Telltale Games' titles will soon be removed from GOG, Tales from the Borderlands delisted on Steam

Almost a year has passed since the tragic announcement of Telltale Games closing its doors for good. Even after eight months, the studio's closure is still having an impact on the industry, specifically digital storefronts, in this case, as GOG has informed its users that any Telltale titles that haven't already been delisted will soon be. On May 27th, anything that Telltale developed will no longer be available to purchase on GOG. Following a quiet delisting of Tales from the Borderlands today on Steam, this may also be the case for Valve's storefront as well. No mention has been made towards digital availability on consoles yet. The following titles will be affected:
  • The Wolf Among Us
  • Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Hector: Badge of Carnage
  • Batman: A Telltale Game Series
  • Sam and Max: Save the World
  • Same and Max: Beyond Time and Space
  • Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People
  • Puzzle Agent 1 and 2
As is normally the case with delisted titles, if you've already purchased them you'll still be able to download them from your library.

That's weird, why are finished games being pulled? Never seen a company go bankrupt outside of Nier's dev (but it was a physical release), so never heard of games being pulled just cuz.

Probably licensing

If I had to guess they where on a year to year contract or something similar to hold these rights and of course can't keep up with it anymore due to being closed down

@Hells Malice almost all of this games are licensed, and if a studio go bankrupt, then they lost license. So they don't have rights to sell games based on this licenses.

Why did this company die off in the first place?

Bad management. And when management changed (on better), they couldn't secure enough funds (by finding sponsors) before going bankrupt.

Good move.. shouldn't have r*ped the Monkey Island series. The rest of their games sucked anyway..
I've not pld them but tales of monkey Island got more great reviews than bad so you should explain why its shit and all of the telltale games I've pld they do what they are ment to do just tell a story and you making decisions based on what you think is right and not focus on so much gameplay and they tell it well

huh interesting, until another company bought the license/trademark/whatsover, they are effectively abandonwares then?
I don't know the particulars of this case, and gaming industry trends in general are as byzantine as any film or TV thing, but it is an odd move. I would have thought the bankruptcy agent/court/whatever would have kept any incoming cash flows for a product that is endlessly replicated like a game with fairly minimal support costs. If it was that the new owners of the IP just had to sort something out (maybe they were going to another distributor) then hopefully it would have been mentioned along with this.

I would wonder if they were under some kind of agreement for an up front sum to keep/renew rights (all those in the OP are external IPs) and it ran out, or that there was some kind of bankruptcy provision in their standard contract.
