Hi guys

I have a New 3DS
Luma CFW (I don't remember which version) with B9S
System Version 11.5.0-38U

Questions:

1) Can I update the console directly to latest firmware (11.10.0)? Or do I need to do something before?
2) My Luma CFW is probably outdated. I don't quite remember how to update it manually, does the homebrew Luma Updater still work?
3) I know Freeshop does not work anymore. However, is still safe playing online?
4) Is there any new feature/stuff/homebrew in the scene?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome back!

#1) Freeshop is dead (RIP my love)
Any titles you have from freeshop 'could' be risky to use moving forward.
- You should download JKSM and backup any important save files.
- Delete the title and ticket of your freeshop games using FBI
- Reinstall the games using FBI .. you will need the 3ds cia files for the specific games.

( i'm not sure if i can link where to find these pirated files but GOOGLE is your best friend .. first result if you got my hint )

**apparently Nintendo may now using the same piracy detection for 3ds that they use to ban switches, so this is just what I did to be safe **

- once you have your games reinstalled, just use JKSM to restore your saves

Update: I was wrong about this one.
------------------------------------------------------

#2 Open your luma update app and install the latest version ( i think it's v9.1 )
after this your should be able to update to the latest firmware.

-online play works fine

--------------------------------------------------------

#3 There's always new homebrew coming out but I've listed some of the app that I personally use in -> THIS THREAD HERE <-

Thanks for your reply! I am very glad for your help.

The only problem is to remember which games I downloaded from Freeshop. I think the only way is to delete all of them.

Instead of jksm i suggest using checkpoint as a save manager

Fake news, no need to uninstall and reinstall any title

Nothing too significant happened after the discovery of sighax (and the creation of its major implementations):
- agbfirm (the GBA virtualizer) was discovered to do, in fact, support Flash 128KB saves and real time clock (therefore you will likely want use New Super Ultimate Injector to convert GBA games)
- all unofficial commercial title downloaders were broken (not just freeshop) and nobody attempted to fix them yet (which would require creating a ticket exchange, not just a titlekey one)
- titledb, the .cia homebrew catalogue, closed and got TinyDB as its spiritual successor
- nds-bootstrap (a software virtualizer allowing physical DS game backups to run from the console's SD) went from a proof of concept to being quite acceptable, but is still no match (in compatibility and to a lesser extent performance) for a proper DS flashcard
- perhaps the most "appealing" news is frogminer (a new approach to DSiware-based softmodding)... but all consoles on all versions, including no version (damaged operating system) became moddable when ntrboot was released, so it mostly appeals to people too cheap to buy a flashcard :P

I have some games from freeshop and I didn't get banned and didn't have any issues with them

Parden my misinformation then, these were the steps I personally took during the 2018 11.8 Banwave as I was seeing posts of freeshop users being banned. If you don't need to uninstall your games then please don't.:grog:

Thank you for all replies! I just updated Luma for the latest and I now I am thinking to update B9S. Not sure if this one is in the latest version.

Also, I have some games displaying updates are available. In the past I used to update them with no problem, directly from Nintendo's server/E-shop. Is still safe to do it?

Thanks one more time.

There's no risk (if you don't pay your internet by the megabyte), at worst the installation will fail
Read this to learn more: https://gbatemp.net/threads/11-8-cias-and-game-updates.517157/ - tldr you'll have to uninstall your unofficially installed update and its matching ticket, before you can install it the official way - and some digital-only titles do not have a separate update pack so your problem finding it unofficially :)

Got it. It is gonna be hard find its ticket number by each title, can I just go to the FBI, go into ticket, and delete all of them? I mean, the tickets are only used to download the games from e-shop, right?

Tickets are also licenses required to use the title - if you removed every single ticket you'd be left with a completely empty home screen
(if you removed every single update ticket, you'd have apparently no update pack installed but they'd still use space on the SD)

Use the Titles feature of FBI2 to remove titles (with their name visible) and their ticket, or remove the updates the official way then use FBI2 to delete only the red (unused) tickets

It worked! Thanks a lot.

And about the extra data of some titles? Can I leave them as they are? No need to delete and install again?

Extra data is not something you install - it's an encrypted archive the app creates (on SD) when run and does whatever it wants with it (compare with the "save" which for physical games is stored on the gamecard instead of the SD)
