This post severely hurt my dyslexic brain. I haven't a clue what half of it said.

Only the sentence talking about the Seafarer's Expansion is in Pirate. The rest is in Ye Ol' English.
Whatever it is its near unreadable for severely dyslexic people like myself. Also doesn't help that English is my second language withGaelic being my main language lol.

Can somebody translate it into proper English for me or at a push American English :rofl2:

Old game coming back with new content. So give me money for it or you don’t get to play it.

Well that gives me all the info I need thanks. To be honest I have never heard of the game before.
It’s apparently a million seller board game that won multiple awards I have never heard about either.

If it causes families to choke each other like Monopoly then I might consider it.

The teach dead languages as first languages up there? I at least learned Latin as a second (or third actually) language. They are fun I guess but as a first language seems a bit silly.

(Settlers of) Catan is a board game. It (along with the Carcassonne game mentioned up above) is generally considered on of the purer board games, and thing people tend to graduate to once they have stopped playing the typical (and hideously broken) board games like Risk, Monopoly, Cluedo and so forth. For my money it is still a bit flawed compared to some of the best options in board games but not at the same time not unenjoyable, and does make a great stepping stone to them; throw someone that is used to monopoly into a hardcore game of agricola, tigris and euphrates or general "German board games" and they will get nowhere fast, this however can be picked up fairly easily while still having some room for mastery.

Back on the DS and for XBLA and PSN we saw some computer versions of it (weren't the first but might as well have been, which for a popular game that had been around since 1995 is quite shocking). The DS version was a bit weak for me but the XBLA version was great (don't know about the PSN version) and it became something of a staple there for a lot of people. Along with Bomberman Live it was certainly a reason to consider XBLA back then when it was otherwise the domain of PopCap Games, the token port of Doom and a few emulators.

I'm originally from Harris in the Outer Hebrides where Gaelic is still primarily used. I only really started to properly learn English in my early 20s when I escaped the islands and moved to the main land.

Pretty sweet to see this. While there are IMHO better virtual board games out there, I won't deny that this is a classic that deserves to be played.

My own extended opinion on catan can be found here, by the way. :)

Fair enough. Mainly only met those from the Inner Hebrides (so much so that I wondered if Skye sent out a raiding party and they could not be arsed to go back) and while they might have known a few words... yeah, and this started in the 80s and early 90s and included quite a few then older people. Didn't know the Outer Hebrides clung on so much.

Is this really front page material?
The language or the game? I can dismiss the former as a stylistic choice but the latter... yeah it is a pretty popular board game and the computerised versions of it have historically done pretty well both as versions of that and games in their own right, and could well be said to fill a niche on the Switch that is not that well filled here.
