Switch firmware update 8.1.0 out now

kZwtFIN.png

Do you like stability? Because Nintendo likes stability! Once more, we have a brand new firmware update for the Nintendo Switch, bringing the console's firmware up to 8.1.0, as of today. It's been a few months since the last update, 8.0.1, though this one only brings stability to the table. If you're worried about any potential issues in regards to what this firmware does under the hood, then make sure to not update until proper sources figure out what this one does.

SX V2.7.1 EmuNand (SD Files / CFW <= 8.0.1) works with OFW 8.1.0

In case the above post gets buried among the bickering and hate/love for TX SXOS.

I can also confirm for those who have EmuNand setup on 8.0.1 FW, using SXOS v2.7.1 Beta, you can safely update your SysNand to 8.1.0 FW and will still be able to boot into your EmuNand.

Same for atmos and no surprise at all. I don't think that there is any (legal) way for nintendo to patch that.

I don't know what on board devices are flashable, other than the card reader. They could play games with making the switch only run well on one or the other FW.

Based on the sheer amount of stability put into it, presumably this update ups the required fuses burnt for said issued frmware to be run I suppose.
Could someone more acquainted with the switch hacking and homebrew scene step in and shed some light upon it. Regardless I see no reason so myself of doing and update. Therefore I will stick to the 7.0.1 update(least said for now),not to mention how the TSEC keys need to be decrypted for atmosphere to be rendered in a functional state on the latest firmware.

until someone tries it and confirms, there is a 50/50 chance SX OS v2.71 will not boot under OFW 8.1.0 - though it it probably best to wait until 8.1.0 support is officially announced.

As @gizmomelb said, it's 50/50, but more likely SXOS CFW will NOT boot in 8.1.0 because of they updated the TSEC firmware, the master keys, etc.. For now stay on 8.0.1 if you want to continue to use your SXOS CFW. Alternatively, you can create a EmuNand now and then update your OFW to 8.1.0, moving forward, depending how you use your Switch, if you don't go online, then use EmuNand for all your pirate stuff. If you need to go online, just boot into your OFW, not sure how clean your OFW is now since your using SXOS CFW, you might be flagged for ban if you do go online.

It's funny to know as a fact that Ninty have employees who have profiles on gbatemp and other forums to help patch the exploits.

Stability jokes are funny, but not 4 pages funny.

Nice to see work is quickly being made on 8.1.0 though.
Granted it'll likely be a while before there's a reason to update to it.

Isn't SXOS going to need another few weeks to hack Scries' hack? Slowing down that scene is probably worth it to Nintendo alone...
Unless they have a private hack for deriving the new keys needed, probably.
Though it sounded like SciresM was going to update Sept so glitching it would be harder.

Defenitely hahaha, and if caught, they get unbanned by claiming it was extra work they wanted to do at home lol

Or just say you got a recent memo from Doug Bowsers son himself, Bowser jnr, requesting conclusive information gathered on the latest stability update. Needless to say your tests via running custom firmware are currently inconclusive and you will need more time before you release your report.

Yours Truly Nintendo
