Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 has received a completed English fan translation

Before Fire Emblem: Three Houses releases later this year, it might be a good time to go back and revisit some of the older titles in the series. Especially the Japan-only Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 for the Super Famicom, as the game has just received a brand new completed fan-translation. Those familiar with Thracia 776 will likely know that an existing fan-translation has already been around for quite a while, and while it was usable, there were a few mistakes and quirks here and there. Project Exile, the new fan-translation team, decided to redo the script and all dialogue, creating an incredibly faithful and accurate “localization”. The newly-released patch is complete, and allows the game to be played in English from start to finish. Included in the release, which can be found in the source below, is the patch, as well as a video guide explaining the process of patching your ROM file.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 is the fifth Fire Emblem game, and released in 1999, making it the final official physical Super Famicom game. It takes place as a side story to Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, though you can play it without prior knowledge. Thracia 776 is notable for its heavy focus on story and high difficulty curve compared to other entires in the franchise.

Not for the faint of heart. This game is reputed to be brutally difficult; the most punishing in the series. You will need to work some dark magic to make it though this one and keep your sanity.

*dies from the first enemy*

So... more than Nes Earthbound (Earthbound Zero) levels of hard? That one required you to level grind before even leaving your house and when you finally left you had to stay close to it to level grind even more since you needed the healing badly.

Oof. Sounds like the default difficulty is locked to Insane.

I thought this was already translated years ago?

Still, damn. Just to think how far we've come in terms of being able to play games without having to learn a new language. The work of so many like Aeon Genesis for SNES, Gemini, and those working on games like Yakuza Ishin!, Persona 2 Eternal Punishment for PSP, the first Yakuza Black Panther game (a spin-off duology starring a new protagonist who has never appeared in the main games AFAIK), and those working on translating the Front Mission (am I the only one who's heard of this series? Almost no one ever talked about these games until that Left Alive game came out) games that never got released over here need all the help they can get. The only reason Front Mission 2 is playable in anyway is that, unfortunately, they stopped work on providing a complete translation and translated the battle sections, but put the rest (where most of the story and dialogue takes place) into a .txt file it was that difficult for them to work on before they decided to switch gears to Front Mission Alternative (essentially Front Mission Zero chronology-wise).

Hell, Gemini might need the most help out of them all, as he's working on that Resident Evil 1.5 Restoration Project (or, at least, I haven't heard anything explicit about a cancellation, that's for sure, and the main thread on The Horror is Alive hasn't been posted to for about a month now) that Team IGAS started on before the project essentially hit a giant brick wall before switching to his Squeeze Bomb engine. Not really translation work, but it's still a work that requires a lot of programming knowledge in regards to the console you're porting a game, especially to get it working on a PS1 like it was originally meant to, which is where the majority of the work seems to go towards!

I always thought genealogy was harder. Especially if you don't breed effectively.

Just imagine these games remade nowadays (without a bunch of people who won't buy a Fire Emblem game or even a video game to begin with ruining the original game for all regions, I might add). I can imagine the fan projects if it were moddable like Smash Brawl was...

From what I've seen, it plays a bit like a ROMHack. There's stuff in here you wouldn't dream of seeing in a modern title, like enemy dancers

Bullshit! Majima Everywhere features Goro Majima using his Breaker style from Yakuza 0 to attack Kiryu later on in the game!

I've always been curious about the Yakuza games and this is intriguing me even more...

I'd start with Yakuza 0. You don't have to have played any of the previous games to play it. Kiwami is, for better or for worse, a budgeted remake of the original that uses Zero's gameplay, and they expect you to be familiar with it. I'd truly play the series in order if I were you, something that's more possible these days, especially if you already own a PS3 and can play Yakuza 3-5 (the 5th game being digital only unfortunately, but at least it made it over here to the west)!

i've beaten this game and i found it a challenge but not hard just a case of you using your brain to think up tactics the enemy won't think up but one tip is get the "Pugi" for Orsin. but don't rely on it too much as it does have it's limits.

I hope there's a new Advance Wars. Sadly if it were to be created, it would be for the switch. the switch is still overpriced after 2 years.
The Wii was $249 at launch in 2006, which in 2019 dollars would be $317.87

The N64 was $199 at launch in 1996 which in 2019 dollars would be $407.54

In fact if you adjust all the consoles for inflation the switch is the most affordable in USD.

The Switch isn't overpriced, we're just suffering from old man syndrome. "In my day you could buy a gallon of gas for a nickel and an old shoelace."

Your prices are kind of irrelevant. Throw inflation out the window. The price to produce a Wii or N64 in today's age would be less than $50.
