it possible they are attempting to bring it back then? I mean I didn't even know it was on the PC in the past

It's possible, or it could be a benefit of subscribing to game pass on the PC, you get Xbox Live Gold for your Xbox at no extra cost.

Microsoft are a cloud services company these days, Office 365 along with many of their business orientated products like Exchange, SharePoint and even Windows 10 Enterprise can be superscribed to on a monthly basis. With that in mind its more than possible Xbox Live Gold could be a future offering on the PC, although i'd hope not as it won't go down well with a lot of PC gamers who are finally happy to have the likes of Halo on the PC again.

And that's the odd part. What if you don't have an Xbox? Then that part of the pass would be pointless. They have to be up to something. They could lose millions on gold or just have false subscriber numbers just by too many people buying the pass but not having an Xbox.

There is a separate "PC gamepass" subscription without any gold - the "Ultimate gamepass" is the bundle where you get both PC and XBox Gamepass and Xbox live is thrown in for free.

So yes, it is pointless for PC owners - maybe you got confused because the cheapest way to get PC gamepass was the deal to actually buy Live months at discount and then convert it to Ultimate.

Making Xbox live gold a small part of this bundle could actually make it possible for Microsoft to back out of the Gold requirement and make online free for the next generation,
it was a painful threshold to pay for when getting into consoles but the gamepass deals has been great all along.

They'll never do this. Having to back track on it the first time was an embarrassment, they wont put themselves through it again. As mentioned the Ultimate Pass is for people who have and use both an Xbox and PC and next year Scarlet. The only reason most people have ultimate now is that there was(still is?) and offer to cheaply upgrade a normal gold or game pass sub to ultimate.

There is no story here. GamePass Ultimate exists as a digital subscription service and adding PC Game Pass is part of their efforts in "Play where you want, on what you want". This isn't Xbox Live coming to PC (hell, what makes up Xbox Live is already there?). This is akin to saying an Xbox app on Windows 10 must mean you can play Xbox on PC.

It still is a story as they could allow people to purchase just Xbox Live Gold as its own thing for PC

But they wont, they already tried that and it failed miserably. You're reading far too much into the bundle. It's just for people who want everything, across both platforms.

Just another case of people taking stuff out of context again. It clearly says PC and console games.

No they aren't. The ultimate game pass simply includes PC and Xbox game pass, and Xbox Gold for consoles. They're not making gold a requirement for PC online. They already tried that years ago, and it fell flat on its face.
