L4T Lakka Switch - now with audio and Vulkan

Lakka Switch, L4T edition
I am proud to finally release the L4T version of Lakka Switch!
New kernel, new logo, new drivers, audio... everything is fresh and clean.

Did I mention Rayman 3 was full speed on Dolphin? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

General system updates
  • New Linux kernel and underlying operating system, based on Linux4Tegra and Jetson Nano drivers
    • mainline kernel has been deprecated
    • system features should now be on par with the L4T Ubuntu distribution, except for dock support
    • Bluetooth was lost in the battle and needs some rest to come back stronger
  • aarch64 is now the default and mainly supported architecture
    • arm has been deprecated since L4T doesn't support it
  • New logo made with the help of jaames and the R:S community
New features and improvements
  • Audio now works through the internal speakers and headphones
  • The new GPU driver supports both Vulkan and OpenGL
  • RAM is now locked at full speed (1600Mhz), was 800MHz before
  • The system is now way more stable and should boot for everyone with a decent SD card (no more black screen of death)
  • RetroArch has been updated to add menu widgets (fancy onscreen notifications)
  • Overclock profiles have been updated :
    • Renamed all profiles
    • Added more overclock profiles
    • Added underclock profiles
New cores
  • mupen64plus-next (N64 emulator)
    • The core is full speed, even on aarch64 thanks to the new dynarec
    • Includes the updated version of the GlideN renderer
  • picodrive (various Sega consoles)
    • The core replaces Genesis Plus GX (Game Gear support has been dropped)
  • Beetle PSX HW (PSX emulator with OpenGL and Vulkan renderer)
    • The core performs worse than PCSX ReARMed for now, even with Vulkan
  • reicast (Dreamcast emulator)
    • The core is full speed on all commercial games, no visual glitches
    • The OIT renderer works (better accuracy), speed is still good on 1x resolution
    • The core needs the Dreamcast BIOS files to be placed in /lakka/storage/system/DC
    • WinCE games are currently not supported - there is a WinCE version of the reicast core in the works but the aarch64 dynarec is too slow for the games to be playable (for now)
  • Yaba Sanshiro (Saturn emulator)
    • The core is full speed on all commercial games
    • Yabause and Kronos were also added but both perform worse than Yaba Sanshiro
  • theodore (Thomson MO/TO emulator)
Updated cores
  • Dolphin : Vulkan support
    • With Vulkan, Dolphin runs decently - some games are playable, some are full speed... see for yourself, try it and experiment with different games and settings!
  • PCSX ReARMed : Switch optimizations and CHD support
  • PPSSPP : doesn't crash anymore when closing content
Removed cores
  • mupen64plus
  • parallel-n64
  • Genesis Plus GX
  • Ishiiruka
    • It might come back once the core is updated with the (beta) Vulkan renderer
Credits
  • Kernel and drivers work: NVIDIA, switchroot team (especially ByLaws and langerhans)
  • Lakka Switch work: natinusala and plaidman
  • RetroArch, original Lakka distribution: libretro team
  • mupen64plus-next: Gillou and m4xw
  • PCSX ReARMed: Switch optimizations by m4xw, CHD support by aliaspider
  • Dolphin core: aliaspider
  • reicast core: flyinghead

The Lakka Switch website has been updated with the new version: https://lakka-switch.github.io/documentation/

Please note that you can't dual boot Ubuntu and Lakka Switch for now (it will always boot Ubuntu).

Thanks a lot man i got it working almost 100% full speed now. Btw I actually increased the dolphin cpu to 200% and runs much better but i dont know the implications of that

It lowers the FPS very very slightly, possibly your running different settings elsewhere or you have a slower SD card speed? My game runs at absolute 100% with 150, only occasional audio slowdown& from cutscenes.

Excellent and did you manage to get him to run and spray water at the same time ? This the only thing stopping me from playing it , otherwise it’s running indeed great

From what I understand in its current state using the analog triggers in mario sunshine or any other game is impossible until a different dolphin core is used. In the latest Dolphin builds a %Threshhold press is built into the emulator that is default set to 0.9(1 returning a full button press), considering joycons don't support analog triggers and as far as i know their aren't any 3rd party joycons with analog trigger support their are no alternatives . If you play on a keyboard/computer with normal dolphin you can combine 2 different button presses to get the effect, e.g hold L run and spray, hold L + R stop and shoot.

I can't exactly remember how... but there was a setting that toggles "advanced user settings". Once you enable that, you can go to Driver settings and change to Vulkan.
Got it, It is located in the Interface, from there you had to enable it to be able to go in the cores (It is OFF) Then the driver menu is visible. I was able to run 007 Night Fire (Gamecube) 60 frames most of the time!

That makes perfect sense many thanks for your research. So it seems we have to wait for pro controller support (or a new dolphin core) as I’m assuming it will work with that , as it works combining two buttons on the wii u pro controller

I’m misunderstanding both the pro controllers don’t have analogue support either , so I’ll just have to wait for a new dolphin core or some clever dude to enable 3rd party controller support . Many thanks everybody,

Both of these posts should be placed in the front post so they're easier to find.
I cannot edit that document, so for those who can:

Date: 5/27/19
First 7 of SN: XAW1004
Boot: Not initially. Follow quoted instructions below and it will boot.

So I managed to get it to work 2 different ways but both in the end what made the difference seems to be the partition table type (note that I am on Ubuntu).

- The easiest but longest is to write the L4T Ubuntu image on your card, deleting the ext4 partition, extending the fat32 partition, deleting all files on the fat32 partition and then copying lakka the same way you would usually do (do not forget hekate).

OR

- Download GParted, delete all existing partitions on your sd card then create a msdos partition table type, then create a fat32 partition.

For some reason by just doing that it worked on all my sd cards where it was not working previously! Hopefully it will help someone else!

I'll definitely give this a try. I'm starting up my Ubuntu virtual machine to give the first option a shot. If this works I'll be a happy camper.

Edit: It took a bit longer than I expected because I had some things to do first. But it did work. I have Lakka up and running and quite a few of my N64 games play better than they do in Retroarch for Horizon. Haven't tried a Gamecube game and I probably wont for now. I'm happy! Thanks!

Glad it works for others! Games especially n64 run so much better on this, goldeneye and perfect dark have almost no stuttering I was really happy it worked :)

So I've just discovered the joys of AutoRCM, and it looks like with some applications (like Horizon) doing a full shutdown only shuts down the system temporarily before going into RCM again. Can anyone confirm this *doesn't* happen for Lakka?

I've just done a proper shutdown via the menu and connected the dongle 5 mins later, and it didn't begin to autoload Lakka, but just want to confirm.

No support for USB-HDD.

Am I wrong that this would probably take usb hdds being read as an sd card? For Horizon emulators too.

If you have autoload set in TegraRCM and it doesn't autoload Lakka or Horizon you're not in RCM.

Unless you hold down the power button for 15 seconds you can *only* get back to RCM from Lakka though. Holding down power for 15 seconds should turn the Switch off without being in RCM. Being completely off and RCM look exactly the same (just a black screen) so you only know if you're in RCM if you can load a payload. So if you hold it for 15 seconds it's off then you can get back to RCM by holding power for 1-2 seconds, then send payload.

Vulcan works on every core for me so far that I've tried except Mupen64Plus-Next. I haven't tried Dolphin yet though.
When I place Vulkan as video controller and charge Zelda Majorask Mask, I get this message "failed to load Content".

Could you share your settings?

Another thing, in Speace Walker the interface does not show the letters

Drivers > Video > gl
Drivers > Audio > pulse
Drivers > Menu > ozone

Video > Aspect Ratio > 16:9
Video > Threaded Video > On
Video > Vertical Sync > On
Video > Vsync Swap Interval > 1
Video > Hard GPU Sync > On

Audio > Audio Latency > 80ms

CPU Overclock > Maximum Performance (1785Mhz)
GPU Overclock > Docked Stock (768Mhz)

Some games play better with GPU Overclock at Docked Stock +1.

For every other system except N64, it is identical except I swap to this:

Drivers > Video > vulkan

Because you do not have Vulkan ?, did not you say it served you?
