as the title says, could someone tell me how the games run on switch, i remember when i first tried retro which was many months ago, it would crash or have save issues and whatnot!

as for psx , i never tried it.

could someone tell me if they run fine now without any bugs etc.?

i currently use my vita for gba/psx (using gpsp kai and it usually works wonders, saves states are very very nice)
would be very cool if such thing existed on the switch.
though would be nice if my vita didnt crash on me (whenever i exit from a psx game, adrenaline is what crashes often for me, and both gpsp and psx emulation is within adrenaline so..)

yeah would be very nice if psx for instance runs stable on switch !! (would love to play BoF3 etc. on the switch)

do let me know please, thanks !

Once it's set up right, yeah very stable and works very well. Retroarch is the only way to go for PSX and also works just as well for GBA and SNES, tho there are also standalone emulators for the latter two that some people prefer.

Whatever you do, if you're going to emulate on your Switch, make sure your SD card is formatted as fat32 and not exfat.

yep im on fat32.
could you link me to standalone emulators please?
i like those where for instance if i want snes then i want snes emulator only.

not a mixed version!
i want gba/snes and psx!

(and oh im guessing eboots wont work with switch psx emulation? files must be in .iso format?)

Ok, what's the deal with exFAT vs FAT32? People over here keep pushing FAT32 like exFAT was made by the devil, but the cunts over at /hbg/ say exFAT is better. Obviously exFAT is a superior file system, the lack of a practical filesize limit alone makes it far better, but I still keep my switch on FAT32 because I install everything via USB. So yeah, what the hell is going on, this can't just be about file-systems and their characteristics can it?

Playstation emulation still runs at like 50% speed due to no dynarec core support yet. If you want to run full speed playstation you will need to overclock or wait for updates :P. SNES and GBA you will have no problems, you can actually underclock your switch for those and have the battery last much longer.

No need to be an ass about it.
I wasn't.

This is a site dedicated to discussing things like this.
And that was a site dedicated to explaining things like this.
This is not a discussion; this is asking to be fed information. I'm simply directing them to where they can find said info without repeating it myself.
You also are not the OP and thus do not have the right to speak on their behalf, so do not try and act as if you are.

Ok, what's the deal with exFAT vs FAT32?

Yay I get to use this.

Well ain't this like the tenth standalone discussion on a tired subject.

Nintendo's ExFAT implementation is still broken for homebrew.
You CAN format any card to FAT32 using either any Unix-like system, or a GUI program for Windows; it's not impossible to use on any card.
There is NOTHING you can do on ExFAT that FAT32 can't do; NSPs can be installed from another source directly to the system, and it plus XCIs can be split without issue.
Homebrew devs everywhere suggest explicitly NOT to use ExFAT.

You can be as careful as humanly possible: ExFAT WILL corrupt some files at some point. It won't be immediately noticeable even, because it happens anywhere in the filesystem without explicitly breaking the storage device itself. It can affect gallery photos/videos, homebrew files, and most prominently, official software that will refuse to boot without redownloading the title entirely.

Anyone who claims this isn't the case is either:
1) Willfully neglecting to acknowledge the truth,
2) Hopelessly ill-informed,
3) An SX OS user (which may as well fit into either category above),
4) Have yet to find a file that has been affected by the filesystem corruption (anecdotal at absolute best).

It doesn't matter what your card is. I have perfectly legitimate Sandisk cards that work elsewhere, but using on the Switch with ExFAT gets corrupted at some point when using homebrew even when taking all possible necessary precautionary measures to minimize these chances. Run on sentences aside, this is a given fact and you should NOT take anecdotal evidence of the contrary as proof of the opposite being true.

Can we not retread this tired discussion any more in the future, please?

Also relevant if you need to hear dipshits other than me repeat this info ad nauseam.

This is off-topic now, so let us move on back to the original discussion.

You really are a venomous shit, aren't you? I don't understand the passive aggressive attitude of the users here. It's like you don't want people to join and engage in the conversation. I may not be the OP, but I can see when someone is insulting for not checking a wiki that they probably didn't even know about.

If you really have that much of an issue with me that you just leave insulting comments without any additional commentary on how to improve my approach (i.e. criticism), then you're better off taking that up with me without wasting more of our time on public discussion forums.

I left a link with the information they desired provided, plus an added tidbit that would help them save space which wasn't listed in the docs (as of the writing). I fail to see how this is what you claim other than pure dislike of my being.

You really are a venomous shit, aren't you?
The same applies to you. So thank you for such insightful commentary.

On that note, is there anything provided you don't quite understand?

RetroArch is currently the best - and only - way of playing PS1, so you'd need some level of patience for the different interface of RA if you aren't already familiar with it.

I understand, I was also curious about your question. I'm tired of the attitude of some people on this site. Sorry for derailing your thread.
no biggie, it is okay, im usually chill when the 'criticism' is of that mild level XD
i didnt take it personal either, i actually went up to that link and read some of that stuff and found out what i needed.

so all is good.
now i just gotta fetch me that retroarch stuff.

yeah i honestly never liked retroarch much, i know it is fantastic has many emulators within it (called cores?) i never use it much, because its a hot mess, has many options and i had bugs when i used it (on my vita) thus i usually use adrenaline for emulation.

i will give it a go on the switch because i want to try some psx c:

Grab the latest nightly (the last one with a date appended to the file), extract the contents to the root of your card, put the listed BIOS from the docs above in /retroarch/cores/system, and be prepared to learn a new user interface.
Reference the RetroArch Switch thread in this subforum for more info.

Speaking as the individual who made the Vita thread in the first place and has used Switch RA for a year now, it's substantially more stable. Vita isn't necessarily a good representation of what the platform is good at...

yeah could be, honestly i get crashes with adrenaline at times and it sucks ass, so i am curious how things are with psx on the switch.
i will just use that boost performance thing i saw on youtube, seemed to run psx fine.
