Nintendo has updated the Wii U firmware to 5.5.4

You thought it was dead, but the Nintendo Wii U lives on. Following an update that initially was just for European regions, the update is also supposedly to be made available in North American and Japan, according to patch notes. However, currently, Nintendo of America's site does not note any new firmware revisions, nor do we know if the update will actually come to non-EU systems. At this point, we have no idea what 5.5.4 changes, besides standard stability. The last time we saw an update for the Wii U was all the way back in September 2018, for version 5.5.3 which was yet another stability update. If you still value using your Wii U, you might want to wait on updating, to see what this changes in terms of homebrew.

  • Version number: 5.5.4
  • Release date: June 24th 2019 (North America) / June 25th 2019 (Europe, Japan)
  • Regions: Europe / North America / Japan
  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

The following titles were updated: VersionData, and Wii U Menu.

Total titles sizes: 102482052

SOAP TitleHash: 0B1C2469FA99869CFFD6642AD035D006

Title info:

meanwhile tried to search a match on MK8 and no one can be found: this proves no one plays wiiu online anymore
Don't know if this is a joke or not, but just in case if it isn't. To get around the issue, I had to lower the VR score to find people 50,000 (0xC350) should do the trick. Best time to change the score is when you at the online menu where your score is displayed, then change it and go through the character selection screen and what not. If done right and you're in the room with people, then your VR should revert to original value, but should go ahead and copy the original value before poking the new value just in case.

why would it? the limit is there to maintain stability.
maybe they realized that some players cant buy stuff off the eshop because they didn't have space to put it? plus the thing had 2 gigs of ram, and it wouldn't lose stability over 300 small thumbnails in memory, lets do the math : so 300 * 64 kb tga files with 1 ko of meta data each, thats 19 MB in 1gb of usable ram.

What's the difference between cold haxchi and normal haxchi?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I also played on my Wii U today and it did not update. Is this only a European thing?

Does this 5.5.4 update cover the UK I have looked on Nintendos official .co.uk wiiu update list web page but it mentions nothing about the new firmware 5.5.4? Only lists the latest as 5.5.2.

Yes. Mine updated last night. Relaunched the "don't touch me" CBHC icon after update and then the homebrew CBHC installer to restore 'hax' to normal.
Non CBHC haxchi users should be unaffected - just launch your haxchi app as per normal.

Thanks for confirming. Nintendo are not very good at keeping there .co.uk site updated, it still only mentions 5.5.2E for the WiiU as the latest firmware update. I was going to update my wiiu yesterday by spoofing it but I left it in the end until today I just checked the main web site just to be sure for the uk but it never mentioned a 5.5.4 update then I was confused.

I also checked the different Nintendo website variants. I found nothing about 5.5.4.
How can people mention 5.5.4 news and end the post with some link called "official source..." There's no official source!

I think someone mimic the system update link and released a 5.5.4 not official update....!

It doesn't work like that. Nintendo of Europe probably forgot to update the website or they were too lazy. It happens from time to time.
