Microsoft has given us the official unveiling of the Xbox Project Scarlett, their next gen console. It’s set for launch Holiday 2020, and will be “4x” faster than the Xbox One. Will utilize the power of the cloud. Phil Spencer claims that it will have 120hz support and up to 8K resolution. Halo Infinite will be a launch title.

I've been down on Xbox One the last few years but it does have a few gems. Gears 4, Gears 5 (soon), Ori and the Blind Forest, another Ori coming next year. The Forza games.

I don't believe Xbox One is not cracked because hackers don't want to. I just don't buy that they cracked total shit like N-Gage. Everything practically has been cracked except the Xbox One except for PS4 past 5.05. It'll probably eventually be cracked, but I wouldn't expect any fast crack for Scarlett.

From what I've gotten the cloud isn't required; the console is able to run the games on it's own without it.

Supposedly that's only the El Cheapo Diablo Edition of the system. The more expensive, standardly priced (for a new console) will be able to play games on the console itself as long as the game is downloaded. Or did you mean to refer to the console not having a physical means of playing games?

While I agree that it'd be nice to have a physical way to play games, given how game discs (and some cartridges on the Switch) are literally just the equivalent of CD-Keys that require Day 1 Patches and in some cases some Always Online connectivity (which would be Adam Orth's wet dream), I could easily see them trying to do away with them again considering how similar their hype playbook comes off compared to the Xbox One's launch campaign that Microsoft never recovered from outside of offering better online services than Sony (and Nintendo, though that's to be expected considering how facepalm-worthy Nintendo has been on that front for three consoles in a row), if we're gonna be honest here.

As for me. this will probably the first gen i will not be buying the games nor the consoles.... Cloud streaming = giving your last remaining rights as a consumer when it comes to games.

I will probably just stick with current consoles and everything before it. Plenty of beautiful games to be enjoyed.
I was hoping microsoft pulled a 360 (heh, get it?) from current generation and trends...looks like they are doubling down. More power to them.

I grew up with unlockables, extra characters when games were finished and midnight game releases that were stable on day 1 on the disc they were imprinted in. Most people dont mind those things being gone but i personally dont recognize this industry anymore.
If Sony pulls something similar it looks like the switch may be my last console i buy.

that was the context though. the xbox one x is a piece of garbage. Its being completely cpu bottlenecked so the rx580 is really running like a rx 570 on that console. The difference between a rx580 and a rtx2070(rumored comparison) is that rx580 does 1080p/60fps-1440p/45fps-2160p-35f and 2070 does 1080p/120-1440p/60fps-2160p/45f on Ultra. xb1x does 1080/60 on medium

The "x4" claim has to be a gross exaggeration. The Xbox One X pushes 6 TFLOPS FP32, if you multiply that by four, you get 24 TFLOPS. An RTX 2080, a four-figure GPU from NVidia, who are known for beating AMD on the GPU market, pushes 13.45 TFLOPS FP32. You'd need two of the most powerful consumer cards on the market to match that performance, and there is no way you can put this much compute power on an APU. I sniffed out the fishy when Nintendo said the Switch pushes 1 TFLOP, and I'm smelling fish now. Unless the thing is powered by fairies, it's physically impossible. Maybe they added the magical power of the cloud into the equation, which means nothing since we've heard that before in regards to the Xbox One. I'm waiting to see the APU die, until then all they say is gibberish.

Exactly my thoughts - would be awesome if the next xbox would be able to handle 4k@60fps but even that is to be doubted.

yeah xbox even this gen wanted to go all digital and streaming, and everyone is making streaming services, well nintendo is old school so nintendo will probably never enter into streaming only mode, but sony already said PS5 has a disc drive so there is physical releases for ps5 atleast, if xbox becomes driveless then good ridance for store promotions.

I tried to play Witcher 3 but due to bad internet I sold it weeks after without playing it. It installed like 1 hour and updated 1 week. Just to push another update which would download another week... Omg.. That console sucks if you have bad internet.

i completely agree. It comes down to how much the thing will be priced 18 MONTHS from now. Probably close to $500. So althoug i agree, i expect the prices of the components qto have dropped by a lot by Holiday 2020
