Microsoft has given us the official unveiling of the Xbox Project Scarlett, their next gen console. It’s set for launch Holiday 2020, and will be “4x” faster than the Xbox One. Will utilize the power of the cloud. Phil Spencer claims that it will have 120hz support and up to 8K resolution. Halo Infinite will be a launch title.

I don't. NVidia has nothing new on the horizon and AMD only has Navi up their sleeve as far as GPU's go. As I said, you need two RTX 2080's to match the performance of the GPU alone, and that's $2000 right there - you still have to build the rest of the system. A price drop of $1500 would be... Unprecedented, to say the least - the claims are just exaggerated or they're using an arbitrary metric for performance, which is fine as long as the actual spec is acceptable. I'll be happy with 10 TFLOPS, a modest increase from 6 that would enable stable 4K and somewhat acceptable 8K in less demanding applications.

amd has the Vega 64 released in 2017, its 12 teraflops and you can buy one right now for about $350us

Amd has already matched the 2080 with the Radeon 7. Radeon 7 has 13 terflops, navi i below that, and they are still using radeon7 as their flagship because its the king of bitcoin mining. Its perfectly doable in 18 months. They can sell at a loss and makeup with up their online services.

That checks out for me, TBH.
I use my 27" 4K monitor 55cm away from my eyes (just measured), and I usually sit some 2m away from my 55" 4K TV.

I guess some people like to sit farther away?

well they won't see the 4k and i can vouch for this because when i 1st got mine i was sitting at the 1080p mark about 3-4m and i couldn't tell the difference between 4k! i didn't know you have to sit closer for 4k with 1080p it was the complete opposite.

I usually sit between 1 or so meter from my PC monitor, it's 1080p, *shrug* but for TVs, maybe 2-3 m tops, maybe 4, depends on where I sit, and 4K is nice, but it's too much money for me.

And yes I use meters because I like metric more.

It's also a bit of a waste of time, but fair enough - we're still talking about $700 for just the GPU, you need to build the rest of the console. I sincerely doubt Navi comes anywhere close to a 100% increase in performance, and that'd still be in the high end of the spectrum, not on an APU. I don't know what you're arguing here, exactly - the specs suggested by the team are unrealistic either way. You have to look at the Ryzen line-up if you want to deduce what the likely scenario is going to be.

lol, the switch struggles with current gen titles. Imagine when scarlet and ps5 launch, no way they will able to get the games running on a switch unless they do a severe abortion to their games.

If nintendo doesnt launch a powerful enough switch revision or a brand new device, say good bye to third parties. The leap on power will be significantly inmense starting next year.

3rd party games for Nintendo consoles don't sell hardware. Everyone knows you buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo exclusives. You get a Pc, Xbox, PlayStation for AAA games. Not to mention this, GameCube was in competition with PS2 & Xbox. Wii was in competition with PS3 & 360. Wii u was in competition with PS4 & Xbox1. What I'm getting at is, Nintendo consoles do not have the same life span that Sony & Microsoft consoles have. Which means Nintendo will most likely be launching an entirely new console soon & the switch will be seen as the 3DS replacement.
